About Vicki Starr
Cozy Cottage was originally built in 1920 as a summer cottage for the sisters of the head of Champion Paper Mill in Canton. The cottage has been owned by the Starr Family more than 60 years, and was used exclusively by the family until 2012 when it was made available as a summer rental. A renovation was completed to expand the home, and add modern amenities. It was very important to keep the character of the house. The owners, Ed and Vicki Starr have degrees in interior design. Ed has been active in the American Society of Interior Designer (ASID) for many years. He was named a Fellow in that professional organization and he continues to work as a design consultant. Their primary residence is in a National Historic District in Gastonia, NC and Ed serves on the City Historic District Commission. After Vicki retired from design, she reinvented herself and had a successful career catering private parties and events and was known for her artistic presentation. Now finally retired she enjoys gardening and entertaining friends. In their home and cottage they prefer an eclectic mix of styles and a natural, slightly overgrown look in the surrounding areas. When the owners, travel they always book through VRBO so they can experience first hand what guests are looking for in a rental.

Quaint cottage really is cozy
We spent a little over three weeks at Starr Cozy Cottage (SCC) at Lake Junaluska and enjoyed it. This charming cottage is close to the lake (you can walk down to the water, as long as you can handle walking uphill to get back). It has the best-equipped kitchen of all the places we've rented so far (including a Crockpot, a food processor, and about any kitchen implement, pot, or dish you could ever need to use). The owner was very helpful and accommodating, both before the rental period and during. Also, we only have one pay-as-you-go cell phone, which we carry with us for emergencies. SCC is one of a very few rentals we've encountered where there is a land line! So one particular friend, with whom I'm collaborating on a project, was able to call me at the cottage -- easy to keep in touch when a confab was needed. The cottage has loads of books and magazines if you forget to bring something of your own to read. Sitting on the screened-in front porch enjoying the towhee and wren calls and reading....well, that was just very relaxing! Would recommend SCC for a couple or small family.
Cozy, charming nest
Starr cottage was a delightful little nest to return to after busy days of hiking and antiquing. Every detail was well-thought out, from the upholstered footstools, to the wonderful lighted artwork, to the fluffy towels in the two bathrooms, to the well-appointed kitchen, to the champagne and chocolate the owner left for us as an anniversary gift. It is hard to praise the charm and warmth of the old-to-new style of the cottage sufficiently! We loved having a glass of wine on the porch before dinner, and the tub soaks with bath salts were divine. Overall a very relaxing haven! Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Thank you for your two reviews. I was pleased to see after you wrote the first review, you decided to write a second review which was more in depth and you gave the cottage 5 stars. Your thoughts are appreciated.
Charming, cozy nest
Starr Cozy Cottage is a place to feel at home while you're away. Perfect little getaway for a couple of days - close to Waynesville, Asheville, Maggie Valley and many hiking destinations.
This property was just lovely! Very charming and cozy cottage.
We had a wonderful time staying at the Starr cottage. I especially loved the shabby chic decor. It was bigger than I expected and we were quite comfortable there. The kitchen and bathrooms were very nice. Plenty of towels and the kitchen is nicely stocked with everything needed to cook very comfortably.
I would definetly recommend this rental to all! We hope to go back soon!
So glad you enjoyed you stay and look forward to having you again. Thank you for writing a review of the cottage.
