Super trip

  • 5 of 5

Super clean convenient home! Lots of room in this two bedroom home, open floor plan makes everyone feel together but not cramped. Brand new bathroom, loved the outdoor deck with grill and the view of the waterfall is just icing on the cake! So easy to get in and out of the park and close enough to the town that you don't feel like you have to remember everything! We will be back!

Owner's Response: Dear Natalie, I'm so glad you enjoyed your visit to Yosemite and the Waterfall house. The bathroom remodel started out to be replacing the floor and the vanity. As with any renovation it snowballed into a full blown gut. I must admit It turned out most beautiful for a small bathroom. I'm sure you noticed the observation deck we are building, this will be a nice addition for relaxing and enjoying the canyon and waterfall view. I know it will be done before the Memorial weekend. Smiles, Ruth Foster

Nice and Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Very nice and clean home. Plenty of recent updates in the bathroom. Open and airy floor plan. Lots of "bad weather" activities available including games, puzzles, and good selection of family-friendly videos. Opening the windows in the evening and all night was a wonderful treat after a hot day. The deck overlooking the waterfall was a nice quiet retreat. The waterfall itself was a natural rock climbing challenge for our 16 yo. Washer and Dryer were very nice to have available. Towels in the bathroom were nice and fluffy, though the kitchen could use a few more linens for wiping and drying dishes. Small appliances were available for cooking, blending, toasting or coffee making. The Gas Grill was a pleasure to use. The deck is naturally shaded in the morning and had beautiful sunset views. Dim bedroom lighting. The ducks "in the ceiling" were a funny unexpected surprise to my teen. Each lamp in the place had controls on the cord (I prefer a switch at the wall). Wi-fi was very appreciated. This home is close to Highway 41 and with easy access to Oakhurst, Yosemite, and Bass Lake. We'd stay here again or recommend this home in a heartbeat.

Owner's Response: Hi John, Sorry it took so long the respond to your review, I accidentally deleted your email. When I saw your review on the VRBO web sight I looked and found I had deleted it ( oh dummy me ) I'm so happy you enjoyed your stay, we do have a nice breeze that comes through the valley every night to cool down the Waterfall house. I was hoping you saw the beautiful sunsets, the house is positioned west for that reason. I'm glad your son had fun scrambling on the rock outcroppings. I will take your advise and furnish the kitchen with more dish towels. Kind regards, Ruth

Beuatiful home and relaxing location

  • 4 of 5

This house is exactly as advertised. There really is a waterfall and a great lower deck built around a tree close to the waterfall. So relaxing. The only reason I did not give it five stars is that we were there for Yosemite and it is a very long drive to the valley floor from the house. But we would definitely stay again if we were going to hang out at the lake.

Owner's Response: Hi Connie, I'm happy you enjoyed your stay at the Waterfall house. I wish you could have stayed a little longer, the drive to the park can be daunting when you have time constraints. Bass Lake is only 4 miles up the road and is a alpine lake. We like to call it our little lake Tahoe, but not nearly as cold to where you can't go swimming. There is another grove of Giant Sequoias up HWY 41 called Nelder grove not to many folks know about it, and I think it is something they should look into. Thank you for your kind review, and hope to see you at the lake in the future. Regards, Ruth

The area is what makes this house special

  • 3 of 5

Positives: The waterfall was a fun addition to the home and my kids enjoyed the little adventure down to the waterfall to swim. We also panned for gold in the waterfall. The house is close to bass lake where we rented a pontoon and tubed one day! The Bass Lake rental staff was kind. Yosemite is not too far, but be prepared to take a long drive as the park itself is huge! We enjoyed Yosemite and it was nice return to this house away from the hussle and bussle of the park. Oakhurst is right around the corner for groceries or a quick meal. There are some fun little shops in the area as well. The cathedral ceiling was nice and the house and linens clean. I also enjoyed reading on the deck overlooking the waterfall. The art on the walls was special as well as the photography from yosemite.

Negatives: Sadly, I hate to do this, but after a 4 night stay I'm agitated.(I also have a rental property and live in a resort community so I am well aware of making something feel special) This house was average. I wasn't expecting a grand house, but there are some things this vacation home is lacking for comfort. Its always nice to have a little extra touch of thoughtful amenities and this place doesn't make you feel this way. If you plan to cook know this kitchen is minimally stocked. Not even simple items such as a spatula or typical cookie sheet. The non stick pans are in need of replacing as well. The beds are small! If you are tall don't expect your husband to be able to sleep in the master bedroom with you. It was probably our fault for not checking the bed sizes. My husband was couch bound all week as we are both tall. The furniture was not picked based on comfort and after a long hike and drive its nice to curl up and be able to relax and watch a movie. The couch is small, the chairs are small, stiff and office like, the coffee table glass top slides all over the place not allowing one to "kick up their feet." I can tell the furniture was recently updated but not for comfort. The traffic was easily heard across the mountain at 5am. I woke up to trucks on their way to work in the morning. We made the best of it and I am not usually a tuff critic, but I hope some simple changes can be made because the house has potential to be really cozy.

Finally, we really did enjoy our time here at Bass Lake and Yosemite, but I would not rent this house again. I would say If you have a quick weekend getaway go for it, but otherwise I was not the biggest fan.

