This beautiful oak wood cabin has an open design that features a high ceiling combined living room and kitchen. The cabin has a large master bedroom that can sleep 2 or more, a loft bedroom for 1, and 2 bathrooms-1 with shower, 1 with bathtub.
The outside front porch offers a view of the Rough Mountain and is a favorite place for an early morning cup of coffee.
The cabin is nestled in the woods on a 450 acre farm. The farm fronts 3 miles of the pristine Cowpasture River and borders the George Washington National Forest.
The area is ideal for outdoors activities including hiking, swimming, canoeing, and fishing. A tennis court is also located on the property.
The Cowpasture River Cabin is located on our family farm in Bath County. My parents purchased this farm over 40 years ago and they lived out their lives here. I moved here, to take over the farm, 8 years ago. We love the beauty, privacy, and the lifestyle that comes with living in the country.
The cabin was designed to blend into the secluded, woods where it is located. My parents wanted to be have a private home that would allow them to enjoy the nature they treasured and worked to preserve. Visitors to the cabin feel the serenity and peace the setting provides.
The setting provides stunning views of a mountain range in the front of the cabin while the the rest of the cabin is surrounded by the forest. The inside of the cabin is beautiful and very comfortable for small groups/families. The combined kitchen/living room allow visitors to gather and socialize easily. The master bedroom and loft allow for privacy for those who want to nap or read. The front porch is favorite spot for early morning sightings of deer while sipping a cup of coffee. It is also a great place for a evening drink after a day of hiking or enjoying the river.
Great communication pre arrival and easy to find. It was a very cold weekend, but the wood stove kept us warm. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again.
This was our first VRBO experience and we could not have asked for a more perfect introduction. The location was great...easy to get to but felt secluded. The cabin was fantastic. It was extremely well stocked and was not lacking for a single amenity. There was no A/C but it was not needed- even in august. It was very well shaded with fabulous windows that provided a great cross breeze. The front porch was a favorite and I could have spent hours just relaxing and listening to the sounds of nature. We have a 3 and a 5 yr old and we picked the location because we wanted to explore and meet family at Douthat State Park. We wound up only staying at Douthat a few hours and coming back to spend the rest of the time at the cabin, because there was more than enough to keep everyone entertained right at our doorstep. The river on the property was perfect for kids, dogs, and fishing husbands. The fish were plenty and the water level was perfect for little people. There were also lots of paths and trails for exploring. We did almost all of our cooking on the charcoal grill or over a campfire. Edward and Sheri were very accommodating and helpful. They let us set up a tent in the front yard so that my boys could have their first ever camping experience. We had a blast and created memories to last a lifetime. We will definitely go back!
My husband and I rented the cabin for a long weekend in May to escape Northern Virginia/Washington DC. We had plans to visit a number of parks and rivers in the area, but as it turned out the farm offered so many activities that we never left! Despite a little rain, we did some fly fishing in the Cowpasture River, made excellent meals over the charcoal grill (and made good use of the cast iron in the kitchen), explored the trails around the property, met some of the resident livestock--cows and free range guinea hens, I think--and generally enjoyed the peace and quiet from the chairs on the porch. Our dog had a blast, too, chasing his nose around the woods and river. The cabin itself is beautifully furnished, has loads of windows for great light and excellent views of the forest, and is kept very clean and tidy. Some of the appliances are on the older side but work perfectly fine. For those who can't disconnect entirely, the wifi worked great. We also appreciated the well maintained library--the nature books came in handy to help identify wildlife that we saw during our visit. All-in-all, it was exactly what we were looking for, at a great price, and with wonderful property owners as the icing on the cake. We hope to return soon.
This was our 2nd trip to the cabin! First time we enjoyed so much as a birthday present to my husband, we had to come back with our friends! The cabin is secluded and comfortable with amazing views of the mountains. The drive to douthat state park is less than 30 minutes with some beautiful trails to mountain bike and hike. A walk on the farm is enjoyed by the dogs, finished by a swim in the river at the top of the property. Highly recommended to any nature lover or someone looking for outdoor adventures!
The wife, myself and the two dogs went out to the mountains for four days & three nights and had a wonderful time exploring the mountain, letting the dogs run free, cooking delicious meals in a well-equipped kitchen and catching up on napping on a nice, big king bed. We'll be back! The only "others" would be a) if you're not used to well water, there's bottle water at the Kroger in town and b) make sure your dogs don't run into the barbed wire near the cow pasture.
The three of us stayed here for 2 nights in the late fall. We chose it because of the great location to location fishing on the Cowpasture. The cabin is spacious and comfortable. It's like being at someone's house while they are gone. Well-appointed, quiet, room inside and out. The wood stove is the perfect combo of heat and ambiance, and the kitchen is more than serviceable, even for this hungry, eat-in group. The shower is upstairs, so anyone who can't climb a flight of stairs will need to take a bath on the first floor. Huge main-room windows afford a 180-degree view of the property.
The property is on the same land where the owner's live, but far enough away not to see or hear anyone. The covered porch out front is the perfect place to stage equipment, dry out wet gear, and prep for your next adventure. There is a tv and dvd, but no TV channels, so come prepared with dvd's or better yet--go outside!
A great cabin. Cozy, well-stocked, awesome location and a terrific value!
