About the property

2 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom 4 Sleeps Gorgeous Mountain Views

We are no longer taking stays of less than one month.

Rest your mind and spirit as you take in the stunning panoramic views of the Santa Lucia mountains. Wake up nestled among oaks and pines in an elegant and quiet Carmel Valley neighborhood, just minutes to Carmel Valley Village's fine restaurants, many wine tasting rooms and the beautiful hikes and trails in Garland Ranch Regional Park.

The sunny retreat is free of the coastal fog, yet it's an easy and beautiful drive to all the attractions in Monterey, Carmel, Pebble Beach and Pacific Grove, including our white pristine beaches, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, world class golf, and Carmel-by-the-Sea's many shops.

Upon your arrival you will find a complimentary treat from a local spot such as Carmel Valley’s own Earthbound Farm Stand. Area information and maps are available to reference.

This Mission Style home features a vaulted wood beamed ceiling, terracotta tile, and an open floor plan comprising the living, dining and kitchen areas.

We have turned the fireplace room into a romantic bedroom, with a very comfortable queen bed (PLEASE NOTE this room has an opening to the main living area, with an optional screen for some privacy). Here you can relax with a good book and get comfy in front of the wood burning fireplace. The small second bedroom has a trundle bed that is normally set up to be two twin beds.

There are several outdoor areas where you can relax into serenity: a hammock space, outdoor chaise lounge chairs and adirondack chairs on the back patio, and an outdoor claw foot bath with stunning views.

The Casita Lucia is a special, unique and very lovely setting for a romantic getaway, a retreat for a small family, or a few close friends. The owners live a few miles up the road and are available to assist you at any time. Enjoy true privacy and peace.

About Ruth and Steve

We have been Carmel Valley residents for over 25 years. Transplanted East coasters, Ruth from New York City, and Steve from Ottawa, Canada, we are grateful each day for the beauty, tranquility--and the weather of Carmel Valley! We really enjoy being able to introduce others to the area and to this property. We live a few miles down the road (not right next door like most cottages) and are happy to assist you with anything that you need. Our daughter also enjoys helping out too. Looking forward to hearing from you and we hope you enjoy your stay.

Why Ruth and Steve chose Central Coast

We have designed this property as place to get away to experience true that seems to elude a lot of us in the modern day. You can lie on the double hammock and listen to the sounds of nature, or soak in the clawfoot tub, at night the stargazing is dreamy. There is wifi and Cable TV if you need it, but there is also simplicity of a gentle breeze, natural beauty and privacy.

What makes this cottage unique

More about CARMEL VALLEY: Considered one of the most beautiful destinations, the drive itself along Carmel Valley Road is meditative and calming. Increasingly referred to as 'Little Napa' (yet more quaint and without the traffic), Carmel Valley Village is home to over a dozen wine tasting rooms and vineyards, as well as wonderful restaurants with fine dining. It also boasts world class golf courses and spas (Bernardus Lodge, Carmel Valley Ranch Resort, Quail Lodge and the new, The Refuge). Strollers through this quaint town can enjoy it’s antique shopping, and walkers, hikers and horseback riders love the trails and vistas at Garland Regional Park).

This cottage is a few minutes from Carmel Valley Village. Driving on beautiful Carmel Valley Road it's a 14 to 20 mile drive to get to Carmel and all the attractions in Monterey.

After day trips and adventures (or just staying close to home), the Casita is a tranquil retreat in a quiet area (we ask our guests please no outside parties or loud fiestas after 10pm).

You can see the vineyards on your way to one of the Valley's terrific restaurants: try Cafe Rustica, Corkscrew, Wils Fargo, Taste, or Wild Goose for freshly brewed coffee and baked treats. Or stay home and prepare a great dinner at the Casita while taking in the gorgeous views.

