Awesome NYC Lakefront Rustic 1940 Log Cabin Getaway

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,200 sq. ft.
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 5 nights

About the property

Lake-Front Log Cabin (c 1940)

Just 50 miles northwest of New York City, this log cabin situated on Pinecliff Lake, on the NJ/NY state border, was built in 1940 and fully restored in 2008. Two bedrooms on the main floor sleeps 1-4 exceptionally comfortably. Outdoor deck with round table and benches as well as additional Adirondack seating; cantilvered deck over the lake; great place to sit and read, or simply soak up the sun. Deck also features a terra cotta chimnea (fire pitt), which is great for cool nights, sipping a glass of wine (or cocktail of choice!) and watching the sunlight slowly dip behind the mountain.

If you're looking for a place to unwind from the hustle and bustle, quiet nights (and days), this is the place.

About Dennis Constantine

After living and working in New York City for the past 20+ years, I decided I wanted a place to escape to on the weekends; a laid back place with little-to-no-stress. A friend called me one day in May 2007, from the cell phone saying he just drove by this great log cabin, for sale; has 'your name all over it.' So I asked him to send me a pic from his iPhone and the next I know, I'm in contract to buy the cabin. Funny how these things happen.

Dennis Constantine purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Dennis Constantine chose West Milford

If you're looking for a peaceful, serene, cozy, get-away-from-the-hustle-and-bustle-of-New-York-City-kind-of-place, in less than 90 minutes of travel time ... this is the place for you. Once here and settled, you will forget you are only 50 miles away from New York City.

What makes this cabin unique

Beautiful Adirondack-appointed log cabin, fully renovated with all the amenities of today (WIFI, flat-screen TV, stereo surround sound).

Like upstate but a quick drive away

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is everything described in the owner's write-up and by most reviewers. The home is clean and cozy. Once outside you are aware that neighbor homes are close by and you're not in the middle of nowhere, but it is a small trade off. The bottom line with this cabin is that it feels very much like a cozy Adirondacks lake house without the six-hour drive! I would return and recommend the cabin to anyone looking for a clean, well-maintained, easy getaway destination.

Peaceful and Comfortable Stay

  • 5 of 5

The log cabin is very charming, with appropriate furnishings and a stone fireplace that make you feel as though you're in the Adirondacks. The kitchen is well stocked but small, but we had no trouble making our meals here. The only thing that didn't really work for us was the seemed to be clogged up but we managed without it. The bathroom is especially nice and the master bedroom was very roomy.

The owner is very helpful and extremely organized. Everything was clearly explained and all inquiries were answered right away. The neighborhood was very quiet and it felt private. Shopping (and pizza) are just a few minutes away...very convenient! My family loved kayaking off the front of the cabin and swimming at the beach club.

I would highly recommend this cottage for a relaxing getaway.

Super Lake Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Super cabin - great location. The lake is small but very pretty and the cabin sits on a great waterfront. The owner takes great pride in the house and the property. All you need is provided. Wish we could be there in the summer with all the flowers and the garden in bloom. The owner is a pleasure to work with!! You won't be sorry if you rent this spot.

Perfect Lake Cabin Getaway

  • 5 of 5

To start the host is incredibly kind, helpful, quick to respond and incredibly accomodating. Any questions he is happy to answer and also provide help and direction on the amazing things to do in the area. He is a pleasure to speak to and always friendly and positive.

It was easy to find the house and through the careful written instructions enter the home to start our 5 week holiday at this relaxing lake and amazing cabin. The landscaping around the home is beautiful and brings hummingbirds and butterflies around for the most spectacular pictures. It also creates wonderful privacy from the neighbors (though they are also very kind and incredibly quiet).

The home is just perfect. I love the interior design and the bookshelves had great selections. The layout makes it easy to manuever around the home. And having a washer and dryer ended up being a godsend. The inside just makes you feel like you are at the lake and gets you ready to relax.

We chose this home due to the lake. It was fantastic swimming it. I must have swum at least an hour a day. It was just so refreshing, and when not in the lake we relaxed on the dock in front of the chimnea.

Finally, the location. For us this was perfect. Forgot the lime? No problem the Shop Rite is literally 3 minutes away. Need another bottle of Pinot Grigio? The local wine store is right next to ShopRite. Got there late on a Friday and don't want to cook? Cool, multiple places deliver, or go to one of the 6 restaurants within a 6 minute drive for pick up or to eat there (50s diner, mexican, chinese, italian, and american). Not to mention 2 drugstores also within 4 minutes. This was important because it meant we weren't wasting time running around for items that were forgotten or needed at the last minute. Instead we got to spend our time at the lake. But although everything was close - the cabin feels worlds away.

We will be repeat visitors!

I would say that this is probably best for couples, maybe families. This is a nice, relaxing quiet lake. Don't expect to invite all your buddies for a rager because you will stick out like a sore thumb. The people here are kind, calm, friendly and quiet. It is the most tranquil place.

Owner's Response: I rarely do long-term rentals for worry about wear-and-tear on the cabin; so I was a bit apprehensive to go through with this reservation. The email exchanges between myself and this guest were comfortable and so I went ahead and booked the long-term reservation. It was if no one was here. The place was left in spotless condition - just as when they arrived. It was a pleasure from start to finish, and I was especially happy that everyone enjoyed the cabin (and lake). Great guests. Great experience! And a big thanks!

Clean but Beware of the festival

  • 3 of 5

The cabin itself is well kept and very clean. Owner provides very thorough information about things to do and see in the area. My only advice is BEWARE OF THE TIMING OF YOUR TRIP. The town has an annual " Autumn lights festival " unless you like lots of noise and having the local roads closed due to traffic and or being shut down for the festival, avoid this weekend like the plague. You literately will NOT be able to leave the Cabin to get lunch / dinner until late at night. The festival is also right on the other side of the lake so the noise carries right over to your quiet cabin get away
