Perfect for a long weekend in Rockport

  • 4 of 5

A total of 8 of us stayed at the Kiwi House and it suited all our needs for a wedding we were attending in Gloucester. We made good use of the grill and cooking utensils for meals. Even the old school radio got a lot of playing time as we relaxed in the living room. The only reason for 4 stars is that there is just one bathroom in the house, which caused a couple challenges as we were all trying to get ready.

Ok... not ideal for babies/toddlers

  • 2 of 5

The house is in a great location-- walkable to town and to front beach. Also close to the train station and Dunkin Donuts. It's pretty spacious and had the basics. That said, we were very disappointed that there was peeling/chipping paint on several doors and windowsills. We had inquired specifically about this, based on some of the other reviews, since we have small children. We were assured that the interior would be repainted before our stay and we were disappointed to see blatant peeling paint and paint chips in various places. Additionally, they had house painters come one day to do the exterior without checking with us. My husband needed to work at the house that day and had to smell wet paint all day. The house is for sale and I presume the owners aren't that invested in their guests any longer. We made the best of our trip and didn't bother to make a deal of it with the owners, but I would definitely not stay there again.

Old, but charming

  • 3 of 5

Some parts of the house looked like they could use some touching up (peeling paint in the bedroom) but overall it was nice.

This house had everything we needed for our family vacation and was in a great location

  • 4 of 5

A short walk to the beach, across the street from pizza Chinese and crepe restaurants and convenience store, in the adorable town of Rockport. Had everything we needed and owners were respectful of our privacy. Nothing fancy. Property is shared with another cottage which was fine since there were separate entrances and plenty of space.

Poorly maintained property

  • 1 of 5

The property was poorly maintained. Paint is peeling everywhere on exterior and interior. House was hot. No air conditioning downstairs and windows old and difficult to open. Toilet ran constantly and required fixing. Dishwasher wasn't working properly. Bannister slipped off hinge nearly causing injury on two occasions. Plastic chairs on porch were cracked- again nearly resulting in injury. Would not recommend to anyone.

At the northern-most tip of Cape Ann, and a mere 37 miles from Boston, sits the picturesque seaside village of Rockport. Settled in 1690, Rockport quickly became the leading supplier of granite as evidenced by the many outcrops of its old quarries. With Bearskin Neck and its many shops, studios and restaurants jutting out from the town’s center into its charming harbor, Rockport today boasts a thriving artist community and some of the most widely painted sea and landscapes in the world, including Motif #1. The harbor remains home to an active fishing fleet, offering visitors a unique chance to observe artists at their craft or lobstermen hauling their traps. Along Rockport’s historic Main Street, from Dock Square to Beach Street, Rockport is filled with scores of enticing gift shops, galleries, restaurants, candy stores, clothing stores and boutiques, alongside extraordinary cultural venues, most notably the Rockport Art Association and the Shalin Liu Performance Center.