Beautiful peaceful environment well beyond coastal fog, wonderful outdoor spaces

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with my three year old son and my mother who has had a stroke so needs to be careful with her balance. It was wonderful having a place that was so beautiful to spend time in, rather than being just a place to eat and sleep. We ate our breakfast at the glass table just outside the front door and when we were quiet, the green humming birds would come to drink at the fountain - such a treat! We enjoyed afternoons in the garden looking down the valley and sometimes ate supper out there. My son loved having a bath outside. With patios on three sides, there was usually sun and shade available somewhere and the nice clear-topped fence gave us a view without too much wind. The only nearby house was only visible from the driveway - it feels very private and peaceful, with no-one overlooking the garden. Steve was incredibly helpful and kind - he lent my mother a shower chair for her stay and installed a secure handle on the bathroom wall so that she wouldn't be worried about slipping on the tiles getting out of the shower. The kitchen was equipped for us to cook all our meals, picking up our groceries either at the little grocery store in the village or at the big Safeways in mid-valley. We drove down the coast to Big Sur, spent a day at Carmel beach, hiked around Garland Park, walked along the Carmel River from Paso Hondo and visited the village library and playground. There were a few DVDs, books and music in the living room - it was nice to have something to read in the hammock! The place was more beautiful than we expected, and peaceful. It was helpful with a small child that there were gates on the side and back yards. We only had two challenges which may not bother most people, but I mention in case it's useful: 1. the driveway is a bit tricky the way it turns sharply off a bend in the road. If you know your car, it's fine and I got the hang of it even with our massive rental van, but my mother wasn't comfortable inviting her friends to visit - I was sad not to be able to share the amazing views and humming birds with them, although I think they could have managed by just parking at the start of the driveway 2. The bedroom with twin beds was a bit too bright in the evening for my 3 yo son to easily go to sleep in. The nice big windows faced the setting sun so even with the blinds closed, it was still quite light in the room. Overall the house, location and Steve's care for us were above expectations. Highly recommend!

Just lovely! Beautiful location. Even better than expected!

My husband and I absolutely adored this place. We stayed from April 2nd thru the 8th. We had an amazing time in Carmel Valley hiking Garland Ranch and wine tasting in the Village. Also checked out Big Sur and Monterey along with Carmel by the Sea. The home is cozy and offers everything you need. The fireplace in the bedroom was a huge plus on those chilly nights. We were traveling from New Hampshire and really enjoyed our stay. I would recommend this spot for sure!

Our return trip to the Casita was wonderful. Even though the weather didn't cooperate, we still enjoyed the beautiful location and amenities in Carmel Valley. We hope to return next year.

We thorough enjoyed our stay. The house was perfect for the two of us and when the weather is fine it doubles in size! I did find the kitchen a bit under furnished for someone who likes to cook and would prefer fewer cupboard doors to contend with but that is personal taste. All in all we had a lovely time. Ruth and Steve were terrific landlords.

Amazing Retreat

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I wanted a spot in Carmel Valley for a winter getaway. We live in Chicago, and January is usually cold and dreary. We hoped to find temperate climate, beautiful scenery, and outdoor activities. We couldn't be more pleased. The Casita is located in a lovely neighborhood where you're nestled on a hillside with breathtaking views of the valley. Our favorite time of day was sunset in the backyard with our wine and snacks. It was always easy to cook at home, but our favorite restaurants were in the village which is a short drive away. The outdoor tub was useful on warm nights and the stars were magnificent! We enjoyed the cool nights with the fireplace in our bedroom. We love to hike and side trips to Big Sur, Point Lobos, Santa Cruz, Pinnacles National Park, Asilomar, and Garland Ranch County Park were wonderful! We hope to return next year.

The casita was everything it was advertised as, and more. So close to everything...Carmel by the sea for excellent shopping and dining, the beautiful 17 mile drive, and the amazing big sur coastline. Carmel valley's exquisite wine tasting and dining, and the most dog friendly area you could imagine. My pup and I went everywhere together, and were welcomed everywhere (except the parks...sadly no dogs allowed in national parks), but we made up for that at garland ranch, where she romped around freely, as well as Carmel beach!! The casita was very comfortable, with all the comforts of home. It actually became my home away from home. The views were spectacular, and the casita very cozy. Ruth and Steve were so easy to work all flowed so smoothly. I would recommend the casita to anyone wanting an amazing getaway...away from it all, but also very close to it all. You can have exactly the vacation you desire, no matter what it is. I would go back in a heartbeat, as would my pup Chloe. Actually, the first time ever she did not want to get in the car was when it was all packed up to go...she did not want to leave the casita, and I understood perfectly!! Definitely a 5 star retreat!
