Cozy Massanutten Cottage - Reasonable Rates, Great Family Get-Away

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 7)

Fantastic house for a family or two to enjoy the area. Our resort is great for tons of family fun. From hiking, bicycling, and fishing, to golfing, high ropes adventures, and indoor water park fun. Come and enjoying the outdoors. Our house is within walking distance to a park for kids, complete with a sweet little fishing pond.

Summertime offers chairlift rides, zip line tours, frisbee golf, fling golf (super fun), fantastic hiking, world-class mountain biking, golf, motorcycle touring, children's programs, canoeing and tubing trips on the Shenandoah River, and more.

The cottage is located at Massanutten Resort near Harrisonburg, Virginia. It has both easy access to the ski area and to the water park. We have wireless internet access and a computer for guest use. We are happy to advise you about our favorite local things to do including restaurants, outdoor activities, and shopping.

Check out our Facebook page (link below) for more pictures and updates. Add your own comments for local things to do!

Massanutten Cottage has three bedrooms and two full baths. Upstairs, there is a queen-size bed in one bedroom with a small couch. In the other upstairs bedroom is a full-size bed with a full-sized futon. The downstairs bedroom has a queen.

The cottage has a full kitchen and all the pans and utensils that you may require. A large combined dining and living area makes for a comfortable area for all to relax. The house is equipped with 3 cable televisions (living room, upstairs queen room, downstairs bedroom) and a DVD player (living room). We have 2 electric wood stoves (with flame effects). One is in the fireplace that adds to the ambiance and keeps the room toasty warm. The other is in the downstairs bedroom. We don't allow real fires in the fireplace anymore. The house is immaculate and very comfortable.

Our guests have truly enjoyed the use of our hot tub. A 4 person hot tub graces our back porch overlooking the woods. It is great for unwinding after a cold winter day or a day of hiking or biking. Please note that there are quiet hours posted for the hot tub, as we have full time neighbors.

We have had great feedback from our previous guests and enjoy opening our comfortable vacation home to others when we are not using it. We are able to be a little bit more choosy about our renters because of our reputation. We prefer renters that enjoy and respect the quiet neighborhood in which our house is located. We do not condone the use of our house for parties and raucous gatherings. We also prefer that our guests have no more than three cars in the driveway. We hope that you will enjoy the cottage as much as our family and repeat guests do.

Please bring your own linens or ask for rental of ours for an additional $50 (no laundering required).

About Amanda Brookman

We are the Brookmans. We have two grown children and a Kindergartener between us! All of us love our time at Massanutten, and we get there as often as possible. Our permanant home is across the mountain in Orange County, Virginia. We purchased our home in 2002 when we discovered what a jewel Massanutten Resort was. We had often skied there as a good local mountain, but when we discovered the mountain biking right on the property, we were sold on the place! In fact, we were riding in Colorado, and met a man who said his favorite place to ride was a little resort called Massanutten! We were floored, but we completely agreed. We bought the house with the intent to use it ourselves as much as possible. The decision to rent was and effort to offset some of the costs of the home. We are happy to continue to own it, rent it, and share it with our family and friends. We are constantly upgrading and updating as financing allows. Repeat renters often find many changes in between stays. Some of our more recent projects have been putting in new bamboo floors throughout the downstairs, repainting the kitchen cabinets, and remodeling the downstairs bathroom! We have many more projects on the horizon!

Why Amanda Brookman chose Shenandoah Valley

Our house is located just inside the gates of the resort. We love the location of the house because it is quick and easy to get in and out. We are about a mile from the water park and 3 miles to the ski area. The neighborhood is quiet with little traffic, and we are walking distance to some short trails, a fishing pond, and the playground.

What makes this house unique

We try to make the house very comfortable for our guests. Our beds have quality bedding, our kitchen has needed supplies, and our home is spotless. We also love sharing all the area has to offer as well. We give lots of advice to our guests about local activities. At the house we have a computer that has internet access and we also have wireless access for your own computer. We do our best to accommodate folks. Because most families like access to pools in the summer, we have purchased a guest pool pass that is good for admittance to the property owners' pool with a $5 per person fee (free for children under 5).

We had a wonderful stay. The home was perfect for the five of us and gave everyone their own personal space. The jacuzzi was great and we had everything we needed for a terrific stay.

Great place for a sisters getaway

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was perfect for our weekend retreat from our busy schedules. It was clean, cozy and had everything we needed. The hot tub in the back was a super extra. The kitchen was well stocked and even had condiments like salt n pepper, cinnamon, oil, etc. We'd gladly return again. Thank you Amanda.

the cottage was quaint and very CLEAN!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our weeks stay at the Brookman's Cottage very much. and appreciate their sharing it with us. The amenities were fantastic, including pool access, the hot tub, location, and the overall cleanliness of the house and property. We intend to return next August if all goes right. We had twin 13 year old girls who enjoyed the upstairs suite (as they called it), the bumper cars, pool, hot tub, and the Waterpark. The grill on the deck was a feature at dinner time as we cooked out 5 nights (great weather). We again thank the Brookman's for their generosity and hope to return next year.

A really great stay!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a week in July and had a great time. There were 5 adults and a toddler. The house is really, really easy to get to. It's only about a half hour from a main highway, and then it was like 2 other roads to get there. Really easy to find. And once you get into the resort at Massanutten, it's not far at all to the house. Right down the road past the guard station. There is plenty of parking for 2 cars, but any more than that would mean parking people in. We had no issues taking walks around the neighborhood, although some cars drove pretty fast on the main road, so just be aware if you plan to walk to the playground, etc.

The house itself was everything that was described. It was cozy, a good size for 5 adults. Two bathrooms, and the washer and dryer were really convenient. We used the hot tub twice. We were told to not use it after 8 pm because voices carry to the neighbors, which was fine. However, when we first arrived, the neighbors were quite loud (yelling) outside. We didn't have any other issues after that first impression though, and we kept that in mind when we did use the hot tub, even though it was early evening, before 8 pm. The neighbors are close, but we didn't even really see them after that. There's plenty of privacy on the back porch by the hot tub and grill.

We chose to pay for linens and towels so we didn't have to take our own. The kitchen was well-equipped with a lot more than I expected. Plenty of plates, pots and pans, some other things like dishsoap and aluminum foil, and a dishwasher! We've never rented a house like this, so all of that stuff was a nice bonus. We were hoping there would be a flat screen tv to hook up a Playstation for video games, and there are no flat screens (they are the older style tvs). Not a big deal, but something to take note of.

We did go to the pool once. The pool pass is only good for one (of 3) pool, so make sure you go to the correct one. There were also good restaurants not far from Massanutten, and plenty of activities within driving distance.

The only very minor issues, if you want to call them that, were the downstairs shower was slow to drain and the one bed was a little saggy in the middle with two people in it. (Also, if you're tall, you should shower downstairs.) I don't consider those things deal-breakers at all, and they were only minor inconveniences really. We had a great stay, the owners were great to work with. Would definitely recommend.
