About Gregg Kabacinski
We have owned our cottage on Big Bear Lake for 28 years. Our family has grown over the years, so we purchased the cottage next door for extra room for family reunions. We would be very pleased to host your family and friends in our lakefront guest cottage which has its own dock, beach, fire pit, and 150 feet of private lake frontage.
Gregg Kabacinski purchased this Cottage in 2012
Why Gregg Kabacinski chose Charlton
Big Bear Lake has a real 'up north' feel, surrounded by woods and quiet. Our 435 acre lake is crystal clear with great swimming, water skiing, boating and fishing. You will be amazed at the bald eagles and loons that frequent our lake. The loons often provide a serenade, along with the brilliance of the stars as you sit around a campfire on the beach. Oh, and don't get me going on the fishing (smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, walleye, northern pike and panfish - and I've got the pictures to prove it)!!
What makes this Cottage unique
Our lakefront is the best, providing full sun on the beach all day long, and shade in the woods surrounding the cottage. Our location on the south side of the lake provides refreshing breezes and beautiful sunsets. We have 5 acres of private woods behind the cottage for children to explore, gather campfire wood, and pick blueberries. For our more adventurous guests there are thousands of acres of federal and state forests, and numerous rivers, within minutes of our cottage. The owner will provide maps and guidance upon request, or if you prefer he will share his 30 plus years of outdoors experience with a fully guided trip for spring turkey hunting, spring morel picking, and fall bird hunting for grouse and woodcock with his well trained Brittany.

If your ideal vacation spot involves filling up toilet tanks with bathwater, or completing being left without running water, this is the cottage for you!
This review leaves out a number of mitigating facts which the owner would like to share with prospective renters:
There is nothing deficient with the plumbing. In fact, it was recently installed by a "master" plumber along with a new hot water tank, furnace and air conditioner (to which several previous reviews have commented very positively). The Cottage was without water for one day because pipes froze following an extended period of severe freezing temperatures down to 20 degrees BELOW ZERO (29 below zero with wind chill).
Immediately upon being notified of the problem, the owner spent the next several hours contacting a number of plumbers in the area until reaching one who was available for an emergency service call on New Years weekend. An auxiliary heater was placed in the area of the frozen pipes and water was restored within a days time. Throughout this process the owner followed up regularly with the renters to resolve the problem.
Last, but not least, the owner offered the renter/reviewer several options as follows to deal with the hand Mother Nature dealt:
(1) a COMPLETE REFUND was offered along with referrals to nearby lodging;
(2) continue using the cottage while the water was being restored, and go next door to the owner's home for showers and toilet as needed; or
(3) move the rental party next door to the owner's home for the remaining day of their stay (a free upgrade).
It is noteworthy that the rental party elected option 2, and the owner gave the renter/reviewer the above full use of his home while the owner was away for the weekend.
Exactly what we wanted!
The cabin and location were perfect. Clean, quiet with a beautiful view. We will go back again.
This is a wonderful cottage on Big Bear Lake. The cottage is all knotty pine, nicely decorated, well stocked and very clean. The owner Gregg is very nice and even though out of the country at the time of our stay he was very attentive. He made sure we had everything we needed. We used the boat that was available to rent which was handy. The boat is in great condition. The lake and the view was beautiful. I wound highly recommend and will definitely stay here again. Thank you Gregg for allowing others to enjoy.
Cottage Big Bear Lake
Excellent 2 weeks were spent in this quaint cottage on beautiful Big Bear Lake. Our only complaint was the weather, but that's Michigan! Location is great for outings to the Mackinaw City or the UP. Have reserved time for summer of 2018!
Me and my family had a great time. Very nice set-up.
amazing location for a vacation
We found this vacation rental to be everything the advertisement and pictures indicated...and more !!! The place was very neat, tidy and had all the amenities we needed. The AC proved very helpful on a warm, muggy, summer night. The owner could not have been more accommodating and eager for us to have a nice vacation. We really enjoyed the rental of his Sea Nymph, which made fishing and those sunset evenings fun. But, the fishing was best right off the dock! The water so crystal clear you could see the fish as they were biting the hook. The sandy bottom made it a lovely lake for swimming as well. Certainly one of our best family vacations with our adult children. Thanks so much for the wonderful vacation.
