About Deb Fussell
We split our time between Seattle and Bainbridge Island truncated by attacks of wanderlust for travel. We enjoy sharing what we know and love about Bainbridge and Seattle.
Deb Fussell purchased this House in 2004
Why Deb Fussell chose Bainbridge Island
The View!!! From the moment we walk through the front door, we were stunned by the views of the Mountain and the Sound. Our original plans were to re-build and modernize the cottage, but instead, we improved it and still love it. We lived here for two years and commuted to work from the Island. We have found that the cottage is a fantastic place to 'chill' or 'get jazzed'. We love the feeling of being away from it all, but its only a short distance into Island centers - Winslow or Lynnwood where dining, pubs, entertainment and shopping options are numerous. Additionally, Seattle is just a short ferry ride away.
What makes this House unique
This place puts the 'C' in Cozy, the 'FUN' in Functional, and provides a bead on maritime and wild life comings and goings. Its a great place to enjoy the Pacific Northwest at its best. Whether from the comfort of the cottage, the expansive deck or down by the water, this is the place for you. The kitchen is well-equipped, with just about every kitchen tool or appliance. Additionally, the Hummingbird feeder at the kitchen sink provides close encounters with the birds year round. Too cool! The living room is nicely decorated, and comfy. It's large windows on two sides provide a fantastic view of the water and wildlife moving past. The expansive wrap around deck provides a bird's eye view of the water, the mountain, wildlife and maritime traffic.

Vrbo Bear Stay review
Waterfront home with stunning views
The property was delightful: clean, spacious, well stocked and beautifully located in a quiet neighborhood.
The views of the water from the house were spectacular with Mount Rainier as the backdrop. We could've stayed on the deck the entire trip - amazing. We delighted in the gulls, geese and deer we could see up-close.
Deb was an excellent host, readily available and a great source of information on the island and our travel needs.
We would not hesitate to recommend this property and hope to return again in the future.
Bainbridge at its best
It is a great! Every detail was thought of, the beds/bedding, the kitchen was amazing. We were there 3 nights and only ate out once for lunch. We were super content to just relax and enjoy the beautiful view. Deb was the ultimate host and we can’t wait to return!
The property location is beautiful. Great views. I gave three stars for communication, because apparently it wasn't clear what was expected of us when it comes to cleaning. We did everything that was asked of us at check out. There is a reason you pay a cleaning fee when you rent a home on vacation. It was made out that we trashed the place, and that is just not the case. If we had been asked to clean the smudged windows, microwave, countertops, vacuum and sweep we would have. We didn't even have a vacuum to use or sufficient cleaning supplies. I have been renting on VRBO for many years and I have never had a single complaint. This is the absolute worst ending to a stay I have ever experienced. I don't like it being made out that I disrespected someone else's home. I would never do that. When you travel with small kids, there will be crumbs, wrappers, and smudges. It wasn't like it was a surprise that kids were going to be there. I hate that our beautiful trip had such a sour ending.
I am so sorry you took my text to you as being disrespectful. That was not my intention, nor did I intend to put a sour note in your trip.
But as I texted you, 10-11 hours spent cleaning after a week of 4 adults and two children is excessive based on my tenured cleaning lady and my experience. I withheld $100 of the $300 damage deposit to cover extra efforts needed to get the house in the same good condition as received by you. Our normal clean time is 3-4 hours.
There was a vacuum in the back hall closet as well as a broom & dust pan, Windex, several rolls of paper towels, garbage bags, shop rags, etc. that would normally be needed for basic cleaning.
The rental agreement as well as the instructions for departure were readily available and my a gentle reminder to take all trash to outdoor garbage bins and ensure all dishes were in the dish washer was not followed.
I don’t believe I was disrespectful nor personal in my comments to support withholding $100 of your $300 deposit.
I truly am glad you had a wonderful stay.
My wife and I had such a wonderful time at your cottage. We were celebrating our 40th anniversary and we were so pleased that we chose to stay there. The entire experience was great from the start to the very end. The hosts, Deb & Ricco were very friendly and Deb seemed as excited for us to be coming as we were to staying there. We stayed for a week, which is a LIFETIME too short. We ventured out to see the Gardens, walked around the town a bit and drove around to see the island. However, it seemed like every time we would go out that we were in a hurry to be back at the cottage. We loved the cottage, the grounds and most definitely, that VIEW! On one day, Ranier came out all day long. The hummingbirds were a treat to watch. Thanks for helping make our 40th anniversary a special one!
Peaceful and serene surrounded by towering trees, flowers, singing birds and our very own sea lion. Spectacular views, from the deck, of downtown Seattle and Mt. Rainier. Debby was a thoughtful and generous host providing enough to maintain us from Happy Hour on arrival to Breakfast the following day. Fully stocked and furnished with the comforts your own home provides you.
Six women and one 70th birthday. Perfection.
Gerri, Thank you for your kind words! So pleased to hear your stay was so enjoyable. We truly do try to make each guests stay wonderful.
Your birthday celebration with friends is certainly worth the additional effort on my part.
We hope to see you again as you are always welcome back.
This is truly an island paradise in so many ways.
The view is simply stunning. Mount Rainier is captivating all day long as the colors, light and shadows vary from sunrise to sunset. The ferry to Bremerton passes by every hour adding another dimension to the experience of island life and slowing down. There is always some sort of marine traffic to study with the powerful telescope. Be sure to do a bit of research with marinetraffic dot com.
After a day full enjoying the marine life, hungry hummingbirds, soaring eagles and transiting ships you will have quite an appetite.
The kitchen is gourmet throughout and fully equipped with the best equipment and stocked with so many supplies that you will not have to buy those little details. The gas range is amazing. The barbeque is right on the deck and super easy to use while still enjoying the view.
Walking along the shore to Fort Ward and Lynwood is perhaps one of the best walks on the entire island. There are views of Blake Island, Port Orchard and the narrow Rich Pass as well as the Olympic Mountains – with unbelievable sunsets. The walk is quite level for most of the way. And the road has almost no traffic. Of course, you could also take the bikes.
The short trail of steps leads down to the beach and passes a large hammock. On the beach are kayaks and chairs as well as a fire pit. From this location you have a straight view to the East and Alki Point as well as the cityscape of Seattle – including the Space Needle. It is nice to meditate on how close to the city in miles but so far away in the full experience of a fabulous getaway paradise.
We loved it!
