About the property

Just Renovated! Hidden Cabin On 2 Acres, With Unobstructed Lake Access And Dock

This is the real deal - a 3 story cabin, 4 bedrooms, 3 full baths in a serene setting - 2.5 wooded acres - hidden from the road and open in back to the water. There's a bamboo forest and a wide open back yard which is perfect for playing catch, throwing the ball or just hanging out in the sunshine.

The home has a rustic feel with the kitchen and dining room opening to the living room with a large stone fireplace and beautiful staircase leading to the private master suite which boasts large closets, a jetted tub, marble and glass tile, spa-like rain head shower. All bathrooms have just undergone extensive renovation with new tile, toilets, and vanities. There are 3 queen beds on site - one in the master suite, the other on the main floor level bedroom, and a third in the walk out basement/garden level bedroom. The other main floor bedroom has a bunk bed and is perfect for kids. There are also 2 pack n plays, 2 couches, a blow up mattress, extra pillows, and a futon for additional sleeping. The downstairs has a wide open playroom which opens to the back yard. There's also a renovated bath downstairs. The cabin is fully wired with WiFi and cable and a dock for your iPad/iPhone. The basement tv comes with DVD and apple tv. Cellphone service is good with nearby cell towers so you're always in touch. The new heat pump heats and cools the space to your liking and the pine log walls and wide plank hardwoods give that perfect cozy cabin feel you've been dreaming of. There's a laundry room in the basement to keep things clean. The kitchen is stocked with dinnerware, cups, glasses, a single serve coffee maker, regular coffee maker, blender, cooking pots/pans, and a wine opener. There's a fire pit for making s'mores on the lower patio.

The dock in back is the perfect sunset setting and there's good fishing too! If you rent a boat for the weekend you'll find the Ritz only 10 min away by water and Oconee's own 'cocktail cove' just 5 min away. Oconee is an amazing lake as the water never gets too low and its always clean and pristine for swimming off the dock or tubing/wakeboarding/skiing.

Plantation Rentals is proud to offer rentals including 12 person Pontoons, and Plantation Rental (706) 467-1194 - they will be happy to assist with all your needs.

Pontoon - $75 per hour or $300 for 5 hrs or $500 all day (10 hrs); 12 person max

There's nearby hiking and mountain biking. Local roads boast 'share the road' signs so it is definitely biker friendly. Shopping is only 15 min away with a movie theater, restaurants, a Publix, and much more within an easy drive. Don't forget to check out the beautiful Oconee State Park - only a 30 min commute - for more hiking and sightseeing.

About Jeff Gaines

We are now a family of five. My wife and I just had twin boys and our little girl turned two recently. We love weekend getaways but will be spending time in the city until the newborns are old enough to travel. This Cabin retreat is our way of keeping sane. Its great to come home refreshed after swimming and boating and hiking and just relaxing in the woods.

Jeff Gaines purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Jeff Gaines chose Greensboro

If you really want to feel like you're on vacation and have 'gotten away from it all' you need a cabin. This place has all of the modern updates with nice furnishings and best of all its very private with lots of land to play on.

What makes this cabin unique

The screened in porch with lake view is a wonderful place to relax and read a book. You can catch fish right off the dock which is just a few steps from the back wrap around deck. The master suite is secluded upstairs and has its own private balcony for your morning cup of joe. You can explore the enchanting bamboo forest and hike around the neighborhood on a whim.

Good Overall Value

  • 4 of 5

We were a group of 4 guys staying during masters week. Overall property was as expected. Nice central location between atlanta and augusta. Gave us access to local courses and at a much better value than other properties in prime areas, at the cost of a little drive time around the lake from restaurants and other things (about 20 min away). Owners were great to deal with.

Charming, Peaceful Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Our stay here was too short! We'll definitely be back. Serene, beautiful setting with a huge backyard leading up to the lake. Back porch overlooks the lake, and we loved that we could have meals out there while we enjoyed the view. As for the inside, the owner mentioned that he'd recently renovated, and it showed. Loved that there were pack n' plays available (this saved a lot of room as we packed the car), and bunk beds for our older son. We had more than enough room for the four of us- we plan to return with another family on our next visit. The location is great- very close to town, but still very secluded and private. The only negative we had was that the dock could use some better lighting at night. All in all, the place was a hit for both us and the kids. We're already planning our next visit!

