Oceanfront living is the only way to experience Manhattan Beach at its best. This perfect 1950s beach “shack” is the best of both worlds: California casual with a retro feel. Steps down to the beach and three shorts blocks to the Pier, an easy walk to the best restaurants in town or for homemade treats at the Manhattan Creamery.
Entering from Ocean Avenue and the gate next to the two-car garage, you walk past the laundry room and the ¾ bath that’s perfect for post-beach showering. Down a few steps to a patio that’s perfect for dining al fresco. A full-size Weber kettle and a smaller Smoky Joe are available if you feel like barbecuing. As you enter the front door of the house from the patio, a wall of windows greets you with a sweeping view of the Pacific. The living room is comfortably furnished with an overstuffed sofa and chairs, plus a 42” wall-mounted flat screen TV above the decorative fireplace. The dining table around the corner seats six and shares the ocean view. From here, you can open the door onto the deck from which you can spend hours watching the ocean, the surfers, the swimmers, the cyclists on the bike path, and the never-ending parade of runners, walkers, and dogs on the Strand just below the deck railing. The new kitchen is behind the dining area with brand new appliances, new cabinets and counters. Behind the kitchen is a powder room and a bedroom with a double bed, its own half bath plus separate shower, and a large walk-in closet.
Upstairs is the huge master bedroom, with a sweeping ocean view. Fall asleep in the king-size bed to the sound of the waves breaking on the shore. There is also a wall-mounted 42” flat-screen TV in the master, which also boasts a large walk-in closet. The upstairs bathroom has a vintage blue shower-tub combo. The hall closet holds lots of beach towels. The other upstairs bedroom hosts twin beds and another large walk-in closet.
Many other Manhattan Beach houses brag about their views and their proximity to the beach, but few of them are actually oceanfront. This house is the real deal! Outside the front door is a gate leading to the Strand and to the steps down to the beach. There is an outdoor closet by the front door loaded with beach chairs, beach toys, and boogie boards. This is the only way to experience a vacation in Manhattan Beach.
MINIMUM STAY ONE WEEK!
Our family has been visiting this beach house for many years. It offers the opportunity to fall asleep and awake to the sound of the ocean and to watch gorgeous sunsets from the furnished deck overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Just outside the gate, stroll down the Strand and or along the beach at any time of day or night.
The neighborhood is safe, quiet, and convenient. The Manhattan Beach Pier is steps away, and the large public beach below the house has public volleyball nets, outdoor gym equipment, and strong waves for surfing or boogie boarding. You can get by without a car here, as everything you need is within walking distance. The beach house is 3-4 blocks away from two grocery stores, a wide array of sit-down and takeout restaurants, farmers market, a divine bakery and multiple coffee houses, an organic tea shop, a public library, beach rental shops, yoga studios, and fabulous shopping.
The owner of the house is very accommodating and happy to answer questions about the house or about the area. She left detailed notes of how to work all the electronics and menus from many area restaurants. We highly recommend this house for a fabulous, unforgettable vacation.
Location, location, location makes this the ultimate beach property…a charming, “classic” beach house located right on the Strand and lovingly cared for by its owner.
It has amazing views and is minutes from the sand and water. The raised deck overlooking the Strand is perfect for people watching with a cup of coffee in the morning, or watching the sunset with a glass of wine at night. The master bedroom, facing the ocean, is huge, with loads of closet space (not that you’ll need many clothes, because after all it is the beach). The newly remodeled kitchen is stocked with every kitchen tool you’ll need. Everything…restaurants, grocery store, Starbucks, retail stores…was all within walking distance. Bring your bike! The bike path provides miles and miles of scenic bike riding along the beach and conveniently runs right in front of the house.
If you are looking to experience life in a California beach community, this is the house is for you! We would not hesitate to rent this beach house again.
This is a great house right on the Strand within walking distance of everything in Manhattan Beach. The house is one of the few original houses left on the Strand and invokes the old California lifestyle. Redone kitchen, huge upstairs bedroom with amazing views. Another bedroom upstairs and one on the first floor. Great deck for people watching. Owner is attentive and makes sure home is well cared for, and expects the same from her guests.
Our family had a great vacation staying in this wonderful, classic beach home!
The location really is as good as it gets!
*Beach front with breathtaking views and centrally located to shops and restaurants*
Most everything you need outside the home is in walking distance where we rarely got in our car.
The house is immaculate and well maintained. The homeowner has stocked the house with beach gear, bikes, books, board games and so many other thoughtful items to enhance the stay of the guests.
I just can’t say enough about this rental property!
We look forward to returning :-)
We so enjoyed our week in this lovely, airy, beautifully furnished and equipped home. The owner is an architect/designer and recently renovated the kitchen. It is truly a cook's dream--lovingly and thoroughly outfitted, with views of the beach as you prepare meals. My adult children hardly left the porch/balcony. They sunned and chatted and truly relaxed from their frantic lives. We shared stories, laughter, and sunsets, nestled happily. The PERFECT family vacation. The owner is the consummate hostess, helpful, gracious, and very welcoming to a house she clearly loves dearly. Great book collection, too. Enjoy!
This is not the big modern ultra beach mansion, it is better because it is the comfy type of beach house people had 40 years ago with all the modern conveniences and it was clean as a whistle. It is nice to not share with other renters upstairs and there is parking for 5 cars easily. The patio is so comfortable and is a great spot for watching life pass you by. Best place we have ever stayed in MB by far. Thanks to Corinna for all of her help too.
We recently spent the week of New Year's 2014 as guests in this beautiful home; this past trip being our fifth or sixth to rent on The Strand in Manhattan Beach. Our three daughters, and new grand baby! Given our previous trips we've found the ocean view and location to the village center to be the top-two criteria for a great stay (we've been lucky with weather each trip, so we might be taking great weather for granted and it should "rank" as well :) Not only did this selection provide spectacular views and perfect location, but the decor and the amenities of the beach home are on the money! We didn't even rent a car, simply walking each day to restaurants three blocks away, or groceries, wine, etc. an exhilarating five-block walk. We Uber'ed a car over to Santa Monica one day, but other than that, we relaxed, cooked meals, walked The Strand, played some touch football, and enjoyed the nearby shopping and restaurant selections. If you haven't been to Manhattan Beach, GO! Hip-vibe, while enjoying the magnificent Pacific, only 200 yards from your balcony. On our next trip to MB we'll be checking availability with VRBO #474003 before checking with anyone else! ENJOY!
