Overview

About the property

Suites sleep from 2 to 6 people.

Dewees Island is a private barrier island off the coast of Charleston that is dedicated to preservation. We are a quick ferry ride from all of Charleston's charms, yet the island is peaceful and serene. Dewees remains in a much more natural state than many ocean islands. At the same time, the island has a beautiful community pool. Great fishing, birding, and beaches. We travel by golf cart. And with no stores or restaurants, Dewees is a magical escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life!

The Huyler House Suites are all conveniently located near the pool, tennis courts, and clubhouse with gameroom. Sweetgrass sleeps 2, and is like a conventional hotel room with a queen bed and kitchenette. Sea Oats is the largest, and sleeps 6-- with one king size bedroom, a loft with two twins, and a sleeper sofa on the first floor. There is a full kitchen with breakfast bar. Spartina and Foxtail each sleep four-- one queen bed and one queen sleeper sofa. Foxtail is dog-friendly. The attached clubhouse has a pool, tennis, ping-pong, a big screened porch, ice machine, pool table, and more!

People often want to know there is to do on the island. There is a lot to do in every season: pool, tennis, basketball, kayaking, canoeing, nature center, environmental programs, beach activities (swimming, walking, riding bikes (bike required), shelling, exploring, bodysurfing, fishing, crabbing, shrimping, walking, game room (foosball, darts, tabletop shuffle board), and birding. Also there are lots of stores, restaurants and additional things to do within 1, 5, 10 and 20 minutes of the Dewees ferry marina on the Isle of Palms. Enjoy our private beach with quick access to town.

Dewees Island is a unique vacation experience. The ferry ride is a beautiful 20 minute ride from the Isle of Palms. You may see wildlife like dolphins, oystercatchers, and eagles along the ride. With no stores or paved roads, Dewees will take you back to a simpler time of enjoying quiet time with your family and friends. There is a lot to do in every season: fishing, kayaking, bodysurfing, sunbathing, birdwatching, crabbing, clamming, and biking. There is a nature center where you can learn about the island's environment and creatures, and a game room with table shuffleball, foosball, and pool near the tennis courts and swimming pool.

Check In: 4:00 ferry. Arrive at ferry 46 41st Avenue BY 3:30. Ferry leaves promptly on the hour.

Check Out: 10:30 ferry. Arrive at Dewees dock BY 10:10am. Ferry leaves promptly on the 1/2 hour.

About Emily

Emily and Stewart are the proud owners of Dewees Rentals, aka Watson Property Management Group. They are committed to helping residents and guests navigate the tricky balance of living (and vacationing) gently on a barrier island. Emily helped build Dewees Rentals from scratch starting in 2009, and she and Stewart took over ownership in 2014. She manages reservations, interns, and rental homes from her office in Mount Pleasant. With a background in teaching, Emily never dreamed that she would someday own a vacation rental company! When asked why she does what she does she states, "I love connecting with owners and guests alike! There's nothing more gratifying than witnessing guests arriving in one state of mind (coming from their successful and busy lives) and leaving feeling more grounded and at peace with nature."  She also keeps tabs on their two curious and energetic kids and large dog. In her spare time, Emily loves cooking, design, music, and yoga. She blogs about healthy recipes and the whirlwind of today's parenting at LittleBabyWatson.com. Stewart is the partner you're more likely to see on the island. With a background in construction, he is better known to be rescuing someone from a tricky golf cart situation or taking on a repair. Between the two of them, there's no stone left unturned on Dewees!

Great getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I used to come to Dewees with our kids and now that they have grown up we stay at the Huyler House. These are great suites that are right by the pool and by a look out deck that is great for looking for birds. We love being able to rent a suite for just the two of us, and then a house for when our kids are able to visit!

OUR FAVORITE PLACE TO STAY!!!

  • 5 of 5

The Huyler House Suites are my family's favorite place to stay on Dewees Island. We have a family of two adults and two children so the HH Suites are the perfect size for our family. My children like being close to the pool, tennis courts, ping pong table and other club house amenities. The ice machine is also located at the Huyler House which is super convenient! The Huyler House is centrally located on the island so it is easy to get to any part of the island from the HH Suites. As for Dewees Island, it is truly the best place on earth with beautiful beaches and marshes. Dewees is a place where one can truly unwind and relax!

Great Isolated Vacation Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This was the 5th trip to the Island for my wife and I, and 3rd for our two young children. We love being able to spend quality time with the kids without a lot of distractions. Wether its spending the day on a completely empty beach, fishing, crabbing or just exploring the island, everyone has a blast. The Huyler House Suites have everything you need and are perfect for the 4 of us. Emily and her two interns were extremely helpful! We can't wait to go back!

Wonderful getaway place -very private

  • 5 of 5

This was our second trip to Dewees and we started planning for next year before we left on the ferry. We fished, walked the beaches, boiled up some crabs we caught and wandered around almost by ourselves for 3 wonderful days. Even with knowing there were other people on the island, we barely saw 5 people the whole time here. Planning is necessary for few ferry trips with supplies but so worth it.

The Perfect Get-away!

  • 5 of 5

My husband surprised me with a weekend get-away to Dewee's Island for my birthday and he couldn't have come up with a better birthday gift. I had actually never heard of it, but after reading all about it and seeing all the pics and reviews, I was SO excited! And the time we spent there def. didn't disappoint. To begin with, Emily was who my husband dealt with in planning it all, and she was awesome! (I even emailed her a few times with a few questions I had) She was so organized, detailed and quick to respond back and answer all our questions. She made sure we were well prepared and informed with everything we needed to know for our weekend. The ferry ride over was not a problem at all- they left on schedule and we headed over. When we got to the dock, the golf carts were all lined up, and there were signs on each for people to claim. We packed up our golf cart and headed out. We stayed in one of the rooms at the Huyler house and it was perfect. Nothing fancy, but very clean & well taken care of and just what you would need! (bonus, it has a nicely equipped kitchen for your cooking needs and large fridge! Even a coffee pot too! :) We spent the entire day driving around the island, exploring and enjoying ourselves. We spent time on the beautiful beach (felt like we had the beach to ourselves actually) and even came back at night (short walk from the Huyler House which is awesome!) to lay on our beach towels and just listen to the ocean/nature and see the skys! (It's BEAUTIFUL!) We tried to not leave any path/trail/road unseen...and it was just SO fun! Seeing all the gorgeous houses on the island, finding small random piers leading out to small marshes, seeing all the beautiful wildlife (we saw gators, deer, birds, dolphins...the list is endless) We went out to the little pier/"house" right by the Huyler House out in the marsh at sunset and sat in there to watch that! We had brought all our groceries for dinner so we just cooked a nice dinner in our room and sat on the porch and enjoyed that. Even walked down to the pool for a bit, which was a nice option. It was just such a relaxing, perfect time that we got to share together. (and basically, we felt like it was just us 2 on the whole island- we maybe saw 3 people the whole time) We still talk about it & look at our pics and say how great it was! I recommend it for anyone for a nice get-away! You won't be disappointed!

Huyler House Suite - Perfect size, location, and amenities!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent a fabulous one-week vacation on Dewees and stayed in the Huyler House "Sea Oats" Suite. The suite was spacious, comfortable, quiet, and well-provisioned with your most-used kitchen utensils. We really liked the private large upstairs bedroom with the study just outside. Wonderful location and light and airy! Being only steps away from the main building made it easy and convenient to watch TV, just browse the library, or simply enjoy the huge open space and decks. The Huyler House accommodations, particularly this suite, is infinitely preferable to any hotel room/suite. And, you are steps away from one of the most fantastic secluded beaches and island on the eastern seaboard!
