About Alison and Charles Stephens

We bought the property 33 years ago and built the cabin ourselves out of logs from the property. We peeled them with the old fashioned draw knives. Over the years whether we lived near or far we have always come back with our kids to our cabin and had our summer vacations here. In 2012 we happily moved back to Maine and built a year round house on the same property. We realized that others would enjoy the cabin vacation as well and are happy to offer it for rent.

Alison and Charles Stephens purchased this cabin in 1982

Why Alison and Charles Stephens chose Acadia

We purchased this property because of the size, 50 acres, of it. We have fields and woods and Peters Brook runs through the lower part of the land. We also have two small ponds up near the cabin and our house. We like the privacy of living 3/10th of a mile off the main road.

What makes this cabin unique

The unique nature of this cabin is that it is very private yet only 2 miles from the center of Blue Hill. We are also close to some of the most beautiful coastline in the world, the Blue Hill Peninsula is home to Deer Isle, Stonington and many other beautiful small communities. Great kayaking and hiking right close by. We are close to Bar Harbor, home of Acadia National Park, a popular summer attraction. We have 2 swimming ponds on the property and have built a 45 foot labyrinth for walking meditations.

Cozy Little cabin in the Maine Woods

  • 5 of 5

Welikit is a great place to relax and enjoy the wonderful surroundings of woods and ponds. It is an easy drive to Acadia, and also many small coastal towns with many artisans and scenic views. If you don't mind heights the Penobscot Bridge has an elevator to the top of its tower, and Fort Knox is an interesting park. Bhoth are a nice stop if you want to see the Camden area. And don't forget to hike up Blue Hill!

We were looking for a place near Acadia National Park and this was a great place to stay. The owners were accommodating and friendly, very easy to work with.

Wonderful log cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 6 loved this gem in the Maine woods. Its full of character with an extensive book collection, great little loft where 2 kids can sleep and "hide" from parents, charmingly decorated throughout.

This was our first time in Maine, so we did take several day trips to Acadia NP-about 45 min drive each way. Countless things to see and do there.

If you're less interested in the bustle of Bar Harbor, Blue Hill and the surrounding coastal environs have plenty to see as well. When we we're in the mood for a quiet retreat the cabin fit the bill perfectly. The cabin has a gas stove which was wonderfully convenient to use and kept us warm in the evening when we read by the fire. There is also a fire pit right outside the cabin with plentiful firewood for those evening campfires under the stars. We enjoyed swimming in the larger of 2 ponds located a stones throw away. The closer smaller pond created a wonderful backdrop to the cabin.

The owners are special. Attentive to needs, informative, with an interesting background, I only regret not having the time to get to know them better.

Second year - better than the first!

  • 5 of 5

So happy to come back to Welikit for a second summer - only wish the stay had been longer! The cabin is exactly as pictured - cozy and secluded, but close to town for library, dinner, and groceries . Great base to explore from Stonington to MDI! Thank you Alison and Charles for making us feel so welcome. Until next year!

Wow, nice place to get out of city life. Totally private and has everything you need like grill, fire pit , ponds, boat etc. we in fact skipped one day planned trip to Acadia park just to have fun at this cottage. Our kids enjoyed the place especially second floor which look like bunk bed.

Big thanks to Charles as he was so nice in explaining everything and promptly responding to my texts. We loved this place and would like to stay here in future.

Amazing, Peaceful Cabin in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

My husband, dog, and I stayed in this sweet cabin for 3 wonderful nights. Had an amazing time just chilling out in this clean and well stocked home. Walked the grounds and used the firepit each day/night. It was a perfect escape from city life. No wifi or tv but who cares!?! You are surrounded by nature and books galore. Plenty of games in the house as well. You will love your stay. The town is small but has some cute shops and places to eat. Check out the Fishnet and Co Op for food. And the chocolate/florist shop makes a great spiced coffee. Can't believe how lucky I was to find this cabin!
