A Superior Cottage is the perfect place for your next vacation. The cottage is located on 300’ of private golden sand beach on Big Traverse Bay, Lake Superior. An ideal spot for a relaxing, peaceful vacation surrounded by nature set in a mature pine forest on the best beach in the Keweenaw.
Wake up to beautiful sunrises over panoramic views of Lake Superior and the Keweenaw mountains from your window. The sound of the waves gently breaking on the beach and breeze in the pines completes your morning. Then head to the beach to enjoy the day. A great beach for children of all ages the soft sand is over 100’ deep and gently meets the shore with shallow clear sparkling water to swim and play in.
In the afternoon take a walk down the beach to the Sandstone bluff and watch for the Bald Eagles that nest on the point. If you enjoy boating and water sports there is a launch and harbor just over a mile down the beach, and 2 miles away is an inland lake full of Northern Pike and Walleye for the angler in your group. We also provide a sea kayak to explore the shoreline of this beach paradise.
As the sunsets through the pines enjoy a campfire on the beach and watch the stars come out. The Keweenaw night sky is dark and clear with amazing stargazing and the occasional Northern Light show. Finally, relax and enjoy an authentic wood burning sauna and a midnight dip into Superior.
The cottage has views of Lake Superior from the living room and Master bedroom and comfortably sleeps six. The master bedroom includes a comfortable full size bed with views of the lake and Louis Point bluff. The second bedroom has a full size bed with a single bunk bed and another single bed with views of the lake and pines. The kitchen is fully equipped and stocked with basic spices and condiments, with a dining table for six. The cottage is heated by a wood stove to keep it cozy early and late in the season. The full bath includes a shower and all linens and towels are provided. A deck and stone patio have a gas grill, picnic table and chairs to eat al fresco and enjoy the scenery. Finally, enjoy the large wood-burning sauna. The sauna can fit six adults comfortably with an attached changing room, which also stores the beach accessories.
The Keweenaw and copper country offer something for everyone (see links below). For the outdoors enthusiast there are many great hiking trails with spectacular views and seasonal birding opportunities. Copper Harbor offers world-class mountain biking or play golf at one of four local courses. Nearby Calumet hosts the Keweenaw National Historic Park that tells the story of the great copper mines from our past, several mines are still open for visitors. There is a vibrant arts community including the Pine Mountain Music Festival and performances at Rosza Center on Michigan Techs’ campus and the historic Calumet Theatre. Great dining opportunities abound throughout the copper country combing excellent food and views for your enjoyment.
