About Kathryn Bowers

My grandfather purchased property on Holden Beach way back in the 50's. Our first family home was built in 1956 after Hurricane Hazel. It was a privilige to grow up here, spending the summers on Holden Beach. My husband and I met at Holden Beach and lived here many years before moving to Greensboro, NC to care for family. We built this house in 1995 and now our grandchildren are loving the beach. We spend lots of holidays here too. We have lots of memories here and still making more.

Kathryn Bowers purchased this cottage in 1995

Why Kathryn Bowers chose Southern Coast

You will love the quaint feeling of the house and beach. And yet if you want to go sightseeing or shopping you have Shallotte (15 miles), Wilmington or Myrtle Beach (55 miles). Holden Beach is truly a family beach.

What makes this cottage unique

We decided to become pet friendly several years ago because we do not travel without our furry pals, Buzz and Kady. Many folks advised us not to, saying that dogs would damage our house. We have found this to be absolutely untrue because dogs are part of the family. We feel that a responsible pet owner will take care of our home. Pets only do what one allows them to!!!

Best of the Beach

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here in early Fall and had a wonderful time enjoying the cottage and its unbeatable location on Holden Beach. My family (including dog) had just a perfect time, exactly the relaxing and stress free vacation we needed! The cottage was spacious and clean, the living area is very comfortable and the real heart of the house. Also, I was very pleased with how well stocked the kitchen was with utensils, pots, plates, everything you would need. I particularly loved sitting on the back porch and watching the ocean which is right at your back door. The pelicans are my favorite! The owner was beyond kind and accommodating when making our reservation, all communications we had and when we arrived at the house. She went above and beyond in making us feel welcome at her lovely home on the beach. If we ever have another opportunity to rent a place on the beach we would be thrilled to stay here again!

Owner's Response: Sharing our cottage with folks that love the shore and appreciate our cottage make renting a pleasure. Thank you so much for sharing and giving details that will help others to know just what to expect if they choose to vacation at "Shore-luv-it". We know its not the fanciest, but as you said we strive to have it clean and comfy. Our family calls it our "Happy Place". Come again!

Perfect Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

I have been going to Holden my entire life and since the late 90's we have been house hopping. We have been trying to find the perfect house for our family so that our kids can have the same memories I had growing up. This house hits all our wish lists. Pet friendly, kind and helpful owners, spacious, outdoor shower, great location, stocked kitchen, and it's clean!!!! In a few days we will be returning to Shore Luv It for the 3rd time in one year. Just as I had hoped for, our kids are counting the hours (so am I). I hope that we can come back year after year. Thank you Kathryn and David for letting us enjoy your bit of paradise.

The only thing I would change are the beds. King in Master and in one of the queen rooms, 2 twins. But that is just my preference for my family.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your great review. Its knowing that you all have such a fun time at our cottage that makes renting a delightful experience. It takes a devoted and sincere cleaning team to keep the cottage clean. That's just what Gail, Rudy, and Garrett do for "Shore-luv-it"!! Thanks too for your input about the size mattresses that you like for you family. We will remember that when its time to purchase new ones. Its always a pleasure having you and your crew stay with us. Thanks, Kathryn

Beach Haven

We have stayed at "Shore Luv It" for many years and look forward to returning each year. The lay out of the home is great, providing a large great room kitchen area where you can enjoy being together. The bedrooms offer privacy with a TV in each one. The kitchen is one of the best equipped I've seen, having everything you need to prepare meals. Games can be found in case you forget to bring some, and books are there if you're looking for something to read. We especially enjoy the porch which has plenty of rockers. The beach deck is nice when returning from the beach because you can leave your beach chair, floats, etc. there and not have to carry them to the house. Also, the outside shower is nice when you don't want to get sand all in the bathroom. Kathryn is always helpful and keeps the house updated and neat.

We just left "Shore Luv It" from a family vacation, and we will be back!! The pictures do not do this adorable, roomy cottage enough justice! It is homey and classy! The kitchen literally has everything you need!! Kathryn is amazing! She was there for us for anything we needed and checked on us after the storm! This was also one of the cleanest VRBO rentals in which I have ever stayed and I have stayed in quite a few! I give this ocean front home a 12 out of 10!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your compliments about our cottage "Shore-luv-it". You folks went from a rainy, stormy tropical storm to a sunny spring vacation. You also got to see what kind of erosion our beautiful Atlantic can to do our shore front. We hope you and your family will return. Thank you for treating our cottage like your home! Kathryn

Peace at the beach!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at 'Shore Luv It' in August and truly had a wonderful stay. The house was clean and well kept, and the kitchen was very well stocked with everything we needed. The location (on the beach) was ideal as we had had children of varying ages (8 through 20), so it was easy for everyone to utilize the beach whenever they felt the desire.

We would certainly stay at this property again!

Wonderful Vacation Home! Perfect for our family in every way. Heavenly!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The listing was just as described and we were so impressed with the attention to details that made our stay comfortable. The house was meticulously clean and orderly. The kitchen especially was such a pleasure to cook in and had everything we could possibly think of needing, even for serving a crowd. The spaciousness of the house gives total privacy to each bedroom and the baths are very new and nice. We enjoyed the back porch as well as the deck halfway down the private boardwalk to the beach. The beach was not crowded and was wide and beautiful with soft sand. The owners obviously love their home and care very much that guests are happy. We cannot say enough about how impressed we were. Highly recommend!

Car: not necessary

Holden Beach is a quaint southern beach. The island is about 10 miles long with both ocean and marsh views. There is a sidewalk parallel to the street for walking, jogging, or biking. Captain Pete's Seafood is probably the nicest restaurant on the island under the east side of the bridge. Captain Pete's Seafood Market is next door for buying fresh seafood. Provision Company is on the mainland side under the bridge on Cedar Landing for less formal, family dining (waterway view). A few other eating places are Paradise Cafe, Archibald's Deli, Castaways, MainStreet and always our local Fishing Pier. Being a family beach you have putt putt, a family owned water slide, fishing pier, charter fishing, jet ski rentals and other water sports. If you would like more to do both Wilmington, NC and Myrtle Beach, SC are both about an hour away, easy to get to on HWY 17. Most important a Food Lion grocery store is less than a mile from the Holden Beach bridge.
