About Alison and Charles Stephens

We bought the property 31 years ago and built the cabin ourselves out of logs from the property. We peeled them with the old fashioned draw knives. Over the years whether we lived near or far we have always come back to this cabin and had our summer vacations here. In 2012 we happily moved back to Maine and built a year round house on the same property. We figured others would enjoy the cabin vacation as well and are happy to offer it for rent.

Alison and Charles Stephens purchased this cabin in 1982

What makes this cabin unique

The unique nature of this cabin is that it is very private yet only 2 miles from the center of Blue Hill. We are also close to some of the most beautiful coastline in the world, the Blue Hill Peninsula is home to Deer Isle, Stonington and many other beautiful small communities. Great kayaking and hiking right close by. We are close to Bar Harbor, home of Acadia National Park, a popular summer attraction. We have 2 swimming ponds on the property and have built a 45 foot labyrinth for walking meditations.

A beautiful cabin in a beautiful setting

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time at Welikit and were taken by the character that the cabin exuded. The place really makes ones imagination run wild. From randomly placed shelves of great books to the nearly panoramic view of the woods, it's hard not to feel at total peace here. Alison and Charles were also very kind and friendly when they stopped by to welcome us on the day we arrived. Don't hesitate on booking a stay here if you're considering it. I highly recommend hiking up Blue Hill Mountain too.

Nature lover's paradise !!

  • 5 of 5

We were really lucky to have found this cute little cabin. Based upon the reviews and pics we decided that we had to stay here and hence moved our stay dates by 2-3 days since it was already booked for the weekend we had initially planned for. And I can say that it was the best decision for our trip! Alison and Charles are very sweet, always available to answer any queries and we had no issues at all before, during and after our stay.

This cabin is surrounded with woods and has huge glass windows which makes you appreciate the beauty of the nature outside. It has all the modern comforts, comfortably sleeps 5, has lots of open space, has a reading nook, wood stove, fire pit, ample kitchen utensils and dishes and to top it all off; an amazing loft space which is perfect for kids and Kidults alike! what more we could have asked for! . Each and every corner of the cabin has been tastefully personalized and shows the love and dedication that has gone into creating such a lovely place. Everyone from our group felt very relaxed and didn't want to leave the place. Drive to Acadia and Bar Harbor is not too far and the grocery store is hardly 5-7 mins drive away.

I would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone driving to Blue Hill/Acadia NP. Thanks to Alison and Charles for sharing their little paradise with us. We will surely visit again.

Quite perfect

  • 5 of 5

What a charming cabin and spot! We spent 3 nights, had all we needed, and were impressed by the beauty of the place! Nice intimate cabin, although Charles and Allison live on the same land, we had total privacy and we only saw Charles when he came to meet us upon our arrival. Had a great time there and would definitely go again. This place might actually be perfect!

A charming getaway in Blue Hill

  • 5 of 5

Loved our recent stay at this cabin! Views of the pond, tucked in the woods and very peaceful. Handmade by the owner, it has plenty of room for a small group but small enough to feel cozy for two, such as our stay. The owners were very helpful through the whole process and made us feel welcome.

If you are looking for a quiet, relaxed place for a getaway, look no further than this place!

Quiet Cabin in the MOST Beautiful Setting

  • 5 of 5

The pictures won't capture the true magic of this place. It's a cozy cabin full of privacy, sure. But, just the beauty all around it is worth the rental price! Evergreens everywhere you look with ferns as ground cover. 2 ponds behind the cabin with a nicely designed fire pit area in the backyard. Plenty of blankets to stay comfy when you open the windows and let the cool Maine air into the cabin. A little back patio for you to enjoy the fresh air and beauty. There are plenty of dishes, a library of diverse and fantastic titles, seating spread throughout the cabin. Our kids LOVED climbing the ladder to the loft and sleeping on the twin mattresses. We read on the adirondack chairs in the backyard.

This was an emergency switch for us. We had reserved another place across town for 2 weeks and had to move the vacation up a week to accommodate a friend's wedding. Since the place we'd reserved wasn't available that first week, we found welikit. And, boy are we glad we did. In fact, we wish we'd stayed both weeks at welikit. We embraced the connections that no internet allowed us to make, and it was such a welcome change.

Also, the owners made sure they were ready to respond to anything we needed, but we didn't need anything. We're already longing to return.
