Design Award Winning 1853 Antebellum Home In Heart of Roswell off the Square

Bedrooms 2
Space 2,000 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

2 bedrooms (one is the sleeping loft with 2 beds) 1 bathroom off the town square

Located in Roswell's Historic area next to the town square - a popular site for weddings, weekend art shows, special events and restaurants. Original Roswell Mill House built in 1853, renovated in 1995 winning a restoration award and upgraded in 2012 saving the original heart pine floors, beams, working wood fireplaces in dining room and living room. The 1853 Milhouse was built as a duplex but is now an open architecture and specious home for one party of guests. The outside design with two front doors was preserved as a national historical registry requirement. Plenty of parking in the back. Located across the street from the old mill, covered bridge, dam and Chattahoochee nature park with hundreds of acres of hiking trails.

The home is a short walking distance to all the restaurants on the city square and the many churches along Church and Mimosa streets. A great location for out of town wedding guests and families.

About Bob Clydesdale

Bob is an attorney and Karen an interior designer. Karen operated a design studio in the Mill House before converting it back to its original use as a residence for mill workers and their families. She kept the interior architecture open and modern while embracing the historical preservation guidelines.

Bob Clydesdale purchased this house in 1994

Why Bob Clydesdale chose Roswell

A very unique location and historical feeling. You can see the town square at the top of the street where weddings and special events are held every weekend surrounded by restaurants. A covered bridge next to the Roswell Mill is across the street. The ruins of the old Roswell Mill burned in the Civil War Battle of Atlanta are part of the extensive hiking trails.

What makes this house unique

Perfect for wedding parties, reunions, executive housing or family visits. Close to events and restaurants. Near GA 400 for 25 minute car ride to down town Atlanta. Two blocks from Church Street where the ten churches have weddings every weekend. Quiet street and hiking into the Chattahoochee Forest Preserve. Two antebellum mansions on the square and Smith Plantation a mile away open for touring.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Bob and Karen- Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home. We really appreciated the attention to detail in the décor- no doubt done by Karen and all the special touches. We are sad to have to leave here but we are off to Savannah. Hope that house can measure up after this on…lol. Thanks again for your hospitality.

good location

  • 3 of 5

Due to weather, the historic home was quite uncomfortable...way hot or freezing. The bathroom downstairs with bedrooms upstairs was also a challenge.

The owner was helpful and responsive, but our days of renting an historic home may be over.

Lovely home in a great area

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed staying at this home for a weekend while we attended a family member's wedding. It's in a great location, and we loved exploring Roswell. The house itself is in a quiet area and we had no problems during our stay. Would definitely recommend!

The house was so charming. The walk to the mill was wonderful. Not to mention being so close to down town Roswell. We will try and come back soon to stay in this charming cottage.

Wonderful property with historic charm and close to so much!

  • 5 of 5

My family of six (two adults and four kids aged 1-10) stayed here for three nights while our local home was undergoing renovations. We LOVED it and didn't want to leave! There was plenty of sleeping space for all of us, and all the amenities of home. Kitchen is well equipped, and we cooked at the house all three nights. We spend lots of weekends exploring downtown Roswell, so we were thrilled to stay here! The house is within walking distance to many restaurants, and my kids loved walking the trails at the historic Roswell Mill. This property would be great for relatives visiting town, or to be close to one of the many wedding venues within walking distance. Owner was a breeze to rent from, and his contact info was very easy to find. We thoroughly enjoyed our "staycation" and can't wait for another excuse to rent the property!

The Mill house is extraordinary. The history of the house and the area is so interesting and our kids learned a lot. The house is equipped with everything you could possibly need and the beds are very comfortable. We will definitely return.

Lovely house

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed in this house for my wedding and the bridesmaids took pre-wedding photos there with me. The house is beautiful and made for some nice photos. It's also dog friendly and within walking distance to a great park. It's a reasonably short walk to downtown. Thanks for a great stay!
