Cute house ideal for a short trip to Shenadoah National Park

  • 5 of 5

We were seven people and rented this house for a weekend getaway to explore the national park. We were completely happy with what we got! From the description and the other reviews I expected a much smaller house, but it was completely fine for seven people. Each of us had their own bed, the rooms themselves weren't that small (they worked well for 2 people each), and there were enough sofas, chairs and towels for everybody. The stairs to the upper floor is pretty steep, but if you're a group of people who has working legs that shouldn't be a problem.

The communication with the property owner also worked very smoothly and super fast. We had to arrive later than the proposed check-in time and they were very accommodating. And when we had a problem with one of the bathrooms one morning they replied to our email immediately and helped us out within the hour.

If there was one thing to criticize, I'd say the garden furniture on the veranda was pretty weathered and old, and not very useful in the state it is right now. We weren't too bothered by it because we didn't use it in our short time there. But for longer stays, that might be a bit inconvenient.

But all in all, I'd definitely book it again. It's a very cute old house with lots of character in nice surroundings (check out the cool observation decks over Shenadoah River at night!)

skymont-not what's it's cracked up to be

  • 1 of 5

Though we loved the area, this rental is in desperate need of some care. The screened in porch was great, but had not been cleaned in quite some time. The kitchen had pathetic supplies and things were falling apart! The stairs to 2 of the bedrooms were so steep my dogs could not even make it up them. The property could be beautiful if they actually took care of it. The river overlooks sound great but are so aweful looking who would want to hang out there. Not impressed at all!

Owner's Response: Hi Tricia - First I'd like to say that I'm sorry the cottage did not meet your expectations. As with all our properties we have the guest fill out a rental agreement. In the agreement we ask that if the guest finds anything wrong with the property that they notify us right away so we can fix it. If we had known the screened porch had not been cleaned we would have sent housekeeping out right away to re-clean the unit. As well we would have brought you any kitchen supplies you needed. You are correct that the kitchen cabinets needed repair and we have contracted to have them replaced since your visit. The cottage was built in the late 1800's and we agree the stairs are steep, that's the way many homes of that era were constructed. We try to keep the overlooks rustic so as to preserve the rustic nature of the property and many guests really enjoy the decks and there view. Again, I would like to apologize that the property didn't meet your expectations, but if we were notified we would have done what ever was needed to make your stay more pleasant.

Beautiful Scenery/Clean Cabin/Love the outdoor fire pits

  • 4 of 5

Had a great weekend at this cabin. it was great to have so many rooms for sleeping options. Great to be able to take 2 small dogs. Loved the grounds and the scenery with the overlook was incredible. The gentleman who worked with us and took the reservation such last minute was very accommodating. I'm just sorry that it took us 4 years of my daughter going to Liberty to find a half way point so perfect...Thanks for a great location, a clean cabin and accepting pets..It was perfect for our weekend meeting place!!!!

Shenandoah cabin

  • 3 of 5

Our 2 day stay at this cabin was good. We had a terrible time finding it, as we arrived in the dark and a pouring rain storm. Took us several hours going back and forth on the highway looking for the poorly lite drive. There were no signs as guideposts for us. Once we arrived, we were happy to see this cozy cabin. It was strangely configured with several small rooms on the main floor and a tiny living room area. The kitchen was well equipped, however we had to buy soap for the dishes and the clothes washer. We enjoyed the scrapbook and photos that the owner had left for us showing that we were in a former boys camp from the early 1930s. We loved our canoe trip down the Shenandoah river.
