About the Property
Two bedroom, an office, and two bath house on a vineyard in the Red Mountain AVA
Tastefully decorated, very clean, and comfortable. A great place to setback and let go with a superb glass of wine from a stone’s throw away. Fantastic views whichever way you look.
Whether you are there for a wine event or just to get away for a relaxing weekend, you will find everything you need for a comfortable stay. The beds are plush and the kitchen is fully equipped. Just bring a change of clothes and some groceries and you will be all set to enjoy a vineyard weekend, wine tasting, sitting on the porch and watching the grapes grow.
It has been said that there is nowhere to stay on Red Mountain, but for years people have stayed there enjoying hot afternoons, vineyard dinners on the porch and fine wines late into the evening. Until recently though, this lifestyle has been available to a limited few. However, now The Thurtle B makes it possible for anyone to enjoy the allure of Red Mountain.

Located amongst the vineyards in the heart of Red Mountain AVA where it rains less than six inches a year. Visit the place where some of Washington's best wines start out and taste some truly fine wines from any of the tasting rooms nearby.
Year Purchased: 2006
About the owner: Once upon a time, a sailor, carpenter and builder met an interior designer and architictural draftsperson. They fell in love, got married and bought a place in wine country. A few years later they planted a vineyard. As the vines started to grow, so did their appreciation of the land and the number of friends they met there.
Why the Owner Chose Benton City, WA, USA:
It's about the lifestyle. Why go all the way to wine country and not stay in an premier AVA? Why stay in an AVA and not stay on a vineyard? Outside, from the back deck or covered front porch, take in the views of Horse Heaven Hills, Mt. Adams, Ceil de Cheval, Col Solare, and Red Mountain. Step inside to find a fully functional kitchen, and comfortable living spaces complete with stereo, DVD player, Sirius radio, Wifi, and flat screen TV. Throw something on the gas grill and in just minutes have dinner on the front porch with vineyard views enjoying a delicious Red Mountain wine. Later, on the back deck, enjoy the sun setting over Ceil de Cheval vineyard while you wait for the skies to darken and the stars to come out. The bedrooms were made for sleeping-in late, quiet, with blackout shades, soft sheets, and very comfortable beds. But maybe the mornings are better spent sipping coffee on the front porch in the soft, warm sunlight balanced by the cool morning air. As the day heats up, head out on an exciting day trip. Prosser is less than 20 minutes away and the Columbia River is less than 20 minutes in the other direction. For a little longer drive, the Horse Heaven Hills, Waitsburg and Walla Walla are barely more than an hour away. If the morning has gotten away from you, maybe you’ve stayed too long on the porch, or you don’t feel like driving much, play locally and visit some of the many Red Mountain wineries, all just a few miles away. However, you may want to save your trip to Col Solare winery for Saturday evening when they are open late. That's where you can sit out on their patio, over look all of Red Mountain’s vineyards, drink world class wine and enjoy the sunset, all the time knowing your cozy bed is just down the hill.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
It's the little things that loom big in hindsight. Watching the mother Kestrel hawk teaching the babies to fly. Enjoying the unbelievable taste of a vine ripe melon or fruit right off the tree. Spying the floppy eared jack rabbits in the vineyard's long shadows of the evening. Time seems to wait while friends share wine and food on the porch. The moments aren't measured as the warm evening fades into the refreshing night. Stay under the stars or stumble off to bed, it doesn't really matter. Red Mountain is a special place with world class vineyards, wine event weekends and friendly people. Every wine lover should experience a vineyard because that is where the flavor begins. Maybe that's why wine tastes better in the vineyard. Come enjoy the comforts of home at The Thurtle B and see for yourself. It is much more than just a comfortable place to stay.
