Overview

About the property

5 Br Total, 3 Br In Main Plus 2 Sleeping Cabins, Sleeps 11

Grape Island is actually 2 private island, joined by their own footbridge.

The main cottage was brand new in 2010, open, airy, close to water on all sides. You feel like you are on a boat from all rooms. Many large mature trees and wildlife. Cottage beautifully appointed with: antiques, pine interior, art, stained glass, open cottagey-kitchen, large open living/dining, awesome for entertaining.

Bedrooms are large, beds good quality, linens and towels provided, kitchen fully stocked, spices provided. Outdoor seating for sun-downers, charcoal BBQ s (2-Webber with electric starter). Large outdoor picnic table where most dinners are eaten. A swing and a hammock.

Privacy galore. Your pets are welcome. Breezy in evenings but out of the wind and out of the boat traffic, few bugs in summer.

Lots of boat docking. Comes with canoe. Motor boats can be rented from Kawartha Park Marina or Peel Marine. Owners will arrange a guide to get you to our islands, plus an orientation to the cottage and the lake area. Islands are fairly level and low to the water, thus easy for older guests or any challenged at walking, yet I would not say wheel chair accessible.

A wood stove has been installed in the living room and the cottage is fully insulated, so it is suitable for shoulder season rental. Fishermen, writers, readers, poet and those wishing the quieter side of cottage country are all welcome!

Swimming is good and deep off the north island.

Bunkie on north island is 100 yrs old and very original, duck when you enter the door! Queen bed there.

Bunkie on main island has queen, close to main cottage.

Main building is 1800 sq ft, with 3 huge BR's. The master BR has king and 2 PC ensuite, BR #2 has king and 2 twins and BR #3 is an open sleeping space with bunks plus a twin. Building is insulated, all BR's have ceiling fans, remains cool on hot days.

Bathroom down has claw foot tub and decorated with Turkish tiles.

Very close to heritage sites and buildings of Ass'n of Stony Lake Cottagers. Includes: Juniper Island Store (quick meals, penny candy, ice creams, drinks etc,) Stony Lake Yacht Club (junior sailing program, tennis courts, racing on weekends,) the 'Pavillion' (for movies and square dancing weekly,) swimming lessons, canoeing lessons, masquerade and historic recently rebuilt government dock with 'Pagoda.' It just goes on and on. Really must be seen to be believed.

Boat access only. Access points; Kawartha Park Marina, Carveth's Marina and Dunfords Landing are best. There are no laundry facilities or dishwasher onsite. Laundromat in Lakefield.

About Pam Carlson

We are a family of 5, we live in BC. Cottaging at Stoney Lake goes back to Pam's grand parents, in the '40's. Our children have spent all their summers at the lake. They are now at an age where they are moving on with their own lives and we feel that we have time at our fabulous place to share.

Pam Carlson purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Pam Carlson chose Douro-Dummer

The property is special because of its on Stoney Lake first of all. Then its privacy, views in all directions, wonderful buildings, its location in a very quiet part of the lake and proximity to all the action on Juniper Island.

What makes this cottage unique

Stoney Lake, simply is unique. It's community is special, many generations old, heritage and conservation minded. The islands are tranquil and lovely, whether you want to join in the action at Juniper Island or not!

Best Turkey Dinner ever.

  • 5 of 5

My family and I ( eleven of us ) spent Thanksgiving weekend at Pam's cottage. The pictures on the website do not do it justice. This is a beautiful cottage plus an awesome rustic cottage, on 2 islands on a gorgeous lake. If we had better weather, I would think that I was in heaven. Family had a great time and the most memorable Thanksgiving weekend. Pam was great communicating and getting us all the details etc about getting to, and what to do on the island. Looking forward to coming back again someday.

What an amazing place.

  • 5 of 5

My family and i just spent a week on Grape Island - Stony Lake Ontario, and the property exceeded our every expectation. The cottage is beautiful, open and has windows everywhere. Windows on top of windows and a lake view out of every single one. I seemed to relax the moment we stepped foot there. My son stayed in the 100 year old log cabin on the second island (attached by a footbridge) and he loved it! I would highly recommend this rental to anyone looking for the perfect getaway to a private island. I can't wait to return. I would like to thank the property owner for sharing this very intimate family space with us.

Quiet, peaceful getaway....!

  • 5 of 5

We spent Thanksgiving long weekend at Pam's cottage and it was exactly what we were looking for - quiet, peaceful, beautiful fall colours and sunsets. We took our Newfoundland dog who also loved every minute of it. Pam was fantastic and ensured we were all set before arriving at the cottage. The cottage is spacious, clean, well-maintained and has everything you need for a relaxing getaway. And you really are on your own little island! We really needed time away from our busy schedules and unplug from everything (including the TV, internet and the hustle-bustle of city living) - this was the perfect getaway for us. Highly recommend it to anyone who wants to experience the beauty of the Kawarthas in a beautiful and relaxing setting!

Pam,

We want to thank you for the beautiful vacation home. We had such a wonderful relaxing time.

The dogs loved trying to catch the frogs. Everybody enjoyed the fishing from all points on the islands.

Interesting island experience!

  • 5 of 5

We had a nice stay at this cottage - it is a charming place and an interesting place to stay on two little islands joined by a neat footbridge. We found the lake and scenery beautiful (along with the sunsets!). The kitchen had everything we needed and the hostess was absolutely amazing about being in touch well in advance with all the information we had to know about the cottage itself. We certainly felt there was thought put into ensuring our stay was pleasant.

There are lots of other cottages on the lake so it doesn't feel like you're a complete castaway and it is interesting to boat around to see island life out on Stoney Lake. Definitely an experience!

:)

Lovely destination

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed on Grape Island for a week with our baby boy & small dog. The cottage is so beautiful and cozy and perfect location for a family week away. The living and dining area are very well set up for a large group or family and the kitchen is well stocked with anything you could need. The bedrooms are very comfortable. The views over the lake are stunning especially at sunrise & sunset. We look forward to going back again soon.

Our cottage is 2 private islands in a quiet part of Stoney Lake, Ontario. Island and water and wildlife views all around. Complete privacy and quiet! Sunrise, sunset. Must see Juniper Island and heritage buildings, 5 min by boat. Must paddle our canoe into a back bay or the lost channel. Must enjoy sundowners on the west side of the cottage. Or must enjoy a coffee and the Globe and Mail (delivered) on the dock on the east side. Must dive off the swim dock on the north island. Must swim! If you have kids, you must find your way to the Sister Islands for a higher jump off the rock and a weenie roast over an open fire. If you sail, you must rent a boat from SLYC and take it out for fun. You must tube with your kids (boat rental required.) You must fall asleep in our hammock. You must read a book with a drink in a Muskoka chair. You must light the wood burning stove if you get a chilly off-season day. You must invite family and friends over for a bar bq and eat outside on our huge picnic table. You must sleep in, as nothing will wake you up. You must bring your pets, as they are welcome, as are you!
