3 Bedroom, 2.5 Bathroom, Sleeps 8
We call this cabin the Bear's Lair. There are 3 bedrooms in the main house, and in the Cub House, out back, there is another room with a working bathroom (in the summer only!). There are 2 full baths in the main house. There is a full kitchen and a dinette with seating for up to 8. There is a family room with separate gaming table. A large master with a king bed, a 2nd bedroom with a queen bed, and a bunk with 2 trundle beds (or a total of 4 single beds) allow for comfortable sleeping for many people. We offer cable tv and free wireless internet. There is a wood-burning stove with firewood provided.
IN THE SUMMER ONLY, $40/night extra:
In the Cub House out back there is a flat screen with DVD/VCR as well as a video game set up. We also have 2 futon chairs for additional sleeping. It has no heat in the winter but there is a fireplace heater out there for summer use. We also have an infra-red sauna out in the Cub House.
We live on a quiet street with many full time residents, just 1/4 mile from the beach, the shuttle to Homewood ski resort, PDQ Market and West Shore Pizza. 'Where We Met' offers homemade gourmet gelato and espresso/breakfast in the mornings. Our guests have access to our private homeowner's association beach with a dock and nice swimming area. A buoy can be made available.

About Jen de Loe
Our family bought this cabin over 30 years ago and has cherished it ever since. After many years of family vacations I lived there for 4 of the best of my life. My family moved from the Bay Area to Colorado in 2003, and we spend all year looking forward to our month-long trip to Tahoe every summer. It is our children's favorite place. We enjoy sharing this part of our family with others and love to hear how much they enjoy it as well.
Jen de Loe purchased this Cabin in 1982
Why Jen de Loe chose Tahoma
West Shore~Best Shore, they say, and with good reason! With easy access to skiing in the winter and all water recreation in the summer, the quiet West Shore has easy access to Tahoe City, Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows, but also offers a quick, beautiful drive to the South Shore in the summer. The whole basin is easily accessible from this side of the lake. We love hiking around Emerald Bay, exploring the granite bays of D L Bliss State Park and jumping from the big rocks, kayaking anywhere on the lake, and getting homemade gelato from Where We Met. PDQ sandwiches are something to experience, and bike riding into Tahoe City and along the Truckee River makes you have a big appetite for them! There is never enough time up there, and as we drive away each summer, we are already looking forward to our return.
What makes this Cabin unique
The Bear's Lair is a 1700 sq. ft. home with every comfort. The wood burning stove gets use all year round, the back deck is the perfect place for a barbecue, and the Cub House out back has an infrared sauna to enjoy after the physical 'labors' of the day. Our homeowners beach always has room for a lazy afternoon nap, and the view from the dock there is one of the most beautiful in the world. The smell of the pines and the whoosh of the wind in the tree tops stay with me all year.

Cozy Cabin Life Close To The Lake
Great for the price. Just as seen in the pics, we only had 6 adults and felt a bit "cozy" at times.
We were planing on enjoying the amazing deck and outdoor living but a freak snow storm in June made for a lot more cards and fireside chats inside. Nice quiet neighborhood, Walking distance to a now small beach (due to the crazy winter, resulting in one full lake), a short drive to west shore cafe and chambers landing. Both great spots for a drink or dinner.
Best Vacation House Ever!!!
From the moment we drove up to the home we saw Beauty! Inside more Beauty! Everything was taken care of and there was nothing additional we needed! The experience was wonderful!!! The location is perfect you are about 20 minutes from Tahoe City and about 30 minutes from South Lake Tahoe. My family and I said that we cannot wait to come back and rent this house again!!!
Perfect Tahoe cabin
I visited over the labor day weekend with my boyfriend and sister and her family. Jen was great in communicating everything needed for our arrival. The bathrooms and kitchen were updated and modern, but it still felt rustic and cozy in other parts of the house -- loved the wood burning fireplace! The outside area was also perfect -- lots of space to park two cars and we enjoyed sitting on the back porch and then using the fire pit in the evening for smores. Plus, it was close enough to the main road so it didn't feel like we were in a maze every time we left the property, but far enough back where it felt quiet and secluded. Overall, we had a great time and I hope it's available the next time we come to Tahoe!
Great home base for family adventure
We stayed here for a few nights to visit friends camping at DL Bliss State Park. The location and amenities were perfect for being close to the campsites, but not actually camping.
Modern, cozy, well-located cabin
We had a lovely stay at the Bear's Lair! Things we enjoyed most:
1) Great location mid-distance between Tahoe City and South Lake Tahoe nestled in a lovely, unpretentious cabin neighborhood, right off of Hwy 89. We were able to cross country ski in the nearby state park (just blocks away). And we had beach and pier access with gorgeous views via the neighborhood condo complex.
2) Cozy set up with modern comforts. The cabin is a cozy size, but not at all stifling per the other review. We were impressed with the updates in furniture and flooring not shown in pictures. All we needed was to pack our bags and grab groceries - everything else was all set for us ranging from linens, towels, soaps, every kitchen accessory one could need, board games etc. Also very helpful to have dish washer and laundry in the cabin. Excellent heat, hot water, wifi. Lots of natural light.
3) We were able to bring our dog, who was so happy to come enjoy the snow with us.
4) No need to pick up keys - convenient entry code system.
5) Friendly and helpful owner who was very accommodating and responsive.
We hope to return in the summer! Thanks for a great stay.
We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay, Kirsten! We look forward to your next stay.
Our stay at Bear's Lair was pleasant and the location suited us because of events we were attending at the nearby Sugar Pine Point camp ground. The home was smaller and more "rustic" than we anticipated based on the photos and cost but the owners were extremely helpful and easy to deal with.
Wonderful West Shore. Everything a family needs for a fun, quiet, peaceful vacation. Just a few minutes walk to our small HOA beach, PDQ Market, Sugar Pine Point Park, the Bear's Lair is located with convenient access to all of the wonders of the West Shore of Lake Tahoe.
