Overview

About the property

Mountain views. 2 bedrooms and 1 sleeping loft, 2 1/2 bath

'Unique' inadequately describes this incredible house. Who expects a curvy wall down a window-lined hall? The master bedroom has its own bathroom, stove and tree! What could be more fun? The ceiling soars to windows that let in the morning light and provide solar heat throughout the day. The second bedroom also has a comfortable queen bed. Upstairs, the loft has a single over full bunk bed and 2 twin beds. The kitchen is fully equipped and the dining table seats 6. A beautiful kiva highlights the living room and you'll enjoy sitting watching either the fire inside or the mountains and the birds outside. Reading is a pleasure in the round room off the main living area. The house has high speed wireless internet. Propane stoves, electric heaters and a wood-burning kiva fireplace keep you toasty. A large wall provides outdoor privacy as you eat meals, doze, read, relax or use the fire pit on the patio. Walk down the bank to the bridge over the river and watch the water flow. Stargazing is unbelievable in the clear mountain air. You'll be stunned by the abundance and clarity of the stars. This home is perfectly located for day trips to Santa Fe, Georgia O'Keefe's Ghost Ranch, Ojo Caliente (hot springs--wonderful!) Taos Pueblo, and innumerable hiking trails. Need additional space or a smaller rental? Casita sleeps 4, VRBO #508477

About Beverly Rains

Native Oklahomans, we live and work in Tulsa. We manage real estate and provide legal services to the oil and gas industry. We reared 5 children, 2 of whom still live in Oklahoma.

Beverly Rains purchased this house in 2010

Why Beverly Rains chose New Mexico

As kids going on vacations with our families, we each fell in love with New Mexico. We even spent our honeymoon in Santa Fe. 5 kids and 29 years later we spent 2 weeks (alone!) exploring the Taos area. In the most brilliant idea we've ever had, we decided to look for a second home here. We were sold on this property before we even stepped inside! The location is beautiful with mountains close and our very own river running past. The air smells wonderful! We absolutely love this house. It is more fun than any house we've ever been in. It is more relaxing and peaceful than any place we've ever been.

What makes this house unique

Location, location, location. You are close to Taos, yet you feel like you are off in the mountains alone.

Great place to stay, close to Taos and Carson National Forest.

Casa Santos is a wonderful place to stay. The property is beautiful and well maintained. The property owner is very easy to work with and has a well stocked home with everything you would need for a long weekend or an extended stay.

Incredible outdoor space

  • 5 of 5

Really nice home close to town but still in the mountains. The outdoor space was amazing. Right on the river so you hear it while having coffee or wine on the Patio's. Beautifully decorated home and the kitchen has everything you will need to make your meals.

We loved this unique and beautiful New Mexico home.

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful stay in this unique home, which greatly enhanced our New Mexico experience. It is just a really cool place. It had everything we needed and we enjoyed the building design, artwork, and decor very much. But the outdoor space was our favorite part - spacious and private with a great fire pit, it was perfect for us. The puzzles and games were a really fun bonus, too. The owners were extremely helpful and responded promptly to our questions with thoughtful answers. We'll be back.

great location and view

  • 5 of 5

We met another family in Taos and shared this property. Perfect location for the teenagers to go rafting and floating on the Rio Grande. Close to restaurants and groceries but still felt out in the mountains. Kitchen was stocked. The hot tub was nice after a day of outdoor adventure. Bring a jacket and have your morning coffee on the patio. Make sure you bring your own drinking water.

Owner's Response: We love pinon coffee on the patio in the mornings and a drink outside at night! We do encourage our guests to always take plenty of water with them on their hikes or visits into town--Taos is very dry! While our well water has a higher mineral content than city water, it is perfectly safe to drink. We have a Brita filter available for our guests who prefer filtered water. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay!

Great House w/ Nice Outdoor Space

  • 5 of 5

The house was great. It has plenty of room with a big loft and very nice furnishings. The kitchen is also well equipped. We had a great weekend skiing and this home is very convenient to Sipapu. It also works well with the casita if you have a larger party that includes multiple families. The outdoor space is also great for star gazing with a nice fire pit. We look forward to staying here again in the future.

This unique home is perfectly located for mountain activities. Forest roads give easy access to hiking and biking trails in the summer. In the winter, you can enjoy cross country skiing, sledding and snowshoeing or ski at Sipapu (20 min drive), Taos Ski Valley(45 min drive) or Angel Fire(45 min drive). The house is 10 minutes from the intersection of HWY 518 and HWY 68 so it is an easy drive into either Taos or Ranchos de Taos for shopping and sightseeing. You'll enjoy exploring art galleries, shops, museums and restaurants. The Rio Grande Gorge Bridge offers a bird's eye view of the river far below--but hold the railing if you are afraid of heights! Local companies offer hot air balloon rides and rafting trips along the Rio Grande. Plan on visiting the Taos Pueblo, a World Heritage Site. Santos house is located on the scenic high road between Santa Fe and Taos. You will be thrilled by the magnificent vistas unfolding before you as you take this drive. You'll want to stop at the historic adobe churches along the way and you must stop to visit the Sanctuario de Chimayo in Chimayo. Chimayo is also a perfect stop for lunch at the Ranchos de Chimayo Restaurante. When you return to the house after a day full of fun, you can relax on the patio with your favorite beverage and take in the beautiful scenery and fresh air. The little river running behind the house gives you the opportunity to fish or simply sit on the bridge and watch the water flow. Relaxation and peace may be the most wonderful opportunities this home offers.
