About the property

Beautiful 2BDR/2BA Historic Home in Downtown Wilmington, NC

Perfect for a grown-up getaway! Enjoy an authentic downtown experience in this charming 1890’s Victorian cottage. You will be amazed how quickly you can slip into the relaxed vibe and easy going pace of life here. Ideally located in the heart of the historic district and featured on the carriage tour, this 2 Bdr/2 Ba lovingly restored home is just 1½ blocks from the Riverwalk, and an easy walk to all the shops and restaurants of our fabulous Port City.

Inside you will find everything you need to feel right at home, or better yet, on vacation! The house has Wi-Fi throughout and features a lovely front parlor with fireplace, a comfy den with 42” HDTV, sunny dining room, fully-stocked kitchen with gas stove, and 2 cozy bedrooms. One has a queen bed with pillow-top mattress and en-suite bath w/ shower tub. The other, a double bed and writing desk. There is also a second full bathroom. Feel free to travel light: beach towels, chairs, picnic cooler, and coozies are provided for you to take to Wrightsville Beach-- just a 15 minute drive away. Or head to Carolina & Kure Beaches on your way to explore Ft. Fisher 30 minutes down the road along the Cape Fear River.

While the house is not wheelchair accessible, it is a great choice for travelers who have mobility issues. It is one story and has only 3 shallow steps at the entryway. There are also ceiling fans in each of the bedrooms along with central A/C to ensure you stay comfortable on those balmy Carolina nights. The quiet of this particular street is a welcome surprise to almost everyone who comes here-- typically only the sound of horses clopping by or a passing neighbor saying hello that risk disrupting your afternoon snooze on the porch. And rest assured that after dark you would never know a vibrant night life is underway just a few blocks away.

About The Owner

I was fortunate enough to move to Wilmington over 13 years ago thanks to my career in coastal management. I absolutely loved living there, and have really enjoyed renovating the house over the years (a never-ending process!) Recently, I began a new chapter in Vienna, Austria, which keeps me away from Wilmington much of the year. One of the most surprising aspects about renting my home to holiday makers is coming back and knowing it's been filled with happy memories by guests who've enjoyed it in my absence. Reading the guestbook is one of the first things I do when I get home!

I also love to travel, and am delighted to be part of creating a memorable travel experience for guests. Inside you will find lots of attention to detail to ensure your visit is relaxed, cozy, and comfortable. The property manager lives right around the corner and the two of us take great pride in making sure you have a lovely stay.

Why The Owner chose Wilmington

I got lucky: Wilmington chose me. The vibe here is like no other, and this particular location downtown is hard to beat. It's so laid back and friendly. It's a place where not saying 'hey' to people you pass on the street borders on offensive. Hopefully after your first visit, you will understand what keeps bringing me back-- and will bring you back again too.

What makes this house unique

So close to everything! Once you get a good feel for downtown, you'll see each little street has it's own unique personality. Not only is this one perfectly tucked between the Riverwalk and the Antique District, but the beautiful old Magnolia & Live Oaks, brick streets, and fantastic neighbors make it a very special place.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for welcoming us into your charming and most relaxing retreat! We have stayed in several cottage rentals throughout the States and in the UK and Ellis Cottage ranks high above all of the others....The beautifully decorated cottage has clearly been cared for and the needs of the client fully met in both functionality and aesthetics. We look forward to many more memorable times to come!

Fabulous cottage, excellent location- a perfect weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our process of booking this cottage for the long weekend all the way through the end of the vacation was extremely smooth. The owner is very kind, very responsive and ensured that we had the most comfortable stay. We were a party of 4, visiting Wilmington for the first time. She also gave us restaurant suggestions, places to visit- we took heed and we were glad! It is a wonderful town and the cottage is in the perfect location. You can walk to downtown and river-walk. Every place was in just 5-10 minutes drive. Highly recommend this cottage. We will definitely book the same again next time. :) Thank you so much!

My sisters and I recently chose Ellis Cottage as our annual getaway and we could not have been more pleased. The owner was wonderful to work with, the cottage "charm" endearing, the accommodations exceptional, and the location perfect (don't even get me started on how comfortable the beds were)! We literally parked our cars out front and never got back into them until it was unfortunately time to leave. We spent many hours on the porch with the hint of jasmine wafting through the air. We would highly recommend Ellis Cottage....thank you for being so kind.

My sister and I reserved Ellis Cottage to celebrate her retirement. My two nieces also surprised me with a visit - it was the best girls's weekend, filled with lots of laughs and great memories of the Azalea festival! I can't think of one thing that wasn't perfect about Ellis Cottage! It was convenient to downtown fun and the house was stocked with everything we needed. The owner and property manager are the perfect hosts for welcoming renters into the home. We look forward to visiting again in the future!

Simply Charming

  • 5 of 5

Pictures do not do justice! This is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the beautiful historic district of Wilmington. Conveniently located within a couple of blocks to the Riverfront. What little time we were able to spend at the home was very relaxing, as we loved sitting on the front porch unwinding from our wedding events weekend. We would definitely stay here again.

Quaint, comfortable, clean and close to Downtown/Riverfront dining and entertainment

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our 4 nights at Ellis Cottage. The neighborhood was quiet, the beds were comfortable and our parking spot on the street in front of the house was always there for us no matter what time we came in - amazing! The front porch provided welcome refuge and relaxation after a long day of house hunting. I would stay here again.
