We stayed here in Feb/Mar 2016 and it was a perfect spot for us. The condo was perfect for 2 people. The only negative I would say is that there is no dvd/blueray player or any kind of sound system for music and there is no table inside to play a game in the evenings. Otherwise this condo is great. Beautiful finishing on the updates and the kitchen really lacked nothing. We were only 2 and I cant see anymore than that there though as it would feel crowded. The living room does have a hide abed (which is a very comfy couch ...most hide abed couches are stiff and uncomfortable...not this one) so you could have 2 more people if you don't mind your living room becoming a bedroom every night. The pool and bbq area are very nice at this complex.
The unit was clean and well equipped, steps from the pool where there was a large lending library. There was not immediate beach access but there were beaches close by. We especially enjoyed Hapuna Beach for swimming, located North of the airport. The condo was close to the farmers market, not far from the central Kona shopping district. We enjoyed our stay and would return.
Condo beautifully remodeled. Excellent kitchen and bath. Big TVs in bedroom and living room. Extremely comfortable bed. Close to everything. Quiet.
Really nice 1 bedroom condo. The kitchen, bathroom and bamboo floors were especially lovely. Wonderful lanai with a sliver of ocean visible. Lots of foliage around and visiting geckos. Spacious and quiet (except for the early morning birds!) Very clean. The only things missing from the condo: a garlic press and a drying rack would be great - all that swimming. Though I've never seen a drying rack in any condo I've stayed at in Hawaii - this would be a good thing to add. Great location. The pool is great, too.
Hale Kala is in a great location, close the action in Kailua and yet quiet and secluded. The updates to the condo are beautiful and very comfortable. It felt like home right away. The kitchen is exceptionally well appointed which was great since we enjoyed cooking in many nights - taking advantage of the local fresh seafood, fruit and vegetables. Would love to head back tomorrow!
Wow! We were very lucky to be the first guests in the newly renovated Hale Kala. Everything was beautiful and luxurious - the bathroom felt like a spa, the kitchen was top notch with a sleek design and new appliances, the bedroom was tranquil and relaxing. Definitely a great place to stay in Kona - close to everything with great amenities. Wifi, laundry, linens and towels, pool, etc. - perfect for a getaway for two.
Lanette was great to deal with and prompty responded to any questions we had. We were impressed with her demeanor as well as her place - it met the description and pictures posted, and was nearby downtown Kona as well as a number of beaches. Definitely recommend a car rental for anyone staying on the Big Island as there is so much to see and do in various areas. We enjoyed discovering some of the hidden beaches in Big Island Revealed, snorkeling in many good spots (Honaunau Bay was our favourite), snorkeling/diving with Manta Rays (Big Island Divers were great), surfing at Kahlu'u, and enjoying some of the nearby restaurants. There is a Costco nearby for grocery shopping for those staying longer and wanting to cook for themselves as well as re-fill the rental car before leaving.
We never get tired of seeing Kilauea Crater in Volcano. There is nothing like seeing a live Volcano in person! Make sure you give yourself a full day for this excursion and bring a hoodie or light jacket. It can always rain and is usually cooler at Volcano National Park.
We recommend the FairWinds Snorkel Morning Excursion from Keahou Bay to Kealakekua Bay or Captain Cook. It's a first class operation and great for all levels of water sport activist from beginner to experienced divers! and a very family friendly!
A closer, to our condo, snorkel excursion is just South down Alii Drive at Kahaluu Snorkel Beach. It's rocky so take your time and maybe water booties, but the variety of tropical fish is terrific and it is a safe area with Lifeguards and old Hawaiian Wall that acts as a barrier for easier snorkeling and a great time!
