Visit the quiet shores of private access Carpenter Lake east of Eagle River 1/2 mile off highway 70. Stay in our comfortably furnished cottage home and relax in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Much of the furniture is new. We feature a TempurPedic king size bed plus a bunk bed. In the living room, we have a 55 inch flat screen TV connected to Direct TV with plenty of comfortable seating. The kitchen features a new dishwasher and fridge/freezer. The sun room features seating with lake views. Most importantly, we are at the end of the lane, there will be no traffic, just the tranquility of the Northwoods. Neighbors are only on one side, with a woodsy area in between, but at a good distance. The house is just steps from the lake with great views overlooking the lake. We have a 'North Woods' size fire pit over looking the lake surrounded by seating and excellent lake views. Carpenter Lake is quite large at 333 acres and has a maximum depth of 16 feet. Our beach and pier give nice access to the lake. Fish for bluegill, large mouth bass, northern pike, small mouth bass and walleye. Carpenter Lake, because it is private access only, does not have public boat launch ramps, so light fishing boats, canoes and kayaks do very well. However, if you have a larger boat that requires a permanent boat launch let us know and we can arrange launching for a small fee with our neighbors on the lake.
This cottage home has been in our family for many years and is part of a three cottage completely private compound. We hope that you can create wonderful times together as we have over many visits.
Phil purchased this cottage in 2011
Well kept and furnished, nearby property manager. Flat screen TV connected to Direct TV, new appliances in kitchen. Great lake side outdoor seating and deck seating, 'man-sized' fire pit overlooking lake..
This cottage is just minutes from eagle river very convent with a lot of tourist stuff to do near by. The bedrooms are very small but we have small children so it was perfect for us. The kids played in the lake everyday which is shallow well past the pier making it ideal for little kids. The kitchen is well stocked and the appliances nearly brand new. The grill is fantastic - large with a adjustable grate to change the temperature. The fire pit is also large and beautiful. The sunsets were fantastic. As stated in another review the new bunk beds are sturdy. The only thing I didn't like was that the dresser and closet in the bunk bed room were full of sheets, blankets and odds and ends so we had to keep the kids clothes in their suitcases all week. Also it would be nice to have a small garbage can in the bathroom. The kids asked if we can comeback next year. Great vacation and great home.
My family and I have been visiting this cabin for the past three summers. It has quickly become my favorite summer vacation spot. This cabin has everything you need for a wonderful relaxing time. The cabin is steps away from a nice sandy beach. It offers a beautiful view of the lake from the deck and fire pit area (which is great spot to relax at in the evening after a day on the lake). The cabin's indoor amenities are top notch as well, from a large flat screen HD television to a king sized tempur pedic bed, you will be comfortable staying at this cabin both indoors and out.
We really enjoyed our stay. Top quality furnishings, flat screen TV, and wonderful king sized Tempur-Pedic bed. We loved the fire pit and seating overlooking the lake. We also enjoyed the BBQ grill on the deck and our dinners while sitting on the deck. This place is so peaceful and private being at the end of the lane. Nearby property manager was so helpful.
We loved our stay at Sunset Bay Cottage. The site was exactly as described and the pictures really don't do it justice. The cabin was very clean, perfectly supplied with towels, sheets, kitchen/cooking needs, books and games. My husband had a great time fishing Carpenter Lake and caught several good-sized small mouth bass, Northern pike and other pan fish, although I would recommend renting a motor for the boat unless you prefer to row. As for me, I spent my time relaxing, reading, quilting and sipping wine! :) The cabin is great for either couples who want a secluded get-away or families with kids. We're going back again next summer! I would highly recommend Sunset Bay Cottage.

We stayed here for just short of a week and much to my surprise had a wonderful time. I wasn't as excited about the trip as my husband and family where, but had so much more fun than I expected. The cottage was very clean and comfortable, in a great location, and we enjoyed the peacefulness of Carpenter Lake. The cottage fits a family of 5 perfectly. The kitchen was fully equipped and had every thing we needed.
The lake was sandy and shallow so it was perfect for our 8 year old to explore. There were plenty of chairs on the beach and around the fire pit so no mater where you were, there was always a place to relax.
The only things I'd recommend is a broom or vacuum to clean up after ourselves, a warning about the shower before you turn it on and get water all over the bathroom floor, shower mat to step out onto, and shades or blinds in the porch to keep out the morning sun. All very nitpicky things.
Recommendations of things to do:
- Rent a motor for the row boat to take out fishing and to explore the lake.
- Go kayaking! I'd never done it before and it was one of my favorite parts of the trip. I can't wait to go again.
- Bring rafts or some kind of floats if you like to relax in the water. We brought an anchor and tied some rope to it so we wouldn't float away and laid there all day.
- Go for a fish fry at Eagle Waters Resort--it was absolutely delicious and had a fantastic patio
- Rent a pontoon boat for a day on the chain of lakes
We hope to be able to come back again. Thank you!
The good: Cabin was nice updated and comfortable, Carpenter Lake itself is the perfect size, beach front is sandy with a gentle long slope to deeper water, fire pit area over looking lake is great, being the last cabin on a dead end road is nice and we also didn't have any neighbors on the road at all that week so it was very private.
The "could have been better": No flotation devices available for boat/kayak (Luckily Cindy the manager was able to bring some over, people who stayed before cleaned up a limit of bluegills (fishing was pretty good for us as well) and dumped them 30 yards behind the cabin which smelled wonderful, not the owners fault of course but please for the people staying later dump the stuff waaayyyy back in the woods (you might just see some deer or eagles as well as my son did with our fish), bunk beds in the bedroom are a bit rickety and my kids weren't comfortable being on top, would be good to have a bit more of a guide/review of restauants, activities etc - basically had one sheet with the rules and a recommendation of a place for pizza, again Cindy had lots of recommendations of things to do in the area so that was helpful.
All in all it was really a nice experience and I would recommend it. Area was great, saw tons of wildlife, tons of trails for biking, hiking, ATV, snowmobiling etc...bring bug spray if you walk. Also would be good to bring a hatchet for making firewood smaller and maybe a small shovel.
Eagle River, WI has long been a vacationers destination. The opportunity to enjoy the myriad of natures resources has been a draw for over 100 years. The area has a low population density outside of the small towns which serve as hubs for conveniences. 1000's of acres or public access forested lands for hiking and exploring as well as 100's of lakes and rivers within a 1/2 hour drive offer recreational opportunities seldom experienced in other parts of the midwest. On any given day you will see folks heading out for a fishing or skiing adventure - or taking a canoe or kayak to a nearby river for a true wilderness experience. Best of all is that it is easy to find, coordinate and participate. The area has also become a magnet for second homes, retirees and snow-birds. This is all good as the local purveyors of goods and services are geared to assist and offer a wide selection of whatever it may be that you are looking for. Mostly what you will find are friendly and helpful people that will make it their endeavor to see that you are satisfied. The Eagle River / Three Lakes Chain of Lakes is one of natures marvels - picture 28 lakes ( 10,000 aces of water) of various sizes all connected so that you can boat from one to the other. The Nicolet / Chequamengon National Forest makes it presence known with vast expanses of unpopulated forest - take a drive or hike here and be certain to see turkey, deer, even a bear and all types of wildlife.
