About Tim Zimmermann

I am a writer, sailor, and cyclist, who loves spending time on the Chesapeake with my wife and two children.

Tim Zimmermann purchased this house in 1996

Why Tim Zimmermann chose Mayo

If you live in the Washington DC region and want to spend time on the water, there is no place more beautiful than the Chesapeake Bay. My family loves to fish, boat, swim, and crab, and a week (or even a weekend) relaxing at Bear Neck Creek House is the best getaway we can imagine.

What makes this house unique

I spent many years sailing the Chesapeake Bay, but when I first saw this house I knew I had to move there. The house is simple yet open, full of light, and comfortable. The access to the water is unbeatable, the open Chesapeake Bay is just around the corner, and the Rhode River just off the house opens up into a bay that offers everything from daysailing to quiet paddling. There is always something fun and interesting to do on the water, and ospreys and crabs to keep you company. What I especially love is the quiet of the sunrise, and the perfect light of the sunsets.

The property was absolutely AMAZING! Far more spacious & impressive than I'd even imagined it to be!

  • 5 of 5

Tim Zimmermann was extremely responsive to any questions I had for him. He offered to extend our stay to make things easier on us. It was my wedding weekend, so things were a bit hectic to say the least. But the stress was lifted in that house which provided so much needed rest and relaxation. I'm so grateful to have stayed in this amazing retreat! My husband caught crabs off the dock with our son and we got to lazily enjoy them on a beautiful patio the night before our departure. I would recommend this house to anyone who wanted to enjoy themselves and have a relaxing time away.

Great little place for a weekend getaway

  • 4 of 5

Tim was a great host. Was very responsive throughout the process. We had to reschedule due to a last minute emergency and the Tim was gracious enough to work with us and find another date for the vacation. The only challenge we had was finding the right structure since we arrived late and it was too dark to differentiate between the Pool house and the house. The "rug" in the living room was a bit tricky since it was quite slippery. We just folded it away to avoid accidents. The house has a great collection of books. So, if you are looking to curl up with books this is a great house.

Lots of family fun

  • 5 of 5

The location of the property was ideal. The in-ground pool was a nice size and the dock for kayaking was great. 20 minutes from Annapolis. My family thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was a little dated, but we felt at home. Plenty of space for everyone.

Nice Waterfront location

  • 4 of 5

Very nice waterfront location. the house is a little dated but very spacious and homey. very nice deck with an amazing view. the pool is located on the other side of the house and is kind of detached. the pool house has 2 queen size beds in a large open space with very bad air conditioning. there are 3 bedrooms, sleeping 6 in the house and 2 queen beds for 4 in the detached pool house.

Owner's Response: I'm sorry if the air conditioning in the pool house was not sufficient. There are two window units that can be adjusted as desired and are usually more than capable of chilling the space right down. I will look into making sure they are working properly, so thanks for mentioning.

Waterfront Family Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Our family is spread, literally, across the country. This was a great place for all of us to be in one place and celebrate being together. We BBQ'd, had home cooked meals from Ma and tried our hand at crabbing (that is a whole video of what could go wrong we could post separately). I think everyone took a turn in the kayaks and some braved the lake with all the watercraft. I do believe the pool was our most favorite part of the property.

This house is exactly as described/pictured. It is not the newest house on the block. Probably not the biggest. But it was all we could have hoped for in a vacation get-away. Tim was great with any and all questions (even though I found out later he was traveling at the time). I have to say the air conditioning was a blessing and it was super effective.

Thank you again for allowing us a place to take a break in our daily lives to just hang out and enjoy life.
