About Bev and Earl Wenthin

We are a family with two boys and a girl. I met my wife on Whidbey and our two boys where born in the house --it was the plan!

Bev and Earl Wenthin purchased this house in 1995

Why Bev and Earl Wenthin chose Freeland

This is a great place to relax and enjoy the Puget Sound region. There are many nice walks in the nearby parks --and the beach of course. The house is on a large property so you will have plenty of space to play in the backyard.

What makes this house unique

Whidbey Island is the closest far away place for the Seattle residents. There a unique feeling one gets once the ferry lands on the island. At Bush Point Retreat you get outstanding views, easy access to the beach, and plenty of space for privacy.

Perfect Island Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This is a truly lovely home, and made for the perfect - if too short - year-end retreat. The home is just as advertised - maybe even better. The late 1950s architecture is lovely - clean lines, spacious kitchen and endless windows looking out towards the sound. The home is equipped with everything you need, including a massive fireplace that is both romantic and a terrific house-warmer. The spacious yard is fully fenced, so our older dog was able to investigate as much as he liked. The hot tub is big and has a great view of the sound. The bed was super comfortable.

The house is located in a quiet neighborhood, an easy walk from a private beach and about 4.5 miles from Double Bluff beach, a long sandy beach that is also an off-leash heaven from dogs. We managed to time our walks with high tide - note to self, use the tide charts as your guide - but even with that we took long walks and enjoyed the beautiful view of the Olympics. The view from the house is spectacular - I got lost watching ships passing by, and the rosy, beautiful sunrises - a rare Pacific Northwest winter-time treat. The best part was a pair of eagles who entertained us two days in a row. The terrestrial telescope gave us an amazing view of them as they sat side-by-side on the top of a tree.

Bev is a wonderful host - very accommodating. Just the right balance of welcoming us warmly and then providing space for us to chill and make ourselves at home. This home is definitely on our "go again!" list.

Beautiful property for a relaxing get-away

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect setting for a get-away for two couples. The first thing we saw upon entering the house was an expansive view of the shipping channel and the Olympic Peninsula beyond. While there was much to do on Whidbey Island, the most enjoyable was to watch the changing vistas before us. The home was efficiently designed, and generously stocked with everything we would need to make our stay enjoyable. Whether soaking in the hot tub (again, with that lovely view!), or sitting on the deck, or playing a game or just reading with a fire crackling in the fireplace, our time in the home was absolutely wonderful. As nice as the home was, the responsiveness of Bev and Earl, the managers, added to our enjoyment. Bev met us within minutes of arriving at the house to acquaint us with the house and the amenities. A problem with figuring out the TV was immediately resolved. Any other questions or concerns that arose were also immediately addressed. Bush Point Retreat was a lovely, relaxing site for our too-short visit to beautiful Whidbey Island.

Wonderful views and comfortable house!

  • 5 of 5

The house was even better than we expected. My sister and I stayed for 5 days, enjoying time on the deck, watching a wide variety of boats coming and going. The only disappointment was the longer than anticipated distance to the beach.

I could never get tired of that gorgeous view of the sound!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and are two young children stayed at this home for five days, four nights. We loved the big yard for our toddler to run around in and even found a fort in the back yard and a baseball and bat to play with. We spend most of our days either outdoors enjoying the beautiful yard (Lots of trees, gorgeous landscaping, fresh lavender), or sitting on the deck facing the sound or on the beach. The location has a down-to-earth feel to it, with many local fishermen filling up the beaches. You can literally walk down to the beach from this location. The house itself was perfect for a family vacation. The kitchen was fully stocked with an assortment of pans, dishes, spices, etc. Everything was very clean and the house was nicely decorated and had lots of wonderful plants. The best part of staying there was the view. It was breathtaking. It made even washing dishes an enjoyable task!

I booked this rental online. We loved it from the moment we walked through the door! The property manager, Bev, was so helpful. She checked us in quickly upon our arrival. The house is extremely neat and well cared for. The views are breathtaking! We traveled around the island the next day to sightsee. When we returned to the rental, we soon realized that we were already in the prettiest part of Whidbey Island...all we had to do was gaze out of the window or step out onto the deck of this beautiful home. We didn't need to travel any further to find the most beautiful views on this island. We loved walking along the beach which was within walking distance from the house. We didn't get a chance to visit any local eateries...this kitchen was so well equipped we enjoyed cooking our own meals and staring out at the bay waiting for the next ship to come by! I will definitely come here again. We were allowed to bring our small dog as well. It really felt like a home away from home. I have to admit, I was a little sad to leave his place!

This was exactly, EXACTLY, what we needed: a restful, beautiful location to rejuvenate our souls. Even though most of the weekend was cloudy with a few sprinkles, it did not detract from our enjoyment of this lovely home with fabulous views and amenities. I used the secluded hot tub more than I ever have used one before, and that combined, with reading, napping, eating delicious seafood, and wandering art galleries was perfect. Repeat, redo over and over; and then to end with a lovely sunny day and walk along the beach at low tide was a perfect ending to a much needed restful weekend. We will definitely return.
