About Hana Thompson
I am a Keiki O Ka Aina, translated as a child of this land as my ancestories migrated here from the South Pacific centries ago and became the first native people. I have a history with this unimaginably beautiful site as my Grandfather and Great grandfather before him fished here. The feeling of PARADISE is ohana(family)beauty, music and warmth. You will almost be able to hear the sounds of my Hawaiian trio, KUALOA (the name for this area) as we play music by the sea. You will relax, be refreshed and feel you belong here and never want to leave. Coming back will feel like coming home... E Komo Mai (Welcome)
Hana Thompson purchased this House in 2005
Why Hana Thompson chose Ka'a'awa
I was driving around the island with visitors and we spotted a 'For Sale' sign on the beach. ...ONE STEP on the sand and we were awestruck by the incredible beauty of KUALOA! The sacred legend of these mountains... Hawaiian warriors always tip their paddles as they go by KUALOA as this is where their great chiefs (Ali'i) are buried. THIS IS THE PLACE, PARADISE!
What makes this House unique
PARADISE is located almost exactly in the center of the island, and although you are close to stores, restaurants, Kaneohe town and all the creature comforts, you are across the street from Kualoa Ranch, a 4,000 acre working cattle and excursion ranch. K'a'a'awa is 'being in the country' for 'locals' because it has that special relaxed Hawaiian feeling. You can easily reach almost anywhere on the island from PARADISE as it is about halfway between the North Shore and Waikiki. Guests say that they have to force themselves to get out and see the sights because nothing compares to their experience in PARADISE!

Beautiful Family Staycation
As a family of five (kids under 7), we were very comfortable in this home. The views were breathtaking: the ocean sunrises and the ko’olau mountains! The yard space was great for the kids and we all enjoyed fishing and diving all day long! The WARM outdoor shower was HUGE for us! One of our highlights for the house! There’s nothing like going for a morning swim, rinsing off in a warm shower under the ko’olaus and having a cup of coffee to start your day!
As for the house...the kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. Pots, pans, cutlery, rice pot, etc...we moved the kitchen table closer to the door so we could eat “alfresco” and it was perfect!
The beds were very comfortable! With the ocean breeze, the bedroom was VERY COOL. The only downside for us was the noise from the street. With the house being on a very busy highway, it was very difficult to sleep with the loud noise coming from cars going by throughout the night. We tried to close the windows in the kitchen/dining so that my kids could sleep better on the bed in the living room, but then it got extremely hot. Since the back door must be closed for security purposes, there isn’t much breeze that can come through. A better fan in the living room would be great...or even an AC unit that might be able to drown out the sounds from the road. Also, the morning sun is extreme, so some curtains along the large sliding back door would be great...also for some security at night - it was a bit uneasy - a feeling like we were being watched - very exposed - since Home is located right next to a public access where locals fish - sometimes all night long.
The bathroom was clean well stocked with towels and loved the option of being able to do laundry!
Overall we were VERY HAPPY with our stay in Ka’a’awa and we would definitely recommend it! As Kama’aina, coming to this rental helped us appreciate our island home even more! It was fantastic to get away for the hustle of everyday life and “unplug”. Thank you!
This beach house was a perfect for a short getaway for my small family.
Beach had crystal clear water that the was perfect for swimming, snorkeling, fishing and hunting for crabs at night.
We had pleasant breeze the whole time that kept the house cool and relaxing.
Kitchen and bath were well equipped. Punee and beds were comfy.
Gorgeous ocean view! Nice grassy areas
This place is a million dollar view! Great service and communication. We were able to check in a little early which was very nice. Lots of chairs and places to sit on the deck or the grass. Absolutely beautiful and lots of grass and shade. I loved laying on the lounge chairs provided on the grass right at the foot of the ocean. It was very clean when we arrived. Plenty of towels and amenities like shampoo and soap, everything you need. The beds were comfortable and plenty of sheets and pillow cases. Loved the glass sliding door being open all day and the gorgeous views.
Like the listing said the traffic behind the house was loud and no a/c wasn’t a problem at night in the bedroom with the ocean breeze flowing in but our children were hot in the main room as we had to close the sliding door at night.
There was also an ant problem at this house. Not when we got there but they found their way in to a back pack and on The counter, sink, and trash.
Overall beautiful and great service.jut a few things to fix.
Aloha, great review & a big mahalo!!!
Just a note that this is summertime & that means insect time everywhere.
So no ants when you arrive, and you can keep it that way by not putting out any food that should be refrigerated. Trash needs to b emptied daily for a NO ants environment
Mahalo & have fun.
Perfect Paradise Getaway
A perfect paradise getaway is the best description for this cottage. The place is even more beautiful and adorable in person than the pictures online. The place is private and quiet, with stunning views of the beach and sunsets, and waking up to beautiful sunrises during our stay. The convenience of having the beach/shore so close to the cottage is really great. The cove on the side of the cottage is also great to play with little kids, snorkel and explore the fishes. The kitchen was also fully equipped, so you need not worry about getting some supplies. The owners Shelley and Hana, and Marilynn have been really kind and accommodating. My family and I really had a wonderful time here, away from the crowd. It was a perfect choice for our first time in Hawaii. We hope to come back again someday.
Paradise... belive it!
This place is phenomenal! You won’t believe your eyes until you walk in. Right on the water, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Plenty to do, not too far away. I’d love to live here! Owners were great to work with and would stay again!
Beautiful views, but beware of road noise
Property is definitely a beautiful piece of real estate, but be sure to bring your ear plugs. There is no screen on the large sliding door, so if you leave it open to allow for a breeze through the kitchen and living room, then flies get in. Since there is no A/C, you have to leave the windows open, which means you hear some really, really loud traffic noise all night long. The house is about 10 feet from the highway and there's no sound barrier, just a wooden fence and it's on a straightaway, so lots of speeding cars just a few feet away. The parking area was major ordeal since there was a pretty high threshold to drive over and caused us to have to back in while avoiding lots of cars whizzing by. Just a few bags of gravel would have solved the issue and made it much safer. We did enjoy the outdoor shower, but it was not exactly a private situation as we had several local people looking for bait or squid along the shore at various times. The grassy yard is nice and we enjoyed the shade under the palm trees while we took in the beautiful view of Chinaman's Hat island. Kitchen is quite out-dated for a property of this expense. If you are looking for a quaint, rustic beach house, with a nice view, this one fits the bill.
To our dear guests...It is always nice to have the opportunity to respond to your comments...
We are blessed to have a natural, open air, non air conditioned
authentic Hawaiian cottage to offer our visitors. It seems that only guests who prefer a hotel environment have these types of comments.
We are not and do not entertain the idea of providing the same enclosed,
environments that are expected in any hotel room.
Our website clearly says we have no air conditioning and that the only existing road going around the island at this point is very close to the beach. So the closer the house is to the ocean, and we are very close, the closer it is to the road...Wish we could have it all and have not road!.
If one reads other reviews, there are some comments about the road sounds but are usually noted at the beginning of a stay and as the days fly by guests just shut it out only to revel at the stunning setting and beauty of the location of the PARADISE COTTAGE.
Do read for yourself and hear the thrill in our guest comments and then
