A Place To Gather

Less than .5 mile from the Embarcadero, you are in the heart of downtown Morro Bay. Take an evening stroll to your favorite fish 'n chips restaurant or to watch the otters play.

This bright and cheerful home boasts of everything that vacations are meant to be. A large garage welcomes *2 vehicles for your stay while the bench seat and long wall rack are ready to hold plenty of wet beach towels and store lots of sandy flip flops.

This is a two story home with the first 2 bedrooms located up a short flight of stairs. The Cayucos bedroom has a queen bed with a NovaForm mattress. Also in this room are a toddler bed and comfortable chair for holding little ones before they fall asleep. The Montana de Oro bedroom has a queen bed with a NovaForm mattress. On the walls of this room are pictures of nearby Montana de Oro beckoning you to take the short drive over there. These two bedrooms share their own bathroom with a shower/tub. The washer and dryer are located just across the hall.

Continuing up another short flight of stairs will bring you to the living room, dining room, kitchen, Master bedroom and bath. The Master bedroom has a king bed with a NovaForm mattress. The Master bedroom also has a twin over full bunk bed and children's sitting area. This room is stocked with a TV, DVD player, books, and movies to keep kids entertained on cool evenings. The master bathroom is extra large with a long counter and double sinks. The shower is also extra large with two shower heads and a corner seat.

The open kitchen has ample counter space and is fully equipped with pots and pans, dishes, a coffee maker, BBQ utensils, and whatever you will need to cook up some of the fresh produce you find at the local farmer's markets.

The living room has 2 full sized leather couches and an additional chair for relaxing in. There is a small desk/work space located in the living room. Just outside the living room is the balcony. The balcony has a bbq ready for some local ahi tuna or a bag of Grassy Bar oysters that you've picked up from Giovanni's Fish Market. There is seating for 4 guests to gather on the balcony.

The home is set up with WiFi and both TVs have Dish Satellite TV.

*Please note that we DO NOT have additional parking spaces beyond the 2 vehicle garage. Any additional vehicles must be parked outside of our housing community and not in front of our garage.

The Driftwood House is in the perfect location. Located only 1/2 mile from the Embarcadero it is a quick walk to fish 'n chips in the evening or to watch the otters play in the morning. The house itself is bright with windows and skylights while warm and comfortable. Open areas allow for everyone to be together or the kids can retreat to their own TV and play areas. The outside balcony is the perfect spot to throw on a sweatshirt and BBQ some oysters while the others play one of the many card or board games available.

Great home for families!

As described, the Driftwood House is amazing! There is a large, well equipped kitchen, dining, and living room area. Bedrooms are well appointed with very comfortable bedding. There is an extensive collection of board games for all ages, as well as toys and books for children. The only downside for us was that there was no on-site parking for guests, and elderly grandparents who lived in the area needed to be dropped off at the property while a younger family member went off site to park their car and return. The complex of condos where The Driftwood House is located is on a hill at a busy section of Main Street. Walking this hill was not possible for our elderly guests. Also, we were promised a $50 credit on our cleaning fee due to an inoperable clothes dryer. As of this writing, that promise has not been honored even though our Security Deposit was returned promptly. An inquiry to Erin questioning the promised credit has not received a response.

A lovely spacious home

This home was perfect for our needs. There were four adults and two small children. The home was equipped with almost everything we needed. The children especially appreciated all the toys and books that were provided. Location was good as it was close to the wharf and other attractions on the Central Coast.

We are attracted to Morro Bay as a quiet fishing village that we use as home base for all that the Central Coast has to offer. The Driftwood House is less than 1/2 mile from the Embarcadero where we walk for clam chowder and bbq'd oysters on the water. While in town we will often drive to the south side of the rock to visit the group of sea otters who float there wrapped in sea weed, then make our way down to the protected beach to catch small crabs, search out sea anemones and watch the waves crash high on the rock barrier that protects the harbor. If we have a few hours on our hands the Morro Bay golf course is a real treat. The large Monterey Cypress trees and stunning views of the ocean and estuary quickly dissolve the frustration of the game.

From Morro Bay we have countless areas and activities to choose from and the only difficulty is deciding where to go next. Often we will drive 5 minutes north on Hwy 1 to sunny Cayucos. After riding our boogie boards and making mermaids in the sand, we spoil ourselves with treats from the Candy Counter or Brown Butter Cookie Company. From Cayucos we can drive up to Moonstone Beach in Cambria to collect driftwood or continue on to San Simeon where the Elephant Seals and their pups put on quite a show!

If wine is something you enjoy, then you are only minutes away from the renowned Paso Robles wine country. Located between Cayucos and Cambria is Hwy 46 which boasts hundreds of wineries including ZinAlley and Opolo vineyards. Many hours could be spent visiting the tasting rooms and festivals constantly going on there.

One of the most spectacular areas of the Central Coast is Montana de Oro State Park which is only 9 miles south west of Morro Bay. This park has over 8,000 acres of rugged cliffs, secluded sandy beaches, coastal plains, canyons, streams, and hills. There are miles of hiking, biking, and equestrian trails. My family particularly enjoys the towering sand dunes which are perfect for running and rolling down and if you are willing to hike to them, the tide pools are excellent places to explore!

14 miles south of Morro Bay is the quaint town of San Luis Obispo. There are shops, Edna Valley wineries, and the Thursday night Farmer's Market for SLO staples of fun. While downtown be sure to grab a steak sandwich from Firestone Grill or F.McLintock's Saloon and eat like the locals do.

Just past San Luis Obispo are Avila, Shell, and Pismo beaches. Avila is a sure favorite for families with it's low surf, Sea Life Center, ice cream counters and a park. Our family makes sure to stop at the Avila Valley Barn for some fresh fruit, warm pies, hot corn-on-the-cob and to visit the array of animals that are on display there. Shell Beach is where we go for kayak and surfing adventures. Our kids enjoy playing at the Dinosaur Caves Park. And finally Pismo beach is where we go for beach volleyball, miles of sandy beach to walk along, and of course the world famous Splash Cafe! A buttery warm clam chowder bread bowl from Splash Cafe is unforgettable.
