About this property

Quiet, private wine country retreat - super walkable!

This property returned to the market in 2020 after extensive renovations and is available for stays of up to three months for those looking for a secure, private retreat.
Everything you need is within walking distance in beautiful Saint Helena - grocery stores, tasting rooms, restaurants, shopping, art and more.

St. Helena is the heart of Napa Valley wine country, and this cozy and private condo just a short walk from the charming downtown has everything you need for a relaxing getaway. If you love wine, food and beautiful scenery this is your happy place... we've spent years refining the guest experience to earn 20+ five-star ratings and many repeat guests, even before the extensive 2019 renovation that enhanced its classic charm. (Please note due to city regulations we can only rent by the month, with a 3-month maximum at our discretion. )

After a day visiting nearby Napa Valley wineries, enjoy farm-to-table cuisine in any of St Helena’s incredible restaurants (including nearby Meadowood and its three Michelin stars). Or, shop at local farmers' markets and host a dinner party for 8 in a newly renovated gourmet-appointed kitchen and relax the night away in comfort in the spacious living area. If you're a serious foodie, take classes at the Culinary Institute of America just a few minutes drive away. Just looking to wind down? Get pampered at a local spa, enjoy trails starting at the park across the street through miles of vineyards, explore dozens of stunning day hikes in Napa Valley, or just soak up the sunshine in our secluded garden.

Less than 90 minutes from Oakland, SFO, Sacramento or Santa Rosa airports, this cozy and private condo has been thoughtfully updated late 2019 with a new luxury kitchen (new convection oven, quartz countertops, Bosch dishwasher, restaurant quality cookware and utensils, gourmet servingware and a full complement of stemware), updated bathroom fixtures, new high-quality hypo-allergenic bedding, new floors and fresh paint throughout.

"Chateau Nonfamous" sits at the crossroads of Napa Valley, halfway between Highway 29 and the stunning backroad of Napa, the Silverado Trail. St. Helena is the nerve center of the wine business in the Valley, with a beautifully preserved historic Main Street just a few minutes' stroll away. Charming Calistoga is just 15 minutes north with its hot springs and mudbaths, and luxe Yountville is just 15 minutes south with its concentration of fine dining, spas and walkable wineries. You're in foodie heaven with more than 36 Michelin-listed restaurants nearby in Napa, including within walking distance in St. Helena, with dozens of lovely casual options including top-rated taquerias and food trucks. You're just 30 minutes from the City of Napa with even more dining options, and a stunning 30-45 minute drive to Healdsburg and the "other valley" destinations in Sonoma. The rugged coast of Mendocino county makes a great day trip.

Other notable features include:
Easy walking to dozens of wineries, restaurants and shops.
Gourmet kitchen: everything you need for dinner parties that will wow your guests.
Master bedroom with new king bed and en-suite bathroom (spacious shower with easy access), huge closet, cozy bedside reading lamps and access to the backyard (with optional doggie door).
Second bedroom with queen bed, large closet and shared bathroom.
High-quality bedding, Turkish cotton towels and cozy throw blankets throughout.
Third bedroom with fold-out full-size sofa bed: ideal for kids. Third bedroom has office area with laptop-ready monitor and keyboard/mouse.
High-speed broadband WiFi internet included.
Extensive book/DVD/games library and live TV and streaming services for indoor entertainment; 4K UHD Samsung "Frame" TV with Sonos surround sound and Apple TV; stream your music throughout the house.
Late night with guests? Spacious sofa sleeping for singles in living room.
Outdoor dining/entertaining area with charcoal grill.
Directly across from historic Jacob Meily park with kid’s play area and bike paths.
Central heating/cooling, plus open fireplace for winter atmosphere.
Washer/Dryer.
Dog friendly (doggy door available for small dogs, beautiful offleash dog park just a half-mile down the street).

Finally, your hosts live just 30 minutes away in Napa city and have 10+ years in the area -- we work hard to ensure every guest finds the condo spotless and ready for a wonderful stay, and we're standing by to make recommendations and answer any question you might have. You literally can't miss the world-famous wineries surrounding St. Helena, but we have connections with many of the off-the-beaten-path producers that offer not only outstanding wine but stunning views and personal experiences that most tourists would miss out on. Many of our guests have said their stay at Casa Nonfamous was their favorite vacation ever, with many of our bookings either repeat guests or their referrals to friends and family.

A Great Place To Stay When You're In Town!
Huge plus being right across the street from the park!! I remember that there was a bottle of wine when we got here, so I made sure I paid it forward lol. The house itself was nice, pretty spacious and chill for the most part. The kitchen was nice, had mostly any pot and pans we needed. Didn't stay in the master bedroom, but the guest room was nice, plenty of storage room. The back patio area is probably the best highlight of the house. It wrapped around to the master bedroom. All the amenities work and having the board games on deck was key from entertainment night with the crew! Had a great time here, and would definitely recommend this place again.

About the host

Hosted by David Smith

Host profile image
David is an ex-pat Australian (Barossa Valley) now making Napa Valley his full-time home after living in Seattle, SF and Chicago. I *love* this home, and have had such wonderful times with friends and family there. After 5+ years of successful VRBO hosting, we spent much of 2019 in the condo overseeing extensive renovations. Work and personal travel still takes me around the world, and we strive to meet the high-end expectations we have as travelers ourselves.

Why they chose this property

My late husband and I bought the condo in 2010 when we were living in San Francisco as a weekend getaway. We loved it so much that we spent practically every weekend there. We spent a lot of time making it as comfortable as possible -- particularly setting up the kitchen for some amazing dinner parties.

When we moved away in 2013 we couldn't bear selling. We love for others to share in the amazing Wine Country lifestyle! Just be careful... you might be like us and decide to make Napa Valley your full-time home!

What makes this property unique

You couldn't ask for a better location. It's just a five minute walk to some of the best restaurants and wineries in the Valley, yet still in a peaceful location. You'll get an amazing night's sleep and wake up ready for a new adventure every day. And for the true foodies... if there's something the kitchen doesn't have, let us know, as we aim to make Chateau Nonfamous a true culinary and entertaining inspiration.