Upkeep Needed

  • 3 of 5

While the cabin was rustic and comfortable with a great lake front location the place felt like it needed some upkeep.

Several, and I mean several wasps greeted us upon our arrival at the main entry door and despite our attempts to swat them away every day of our stay, they kept reappearing. Wasp nests could be seen tucked in the window frames outside.

The rental needed to be hosed down on the wraparound porch and screened in portion. An incredible amount of pollen had collected in the screened porch area, making it unusable as it gave it a dirty, unkept feel.

It would have been nice to use the under deck area where the firepit was located but once again the concrete pad area felt like it hadn't been hosed down or attended to in years. The s-curse seat was comfortable but again was so dirty and dustry it needed a blanket over it, if you wanted to sit on it.

The yardlight on the back property by the lake, was burnt out and never came on while we were there. Sitting down on the dock at night was a "blackout" experience with no lighting on the dock either.

As for inside the rental, the constant creaking and crackling coming from the rafters and walls in the night prompted me to text the owner and inquire if the house was haunted or something. I did not sleep well, with these unnerving and ever present noises every night. He said the noises had to do with the cabin being an "A-Frame construction with open ceiling and beam construction" with no drywall to muffle the noises.

The ceiling fan/light located on the upper level and at the highest point in the house did not work. Not having a light to turn on once you exited the bedroom in the night made traversing the short/steep stairs to downstairs a harrowing experience.

The basement had an extreme musty smell and the stand up shower in the basement needed some extreme cleaning as it had yellow and brown water stains. My boys would not use it because it felt "gross".

All in the all, the place was acceptable but for a rental the lack of upkeep was certainly disappointing.

Nice getaway

  • 3 of 5

Great view on a beautiful property. Plenty of room to spread out inside. Would have been happier if we didn't have to locate sheets and towels in basement and make our own beds. Also the kitchen needed some measuring utensils and a few more pots and pans.

Owner's Response: Just added a new set of cookware and utensils. Always looking to improve things for our guests. Sheets and towels are cleaned and left in laundry area after each guest stays so new guests have no questions on whether the bedding has been changed.

Two Weeks @ Lake Oconee

  • 4 of 5

Pictures are true representation of property, owner was very easy to work with,

Pro's - location, size, [private boat ramp - awesome], secluded from the highway and plenty of room for two trucks and two boat trailers (one -20 foot pontoon trailer & one - Sea doo boat trailer) & one Camry) six adults, two dogs, & one 15 month old) , comfortable beds, washer/dryer, nice screen porch, lots of deer to watch, great size fridge, big play room in basement, LOVED the hammock swing, plenty of seating outside and inside. Master suite very large with walk-in/dressing closet, nice easy slope to the water, Marina across from sandbar/cove for gas & ice, Close to Publix and lots more in Oconee Village. BEST Place we ate at in Oconee Village - Filet Steak & Seafood - awesome!! so good even if we pass through the area that will be a stopping place for us.

Con's -Need more pots/bowls & better lighting in the kitchen and dining area, not great for a rambunctious 15-month-old but very doable with our baby gates we were able to contain him safely, lots of stairs. Overall we had a pleasant stay and felt secluded but were very close to lots whether out on the lake or running to town. One thing to mention when pulling into the dock - if you go past the dock there is a rock ledge that can damage your motor (the neighbor stopped up before we made that mistake) we just had to raise the motor when docking our pontoon. Our son had no problems w/his boat though.

quiet and relaxing

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at the cabin the weekend of our daughters graduation from UGA. Was perfect for us, far enough from the mayhem in Athens but close enough to get too in a hurry. Had plenty of room for our crew of 8 adults. Owner is very accommodating and aims to please. Scenery is beautiful. We spent most of our time on the porch enjoying the view and playing cards. Would recommend this cabin for families, friends and general get together s, would definitely stay again if possible.

Car: necessary

This cabin is located in one of the best non gated communities on Oconee. The front of the lot is a forest and the home is placed far from the road and the trees make it seem secluded. Being 2 houses away from the dead end means no traffic! A short 10 min ride gets you to all of the major golf courses, shopping, theaters and restaurants. There's a public dock and you can have a boat delivered for your stay. The Ritz Carlton allows the public to use their beach and restaurant facilities free of charge and is just 10 min by boat or 15 by car. Stop by Publix on your way in to grab supplies for the weekend.
