About Christina Schell

My work career has been spent at many great properties throughout the country, the Buena Vista Palace, PGA National Resort and Spa, The Breakers and I am still currently working in the hospitality industry. I have decided over the past few years that I want to create a 'special home' of my own and treat it as the best 5 Star/5 Diamond experience for my guests.

Christina Schell purchased this house in 2010

Why Christina Schell chose Colorado Springs

Colorado's unsurpassed natural beauty surrounds the house and provides endless possibilities for excitement and exploration. Old Colorado City is described as the gateway to the American West, the neighborhood is framed by the picturesque mountains, lush meadows and scenic canyons that have inspired visitors for centuries. Colorado Springs and the cute historic towns offer an inspiring array of outdoor activities that take advantage of the natural beauty of Colorado and caters to guests' and their individual interests.

What makes this house unique

With over 300 days of sunshine each year and virtually no humidity, Colorado Springs provides the perfect backdrop to explore the timeless beauty of the West. Historic Old Colorado City is less than 3 blocks away from the house and less than a 4 minute walk, during the summer every Saturday from 7AM-1:00PM we have a Farmer's Market with local produce, meats, cheese, bread and flowers. Throughout the summer every Thursday at Bancroft Park we have concerts and all summer long we have festivals and a Friday Night Art Walk.

What a wonderful location to stay while in Colorado Springs!

VRBO Bear stayed here

Jun 22, 2016

It’s no secret that bears love the outdoors, and I can’t think of a better location than Colorado Springs to experience the raw beauty of America. I have been known to stay in a mountain den, but for this trip I wanted the whole house to stretch my legs and let the cub have a private bedroom. I felt extra warm and fuzzy when I found a cute Victorian style home in the Old Colorado City historic district, the perfect home base for a trip to Colorado Springs. The house is a short walk to breakfast, lunch, and dinner restaurants on Colorado Avenue. I especially enjoyed Mountain Shadows Restaurant for a hearty breakfast and Dat’s Italian for an authentic New York style Italian dinner. After breakfast, stop by Mountain Mama’s Natural Foods for healthy hiking snacks including gluten-free and paleo options. The neighborhood is so peaceful and relaxing that a deer chose the neighbor’s back yard to bring two fawns into the world on the first morning of our stay. Who needs cable TV and Wi-Fi when you can watch a fawn taking its first steps? The house has everything you need if you want to cook for yourself including modern appliances. The back yard is perfect for grilling and relaxing if you are in the mood. Mama Bear loved the soaking tub after hiking Barr Trail. Little Bear loved the Cog Railway and especially the donuts and hot chocolate at the Summit House. A cozy Victorian style house feels just right after taking in the nourishing beauty of the Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak. Katharine Lee Bates wrote a poetic review of Colorado Springs over 100 years ago that perfectly captures the beauty and emotion experienced by travelers then and now. Colorado Springs is truly America the Beautiful!

Wonderful home!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time using VRBO and I have to admit that I was a little nervous and unsure of what exactly to expect. This is a wonderful home. Perfect spot for my husband, myself and our two younger teens. Everyone had enough room to spread out a little. The kitchen was a huge help feeding the crew. Close to all the attractions. Went out hiking for hours then came back to the house to crash in front of the tv. Perfect! Christina does a fantastic job with all the little details that make it special. Thank you for having us!

Great Time!

  • 4 of 5

We had a fun time and the house is super cute! The downstairs bathroom was hard to flush and the upstairs bathroom worked intermitently. It was aggravating fooling with working toilets on vacation. Also, if you want to sleep upstairs and you are hot natured you will need a fan, there is little air flow.

We had a great time though & would stay again!

Owner's Response: Hi Thank you for the feedback, so sorry to hear about the toilet, of course best to let the owner know if something is wrong when your a guest at house and of course assistance would have been a minute away. Not sure what happened I have had many guests since you departed and no other problems and a note is marked on the toilet downstairs to hold the handle down while flushing, nothing unusual there. The housekeeper and I both noticed the AC on as well as all the upstairs windows still open, this would definitely contribute to not cooling house off, the windows can be opened at the top or bottom and we noticed all the tops were wide open, again BEST to always call the owner ASAP with any questions or issues. Have a great summer 2017.

A sure thing, every time..

  • 5 of 5

This was our third stay in Christina's cottage, a bittersweet visit as our daughter has just graduated from Colorado College. :( It has been a perfect setting for our family these past 4 years, allowing us to host grandparents on this most recent visit, and providing plenty of room for everyone. The location and proximity to CC and downtown was ideal. We will most definitely return should we find ourselves back in the Springs. Thank you, Christina, for being a lovely host!

Great comfortable place, good location, high quality furniture

  • 5 of 5

To give maximum score

- plastic cups & plates would have been useful, 1) for garden use & 2) make it more toddler friendly (fortunately we brought our own) and

- a highchair , we were able to borrow one from friends in Denver, would have struggled without it, and really that's the only thing missing

Other than that ...

Super location, felt safe & not far from tourist spots

Very comfortable beds & furniture

Well equipped kitchen & laundry

Nice to have the garden option

Very cute house in a great location that was close to everything. The home was very cozy and comfortable and provided all that you would need. Bedrooms were comfy too. Our only issue was with the downstairs bathroom toliet not working so well. Hopefully it will be repaired so there are actually 2 fully functional bathrooms. I would recommend this cute little house for a family stay.

The house was perfect - excellent location, good kitchen, comfortable beds, and a cozy living room. We enjoyed wandering over to Colorado Avenue and it was a short drive to the Garden of the Gods. We felt very safe and the area seems to be a lovely community. Thumbs up!!
