A romantic getaway or a quiet retreat while visiting family. Child friendly.
A walk-in, daylight basement with its own two entrances, a beautiful kitchen with Mexican tiles, and all the small and large appliances you could desire. There are six windows so the apartment is sunny and bright. The shaded patio overlooks a professionally landscaped garden with flowers and fruit trees. There is a separate bedroom with a queen-sized bed and its own entrance. Part of the living room can be closed off to create a second bedroom. This has a love seat that makes into a bed and a day bed, both of which my adults guests have found to be comfortable. The bathroom has a walk in shower with no barrier. There are no stairs to climb either to enter or use the apartment. You have access to the main floor which has a deck with a stunning view of Puget Sound. Within an easy walk are tennis courts, a playground used by neighborhood families, and Richmond Beach Park with access to the Sound. Both parks have gorgeous views of the Sound. Seattle is an easy drive away. Some guests have used the buses and found them to be convenient. The bus stop is only a couple of blocks away. There are good restaurants within a walking distance as well as a library. Internet access, Hulu, Amazon Prime and Netflix are included. For children I have a high chair, a pack and play, soft toys, books, and many other toys.
Here are some quotes from my guests.
Laura's "beach house" - as my kids called it - was perfectly situated for us. While a bit of a drive from the freeway exits, Richmond Beach is so pretty and private. Laura's place is a lovely daylight basement apartment with a great view of Puget Sound and 4 minutes drive to the Beach. There is a great playground up the street at the library and another at the beach. Streetsaria Pizzaria nearby was a fun dinner out nearby but otherwise we happily prepared all our meals in the well equipped kitchen. Laura's collection of books, China, music boxes, and linens was interesting in every way. We appreciated the extras like having milk, bread and butter awaiting us and earl Grey tea! Thanks so much.
if you want to feel like at home and hotel as well, staying with Laura will satisfy both your goal. the house is delicate where you will have a great seaview. the location is convenient for the public transit and walkable distance to saltwater park which is the best thing i like to do with my kids. and there are lots of choices for food like pizza. thai food and mexican and Japanese sushi. for shopping, you will find fred mayer, QFC, mercy etc. Laura is a wonderful lady who is warm and generous and thoughtful. her house will be my home forever as i come to seattle again.
Had an absolutely wonderful stay! The apartment was beautiful and so cozy! From the gorgeous linens and decorative dishes, each room had such unique little touches! Beds were all so comfortable and perfect after a long day of exploring. The family members I was with haven't stopped talking about how great of a place this was to stay! Would highly recommend! Nice, quiet neighborhood and great views! Easy drive to Seattle as well! Enjoyed the calmness of being out of the city but still having easy access. Laura was very accommodating for our late arrival as well! Thanks again! Hope to be back sometime soon!

About Laura Connor
I am a mostly retired attorney (wills, probate, trusts). I was a caregiver for over a decade for my husband who developed Alzheimer's. I sold our floating home after 30 years there and find I love the quiet although I never thought I would live away from the city. After his diagnosis we traveled in Europe exchanging our home which allowed us to spend months at a time in Europe. After he was too ill to travel I hosted couch surfers. I have rented vacation properties in Europe, New York and other cities so I know what a traveler needs.
Laura Connor purchased this Apartment in 2010
Why Laura Connor chose Richmond Beach
I chose this property because my brother, his Chinese wife and stepson were going to live with me and we needed a house in a good school district. I liked this house because it had the feel of a city house, a great view and lots of room for the four of us, including the ADU basement where I lived while my brother's family shared the house and which is where you would stay.
What makes this Apartment unique
I spent a long time remodeling this house and it doesn't look like any other house. Each room is unique. It is comfortable and beautiful at the same time. The patio outside the apartment has a beautiful view of the garden. I had it planted with all white flowers because we have such long twilights in the summer and the white glows in the fading light. My guests say that the white gives the garden a peaceful feel. My guests who are staying here now eat most of their meals on the patio and spend hours there reading and enjoying the peace. I encourage my guests to use the main floor deck which has a great view of the Sound.

Great Place to Stay!
My husband and I travel to Seattle frequently to visit family in the area. We decided to try a different place to stay than where we usually do. This cozy basement apartment did not disappoint. It is located in the quiet neighborhood of Richmond Beach with fantastic views of the sound and Olympia Mountains. We especially liked our own private entrance, off-road parking, and prettily decorated and clean apartment. I would recommend staying here while in Seattle. Laura is very easy to work with and very accommodating.
Apartment with character
We enjoyed the Richmond Beach apartment. It is a little out of the way, but easy to get to. Parking is easy. There are antiques mixed in with modern touches. It is quiet. The bed was very comfortable and we enjoyed the walk-in shower. Laura is very friendly and makes you feel at home. We enjoyed using her lovely dishes for some special dinners with family. The pictures on the website are accurate. It is not large, but comfortable. It was very clean. She has a huge collection of books which you are encouraged to use. It was fun just browsing all the titles.
Comfort, Tranquility, Great Price and Location all here at Laura's Cottage
This was a great experience and we will be back. The cottage was just perfect. The outdoor flower gardens were a big bonus. There was every appliance in the kitchen you would want and starter groceries when we arrived late at night. It was great to have many shelves of books to browse. I personally enjoyed playing on her baby grand piano and eating her yummy baking. On three days we walked to Edmonds and the route was beautiful. The bed was very comfortable with linen sheets. There wasn't anything we didn't like. Laura was the perfect hostess and the cottage was a lovely get away.
Lovely, roomy, quiet apartment
Lots of care has gone into making this apartment charming and comfortable. Laura had delicious organic bread, real butter, and a generous selection of fruit waiting for me when I arrived. Soft, warm white bathrobes hung in the closet. Pure linen sheets and a variety of pillows contributed to the comfy bed. Fluffy towels were in the bathroom. The kitchen was stocked with every appliance you could want, as well as beautiful dishes and flatware. Everything was very clean and neat.
There's lots of room, including a lovely patio overlooking a large, well-tended garden. The neighborhood is residential and very quiet. I was only there a few days, visiting a friend, so I did not get out and explore the area, but it seemed very nice and safe. I chose not to mingle with the residents of the house upstairs, but was invited to if I wished; and given my privacy when I did not.
I appreciated also Laura's commitment to environmental considerations.
Will definitely check into staying at Laura's Peaceful Cottage the next time I visit Seattle.
