About Matilde Alberny

Greetings! We are Matilde and Gustavo, both visual artists. We came in 1999 to #NewOrleans for an exhibit of Gustavo and barely few hours later fell irrevocably in #love with the city.

Gustavo is a well-known artist and regularly shows abroad and other cities of the United States. His work (and mine) are permanently on display at Kezic Gallery in the #FrenchQuarter. You might want to organize a visit to Gustavo’s art studio in the Bywater.

We moved to New Orleans where we found a perfect mélange of village and city life with great entertainment. We are foodies, finding wonderful dining experiences in New Orleans is easy and are plentiful. We stroll while sipping our drinks (it’s “legal” here) and enjoy our architectural treasures in the afternoon, meet friends or chase fabulous #music at the many venues and festivals around the city. And most of it, if not all can be done walking!

We are owners and managers of our property. We like to personally greet our visitors if possible. We are attentive to all of our guests needs and inquiries but understand that we are not part of the planned vacation. We are available if needed.

Matilde Alberny purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Matilde Alberny chose Central City/Garden District

In the Lower Garden District we found the perfect mélange of village, rural laissez faire and city life and entertainment. A walk in the afternoon by Magazine Street or hearing the fountain of the Coliseum Square at night is enough to fall in love over and over again. We are in the middle of the city, in our own little gorgeous oasis

What makes this cottage unique

Enjoying the peace of this cottage is a luxury. Being in the middle to all #NewOrleans is unique.

VRBO Bear stayed here

Dec 5, 2017

The VRBO Bear and friends enjoyed staying at this cottage during a November escape to New Orleans. The cottage is situated in the fragrant and historic garden district within walking distance of amazing cafés and restaurants. Nestled away from the hustle and bustle of the French Quarter, one can still benefit from those areas by taking a short drive or riding the street car (approximately 1.5 miles). Our daily routine was spent waking up with the fragrant smells of the garden district and the wonderful garden at the cottage. We took a short walk to nearby cafés to enjoy the tastes and flavors of the city. Because the cottage is situated in the heart of the city, we were able to enjoy the benefits of the nearby street car with all of its rich history and convenience. We would make frequent stops at the cottage throughout the day as we enjoyed art galleries, restaurants, and live music. It was nice to take a break from daily activities and enjoy reading in the shared patio area. Our hosts were beyond splendid. Local artists in their own right, they’ve decorated the cottage with their own inspiring art. Matilde' and Gustavo also recommended local places to visit and things to do. This cottage really just exemplifies everything that is great about New Orleans. We felt right at home in this wonderful place. We were sad to leave. However, we know that we will be back soon! Thank you Matilde and Gustavo!

Comfortable studio apartment just a block off Magazine Street

  • 5 of 5

Went to NOLA for my husband's birthday, looking for a relaxing weekend. Just steps from Magazine Street where you can find a wide variety of shops and restaurants within easy walking distance. St Charles Street trolley is a few blocks away, and an Uber to the French Quarter was just under $7. Quiet, safe neighborhood. The studio apartment is in the back yard, and is surrounded with lush greenery and patio seating, perfect for morning coffee or evening cocktails. Owners were very friendly and welcoming, but not obtrusive. Found parking close but most spaces were full during our stay. Will definitely try to stay here on our next trip.

We loved staying at Matilde's guest house. We stayed for 5 nights in May. The accomodations were very comfortable and private. Matilde and Gustavo were wonderful hosts. We did mot see much of them but definitely felt we could contact them with any questions. We would definitely stay again.

Fabulous Rental

  • 5 of 5

This rental is perfect for a New Orleans weekend getaway. My husband and I travel frequently to New Orleans to visit our daughter. We have stayed in many hotels as well as rental properties and we couldn't have been more pleased with our choice this time! Matilde and Gustavo were so warm and welcoming throughout the entire weekend. The location is perfect for those who are visiting for the weekend or enjoying a longer stay. We were able to walk to neighboring Magazine Street for food and shopping. It is also within a few blocks of St. Charles if you want to take the streetcar either to the French Quarter or Uptown. We had a car for the weekend and parking was easily available on the street in front of their house. We would highly recommend this property to anyone traveling to New Orleans!
