About the property

PROPERTY_TYPE_HOUSE, 1 Bedrooms, 1.50 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Helmsman's Hide-A-Way is a charming 1967, 1100 square foot Craftsman A-frame, nestled on a oversized private wooded lot just blocks from the beach, is a perfect setting for your relaxing coastal getaway. The hand crafted interior features pegged hardwood floors. The wood floors with the curved vaulted celing, and kitchen with open gallery rail shelving gives you the feeling of being on a tall ship from the days of yore. A large raised deck completes the nautical feeling.

On the main floor you'll find the full kitchen which includes a dishwasher, microwave, Jenn Air electric range and refrigerator. There is also an oversized 1 car garage with a full size washer/dryer.

The great room includes a wood stove which takes the chill off the cool coastal nights. The great room opens onto the expansive, sunny deck, and there is also a picnic table in the yard for alfresco dining. On this floor you'll also find a large bathroom with shower/tub combo. The newly redone bathroom gives it a spa like feel, while still fitting the character of this home.

The large main floor bedroom is equipped with two queen size beds and 2 large closets. The bedroom was an addition to the home and the original curved exterior shingled wall of the A-frame has been preserved as a unique architectural feature of the room. You'll find a desk in this room if you want to set up your laptop and get some work done. Kitchen

The amazing leaded and beveled glass door in the photo to the right, was from a commercial building and was over 100 years old when installed. We don't know the whole history on it, but maybe we'll find it out as time goes by. From the living room, a spiral staircase takes you to a roomy loft with queen size bed, sitting area and a 1/2 bath. The1/2 bath is tucked behind a partial wall, no door - but beats going down the sprial stairs in the middle of the night. This house just oozes mid-century, while the important stuff has been replaced, i.e. all new mattresses, and high quality linens, the homeowners are letting it's roots show by leaving it's character intact.

About Leslie

We've been looking for a property in this neighborhood since we stayed in a house, in this area 7 years ago. Finally the right one came up.

Why Leslie chose Central Coast

I love A-frames, and this one is super close to the beach, on an oversized lot, and has great parking. It's also out of the windy/foggy section that the beach front places have to put up with in the summer.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Leslie was so responsive and thorough about check-in and made us feel so comfortable throughout the trip. When we arrived, we were surprised and excited to see that everything we could possibly need was on hand - Leslie had thought of everything! The cabin is located so close to the beach, and the surrounding area is lovely. The cabin itself was cozy and had more than enough room for everyone. All in all, we couldn't have asked for anything better. A truly magical place!

GREAT Get-Away. Comfortable, Affordable Gem

  • 4 of 5

We very much enjoyed our stay at Helmsman Hide-Away. The ambiance is comfy-cozy-casual with a nostalgic flare. It is situated in a quiet neighborhood, short walk to fabulous beach, tucked out of the winds with an easy back route in and out to Florence old town. Surrounding trees provide a calming mix of dappled sun & shade. Our hosts made us feel welcome with a myriad of thoughtful touches, and our every need was met and exceeded with the home's amenities and well-stocked pantry. The mattress & linens are of noteworthy comfort & quality. We are grateful to owners for being pet-friendly and would definitely stay here again.

3 beach lovers, a kid and a dog from Eugene, OR

  • 4 of 5

We spent a sunny April week-end in this charming, comfortable A-Frame. The description says 1 bedroom, but there is the cutest loft bedroom w/1/2 bath in addition to the large bedroom. This place is furnished much nicer than most rentals so I brought a couple old flannel sheets to cover the lovely sofa and our bed so our small dog could be next to us, even though a pet cover for the bed was provided. We found the house well stocked with everything we needed and more. The large deck just begs for a party. The short walk to the beach allowed us to check out the neighborhood. And being set back from the beach protected us on the day that was very windy. We had a totally relaxed stay and plan to return soon.
