I love the Hayward, Wisconsin area and I adore our unbelievably charming cabin, Runamuk Roost. Runamuk helps me recall the fond memories of my childhood cabin. Warm summer days of swimming, fishing and swimming with grandpa and grandma, mom and dad, cousins, siblings, friends, etc. Campfire sing alongs, roasting marshmallows, and talking with family and friends around the fire. You know: the good old days. Now that I am grown up I wanted to always keep that memory alive. That's I bought Runamuk. It's the perfect design, on the perfect lot, in the perfect location, on the perfect lake. Half vintage log cabin lodge and half-bungalow, our home, Runamuk Roost, was built in the early 1960s as a small hunting cabin. Because the original structure was so full of charm, as we added on and renovated, we built around Runamuk rather than simply tear it down and start over. Throughout we tried to maintain the underlying design and character of the property by matching things like stain, varnish, woodwork design, etc. We also tried to stay true to the vintage feel of the original Runamuk by using locally harvested wood and quarried stone, all hand-crafted by local tradesmen. Inside Runamuk there are many special items. Some have been in our family for a long time while others have been acquired not so long ago but are themselves antiques or special. They include things such as a real “moose leg” lamp made from a moose my father-in-law shot. The animal pelts scattered around are from the local Hayward, Wisconsin area and the fish mounts are from those we pulled right out of the lake less than 200 yards from the dock.
Why Joan Taylor chose Sawyer County
Staying at Runamuk is like living in a story book world. Surrounded by undeveloped property on a clean, sandy bottom lake, it’s a private lakeside cabin retreat built in the style of the great lodges and charming cabins that thrived in the early 20th century. It's historic and nostalgic setting is truly like stepping back 100 years in time. Yet with all its charm and vintage character Runamuk still retains that comfortable, cozy cabin feel. Runamuk is equipped with resplendent luxuries and modern comforts such as climate control, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, cable TV, and full gourmet kitchen, etc. With its own private sandy beach just 75’ feet away, a level and unencumbered front lawn that flows right up to the lake, and location on a good fishing and swimming lake, Runamuk is perfect for multi-generational and multiple families including those with children and folks with limited mobility. Runamuk and the surrounding northwest Wisconsin region are incredibly beautiful, awe-inspiring and are loaded with unique and fun activities and adventures. You can swim, dive, fish, bike, canoe, boat, eat in or out, golf, mini-golf, go-kart, shop, shoot shotguns, rifles and pistols, snowmobile, ATV, plus see wildlife such as bear, deer, beavers, eagles, elk, fishers, bobcats, etc. The lake Runamuk is on, Durphee Lake, is, the perfect size lake. It's big enough to water ski, tube, jet-ski, boat, etc. but is uncrowded quiet, clean, sandy and loaded with fish. The neighborhood too is quiet and good for walking, biking, etc. The property is level and has an unobstructed view of the lake. The yard is equipped with a charming lakeside fire-pit, outdoor dining.
What makes this Cabin unique
Runamuk is the most charming, well decorated, and comfortable homes around. It’s located on the best fishing, swimming, boating lake around. It's clean, sandy, and gently sloping. The fishing is great right off the dock. Our lot is near level and you have a nice, level lot that's 75' from the beach to the home. The home sits on a quiet, dead-end road in a beautiful neighborhood that's perfect for walking, biking, etc. It’s just 6 hours from Chicago and 3 from Minneapolis. The lot is large, wooded, secluded and set back from the road. In many ways it’s just like having your very own resort with a private beach & dock (pier) on a nice sandy swimming and fishing lake. Runamuk has a huge kitchen, nice-sized and comfortable bedrooms and an awesome living/great room with a beautiful fireplace. The rates include lots of extras like firewood, propane for the gas grill, a wonderful fire-ring, lawn furniture, outdoor dining facilities, linens, towels, cleaning supplies, and has fully stocked kitchen, etc. Runamuk can sleep 10+, is highly affordable and chock full of incredible charm. It is spacious, comfortable and entertaining for people of all ages. There’s lots of wildlife around as well as exhilarating and fun activities for guests of all ages. Many activities can only be found or experienced in this part of the world where we have four distinct seasons, lots of space, huge forests, glacial lakes and rivers, and an extensive motorized and non-motorized trail system.
