About Andrew Owen

I grew up spending summers in the area and my family eventually moved here in the 1980s. I had always been looking for a place of my own and when I came across Sweetbrier I decided this was it. I love the proximity to town, and being close to the ocean.

Andrew Owen purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Andrew Owen chose Southern Coast

Development of Cape Arundel as a Summer Colony began in the late 1800 by a group called the Kennebunkport Seashore Company. They envisioned parks, hotels and recreational areas to attract vacationers from the Boston area. Sweetbrier Cottage was one of the early summer cottages built in the traditional Victorian Shingle Style that was so popular at that time. The unique architectural elements of the house and simple lines characteristic of the shingle style are appealing inside and out.

What makes this cottage unique

Stepping inside the rooms with exposed beams and lengthy spans is a bit like stepping back in time. The house is situated perfectly to catch the cool southwest breezes. The wraparound front porch is ideal to sit, relax and take in the sounds of distant foghorns and the smell of the ocean. With the fully updated kitchen you truly get the comforts of today while reliving what it must have been like 100 years ago on vacation along Maine's southern coast.

Met & exceeded expectations

  • 5 of 5

My extended family was traveling to Kennebunkport for a wedding and 10 of us decided we could survive the weekend under one roof together. The Victorian Summer Cottage not only provided each of us comfortable sleeping accomodations, but also afforded space, location and charm to truly enjoy our trip together. We walked from the cottage to Ocean Ave each morning together, strolled a mere 5-10min for the most delicious & fresh full lobsters we've ever had and made multiple, easy trips into town each day. But perhaps the most amazing feat- 10 of us got ready under one roof for a wedding no less and never tripped over one another or had a moment of anxiety. The owner clearly takes pride in their property as you can see from the on going updates & restorations that retain its original 19th century charm. The weekend was one of the most memorable our family has had traveling with so many of us together and the cottage was an integral part!

A perfect week in Maine!

  • 5 of 5

This was my families' first stay in Kennebunkport. We enjoyed the area and the house was fantastic! The location was perfect, the neighborhood was great for walking and the beach was very close. Everyone had a great time. We plan to return again to explore the area even more.

Great time with family

  • 5 of 5

First, Andrew was great to work with. We had a minor maintenance issue and he addressed it immediately. Communication, before, during and after was prompt.

Second, the location was perfect for us. You aren't paying for ocean front, but we were only a couple of gorgeous blocks away to Ocean Ave, The Colony Hotel, a quiet rocky beach and the Bush compound. We went for walks at night just through the neighborhood or to dinner and nobody complained. In addition, we all walked to the town center which was about 30 casual minutes which provided an activity we could all enjoy.

Third, the house worked out great. We had an anniversary party and comfortably fit 14 people in the living room and dining room. The house is an historic, recently updated, Maine cottage. With that comes some quirks like no a/c (slept with windows open and fan on which was fantastic) and some slants on the floor (kids thought it was awesome) but everything worked out great for us. Enjoyed just sitting on the front portch and talking. Neighbors were all very friendly. The house was extremely clean. By the time we left we wished we could stay longer.

Great property and location!

  • 5 of 5

My family spent the last two weeks of June at this property and had an excellent time.

The location of the property is ideal - a minute walk to the Colony Hotel and Ocean Drive.

The owner is very nice and responsive - Andrew was very easy to reach and very nice.

The house was clean and looked just like the pictures.

All and all great two week stay and we would certainly return to this property.

Great Historic Maine home

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of 10 that stayed here back in early October for a wedding down the road at the Nonantam. The home worked out perfectly - very cozy with a historic New England feel and very spacious (enough room for the 10 of us to get ready for a wedding with no issue). The kitchen was nicely remodeled right off the sun room making for a great hangout spot. The location was great being on a very quiet street and the Nonantam was an easy 7 minute walk. Walking downtown probably took about 20 minutes, which was fine for us. I personally didn't go to the beach, but others in the group said it was a "quick walk."

Andrew was awesome to work with and extremely accommodating. He was very helpful and super responsive to emails as well as refunding the security deposit.

Great overall experience!
