About Destination Big Bear

We are a family that loves that outdoors, traveling and adventures. Since we just added one more baby to the mix, we decided that long flights would be out for awhile and quick trips up to Big Bear would be the way to go.

Destination Big Bear purchased this house in 2012

Why Destination Big Bear chose Big Bear

After looking and looking for the perfect family vacation home in Big Bear, we finally found it! We chose this home because of its location in the Eagle Point neighborhood. It's close to the ski slopes which is a must for the winter - who wants to be stuck on Big Bear Blvd sitting in traffic? And it's close to the lake and park which is great for the summer. We deal with traffic enough in Los Angeles, so it's nice to be able to take back roads and ride bikes to our destinations. Getting to the grocery stores is also a snap!

What makes this house unique

We love that this house is located at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac. It's just like how both of us grew up. The yard is almost a half-acre and wraps around the house. It's got a gentle slope so it's been great for the little kids to sled on in the winter.

Very comfy spot needs some work though

  • 4 of 5

This was a very nice place, great location kind of away from the craziness of the town but close enough that you don't have go to far but the place itself could use some maintenance in some area such as some blinds didn't open/close, when we arrived the first thing we saw was a half eaten burrito under the couch so it could probably stand a good thorough cleaning and the fireplace in the game room didn't work so I would ask the management company to go through and check things before the next rental if possible. But overall it was still a nice place, the rooms were comfy the backyard was a good touch I would recommend.

Inviting, Spacious, and Well Maintained Home

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with my family of five: myself, my wife, our two teenage sons, and my younger brother. We wanted a weekend vacation where we could have space to relax and also do things together. There was tons of great living space. We could easily have fit another family in the house and still have had room to spare. I've rented over 10 different VRBO properties over the years, and Heather was the best communicator of any property owner/manager that I've ever dealt with. There were absolutely no surprises or uncertainties during the whole experience. The house itself is very well maintained with great furniture and kitchen utensils. We all felt very comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I must mention that I very much appreciated the labels throughout the house. Each of the wall switches are labeled, the kitchen drawers and cabinets are all labeled, and the instructions for using the hot tub are meticulous as are the instructions for cleaning up and checking out. I am thoroughly impressed by the level of professionalism mixed in with real life communication that I experienced. The best VRBO experience that I've ever had! Thanks, Heather and Matt for letting us rent your home!!

Owner's Response: Well you are our new favorite guest!!! :) We're so glad you had such a relaxing stay at our cabin with your family. We had just spent the last week making some fixes and improvements around the house (added a hammock to the front closet guest supplies), so glad you got to enjoy. There are a lot of places to stay in Big Bear - some fancy and fabulous and some that should be destroyed instead of rented as a vacation home. We're so glad you felt at home in our comfy and clean cabin. We'd love to have you and your family and friends back whenever you decide to head up to Big Bear again! Thanks for the recommendation on the Pine Knot hike also! We always love to hear what fun things our guests have done. All the best, Heather and Matt

Great place to relax with friends and family!

  • 5 of 5

Like previous guests, we found it perfect for our 3 families (6 adults, 5 kids), and really pleased with the layout, facilities and equipment of the house. Hot tub a huge hit with all, and the house has a great layout, with lots of space for all to spread out and never feel too much on top of one another. Kitchen well equipped, great fridge and freezer, so lots of opportunity for convivial times! BTW sofa bed in games room apparently very comfortable too! We were there over Spring Break and went on a couple of beautiful hikes a short drive away from the house. Hosts are extremely friendly and extremely responsive. I'd recommend Hummingbear Lodge to anyone going to Big Bear; a great base for activities in that area.

We'll be back!

  • 5 of 5

Our three families (including five young children) enjoyed a WONDERFUL weekend at Hummingbear Lodge. The owners were incredibly responsive throughout the entire process and take great care in ensuring your stay is pleasant. The house itself is perfect for multiple families, with all the comforts of home and located right in the heart of Big Bear. We lucked out with some snow and enjoyed hours of sledding in the side yard. It was a weekend we'll never forget, and we are so thankful we found Hummingbear!

Spectacular weekend!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time staying here and we couldn't have been happier with our decision. We had three families with 6 children, ages 8 to 13. There was plenty of room for everyone and we never felt crowded. The accommodations were outstanding and the large kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals. Though it hadn't snowed in quite some time all the lifts were open at Snow Summit and it was less than a 5 minute drive. The owners were great to work with and were very responsive. We will definitely be returning. Thanks again!

Owner's Response: Hi Dan! We're so glad you had a successful trip to Big Bear! The nice thing about it not snowing in awhile is that the lift lines seem to get a lot shorter. And Snow Summit keeps making so, so the conditions are usually still pretty decent. Hope you and your crew decide to come back again next year... or see what Big Bear has to offer in the summer! All the Best, Heather and Matt

Winter Family Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time with the kids and family members. It was our first trip with young kids to try skiing. We really wanted to be close to the slopes and help them feel at home in the mountains.

The cabin was very kid and family friendly. It had everything and anything we needed. We spread out very easily. It was a few minute drive to the slopes at Snow Summit, which made it easy to do drops off from the home. The owners were great at communicating and helping us along the way.

We will for sure book it again in the futre.

Thank you again for letting us use your house.

Owner's Response: We're so glad you could feel just at home at our cabin as we do. Just like us, we make the quick trip (less than 5 min) over to Snow Summit to drop off and pick skiers. So much easier to be dropped off at the ticket counter than to haul kids and gear from the parking lot or shuttle area. Yay to a successful first ski lessons! Keep in touch and hope to see you back soon! Heather and Matt