Owner's Response: Hi Tyler, You are absolutely correct, the property is what makes this house special. Regarding Yosemite, it’s huge about the size of Rhode Island and I’ve yet to explore it all. Most of the main attractions are down on the valley floor which would take you about an hour to get to from the south gate. I’m sorry your stay didn’t meet your expectations. When my husband and I went shopping for beds, comfort was our main focus. Both of us are about 5’7" and sleep in a queen size bed. The master bed room is certainly large enough for a cal king bed. The coffee table was not the best choice and I have commissioned a local artisan to fabricate a real nice slice of ponderosa pine for a new table top. I’ve never sat in the chairs long enough to comment either way, and I admit I liked the way they looked as far a as design statement. Perhaps, I need to pay less attention to HGTV design shows ( I just love those "Property Brothers" ) and more attention to the Lazy Boy furniture commercials "stylish yet comfortable". I disagree about the couch, It’s very comfortable and is a standard size. Regarding the kitchen being minimally stocked I disagree. After I received your review I went to do inventory. There is a large stainless vessel with brightly colored cooking utensils including 3 spatulas etc. I told housekeeping to keep them on the counter and not in the pantry so they are easily found. There was a pizza pan that has gone MIA ( after all pizza is the most perfect food as far as I’m concerned ) I will replace it along with cookie sheets. You are correct about some of the pots, they looked like crap. Until I get down to the big city (Fresno ) to shop for pots I went shopping on my pot rack at my house and have supplied the little house with nice Circulon pots. I must add, this house does not lack small appliances. We have a coffee grinder, blender, crock pot, waffle iron, coffee pot, tea kettle, toaster and a microwave. I was not aware of traffic that early in the morning, most folks up here are retired or work in the hospitality industry, and large trucks are not allowed inside the park except for delivery trucks. With that being said, we do have triple pane windows, not only are they efficient in keeping the house cool they have a great sound barrier. I thank you so much for the constructive criticism. Especially the bed size, this issue may have caused us to loose potential guests. Regards, Ruth

Beautiful home with great location

  • 5 of 5

I spent 4 nights at this beautiful home with my family of five and only wished we had more time to stay. The location is great, very close to Bass lake, approx 5-10min drive. Yosemite, which was our target destination, is only about 15 min to the South entrance and approx 1 hour to the valley or Glacier Point. The waterfall was enough to enjoy the natural sounds of running water, despite our California drought. The home is very clean and spacious. AC and Wi-Fi was just like being home--with kids enjoying Netflix on our phones after the day's hikes. I didn't BBQ, but there's a nice gas grill on the patio-deck. We love Yosemite, and know we'll be back in the future, and this is the home we'll look for next time.

Beautiful home and setting

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful home and a beautiful setting.

The home has an open floorplan. Cathedral ceiling in the living room with so much light. Clean, elegant rooms. Beautiful furnishings. Large open rooms.

The yard is a beautiful waterfall, with beautiful views. New deck, wonderful to sit and listen to the waterfall.

My one note - and this is NOT a complaint! - is that the house is so lovely and the waterfall is so close and high and beautiful that when we first arrived I was worried I'd have to be collaring my (well-behaved) toddlers all the time so that they did not hurt the beautiful furnishing in the house or themselves in the yard.

BUT we discovered a few gems that made this a great place for kids.

1) the children's museum of the sierras is 5 minutes away and it is AMAZING. 7 rooms of well-planned and well-thought out activities. We could have spent days there.

2) The sierra railroad is 15 minutes up the road and was a blast for my kids to ride.

3) Mariposa grove is 30 minutes away and a do-able hike for a 2-year old.

4) Sugarpine pizza is outstanding and my kids loved it - they deliver.

5) The house has a lot of activities for kids. There is a giant checkerboard, a puzzle of the states, Uno, cards, books, etc.

So if you don't have kids, this is a great spot for you. If you do have little kids, its not a "free-range" house or property (because its nice!), but that is OK because there is so much to do in the area, and its nice to have a nice place to stay when you are at home.

(I have to make a sidenote here - we ended up rescuing an orphaned fawn that was wandering in the yard, crying. We called the Kindred Spirits fawn rescue and they helped us figure out that the fawn was indeed an orphan, and know how to gather it. We drove 2 hours to meet them in the middle and now that baby fawn is with other orphaned fawns on a rescue reserve in the north. I guess that tells you how "in nature" you are in this beautiful property! What a fun adventure that was!)

Owner's Response: Hi Melissa, What a lovely review, thank you. I must say, we couldn't of ask for better guests. The fact you took time away from your vacation to rescue the little fawn speaks volumes. We have lots of wildlife up here in the mountains. I've seen bobcats, opossums, foxes, bears, racoons, deer and skunks. We don't like to talk about the skunks, just ask my dog Houston ( I didn't know they can climb fences). Regarding our house being kid friendly. The glass coffee table needs to be replaced with a ottoman type table ( another reason to go shopping ). I have a white quilt on the master bed, so if there is any type of soil I can see it and clean it promptly. We do have a large assortment of kid movies and several games. We plan on putting in some faux lawn and fencing in the back side of the yard so kids can play unencumbered. Kind regards, Ruth

We are located 13 miles from the south entrance. Should take approx. 20 min. to get there and another 45 min. to 1 hour to get to the valley floor. I would advise leaving early to avoid backup at the entrance gate. To truly explore Yosemite's beauty it will take several days.
