Apartment In Charming 110 Year Old House, 15 min walk to town, 3 min to Marina

Bedrooms 3
Half Baths1
Space 1,300 sq. ft.
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

3 bedrooms, kitchen, 1 1/2 bath , private entrance, children and dogs welcome

Beautiful large, bright and friendly, completely renovated second floor apartment. Half mile into town down Main St, about a 15-20 minute walk, or a little more by the scenic Harbor Shore walk. Only a 3 minute walk to Snow Marina, a boat launch and dog/kid park.

You will have 2 generous sized bedrooms with queen size beds ( we get compliments all the time on the comfort of our mattresses and the softness of our 100% cotton sheets) and a third bedroom with a twin bed which can also be used as a TV/relaxing room.

It has a large, airy, fully functional and fully equipped kitchen, which combined with the backyard's propane grill will take care of everything from breakfast, to a pot of lobsters, to grilled steaks.

It has one full bathroom with a bathtub and shower, and a roomy half-bath which can accommodate morning shaves or makeup, anything except a bath.

After years in the travel industry, and being a traveler myself, I think I have learned what is needed to provide a cozy, comfortable, and well equipped home-away-from-home for my guests. The rooms are all bright, attractive, airy and very peaceful. Everything you need is included, linens and towels, cooking and eating utentils, including spices, etc.. TV and plenty of books and games. Parking is available for two cars, or one car and a boat trailer. You don't need to bring anything for your stay except yourself, and a willingness to relax and enjoy Maine!

About Carol Eliasen

Welcome! I'd like to invite you to stay with me and my small terrier dog at our wonderful 110 year old house and our lovely Maine. When I suddenly found myself retired and alone a few years ago, I decided I wanted to settle in Maine, where I had spent many lovely weekends and vacations over the past 30 years. Looking at realty on-line, I kept being drawn to this much too big, much too run down old house in Rockland (one of my favorite towns). It just kept calling me. After some investigation I found out it was built over 110 years ago in 1905, was solid but needed a lot of TLC.

After a two year top to bottom renovation, both the house and I are happier and younger. When I finally had the time to put in a new garden, she was at last a bright, happy house both inside and out.

Three years ago I decided to do some summer rentals and I was surprised and delighted to find how much I enjoyed sharing my lovely old house. I've made many new friends, had lots of great conversations, and my guests seem to enjoy staying with Iki (my terrier) and I, which makes me happy. I hope you enjoy our home as much as I do if you come to stay.

Why Carol Eliasen chose Mid-Coast & Islands

We (Iki and I) think we offer the best of both worlds- we are out of the traffic and bustle of downtown Rockland in the summer, combined with the convenience of being only 3-4 minutes by car or, better yet, 15-20 minutes on foot from the excitement of Rockland's activities. It's an easy car ride to many of the best sites on the mid-coast. The house is roomy, friendly and comfortable, welcoming you back after a busy day exploring our beautiful coastal Maine.

What makes this apartment unique

Snow Marina is so conveniently near that this is a great place to stay if you have children who need a place to run free, fly a kite, a dog to walk, or if you want to just watch the boats while you sit on a bench before or after a busy day, meditating on the beauty of the cove.

We are conveniently located to start your day trips to explore the area and only a 15 minute drive to Birch Point State Park, which has one of the best swimming and hiking beach area in this area, Lucia Beach. There are four lighthouses and miles of coastal scenery to enjoy, just a short car ride away. In short, we have everything you need to have a perfect vacation in beautiful coastal Maine.

Immaculate condition and beautifully restored, spacious

Carol is clearly a well traveled host who has thought of everything. We have stayed in furnished places but not to the extent of this one. You could literally bring clothing and the apartment would hv everything you needed. My family of 4 includes 2 teen boys. Since my youngest is 6'3 he is too long for a lot of beds. It was great that both boys had their own bedroom. It was even better that mom and dad had their own bedroom with a private bathroom. The boys just used our bathroom to shower and then had their own half bath. All beds were super comfy. Carol gave us wonderful recommendations as well as a folder full of suggestions. Enjoyed claws in town as our goal was to eat lots of lobsters. We aren't heading directly home or I would hv loved to get some fresh fish and lobster from Jess market rt down the road. If we had more time, the kitchen in the apartment was fully equipped for cooking rt down to the seasonings and lobster pot. Beautiful apartment with all of the comforts of home and then some

What a lovely place!

  • 5 of 5

It was a pleasure to have stayed with Carol! The place is so charming, spacious, very clean, and the most comfty beds! Carol has thought of everything you might need to make your stay the most comfortable. She was very accommodating to us, we had a late arrival. She had maps and notes of suggested places and restaurants to visit. We have already shared with her that when we return to Maine, we hope to stay with her! Carol and her charming home added to our visit to beautiful Rockland, Maine. Thank you, Carol! ~ Brenda, Goodlettsville, Tennessee

A very nice home away from home.

  • 5 of 5

We love Rockland and the folks who live and work there. That's why we returned to stay for a whole week! As a base we traveled as far south as Portland and Boothbay (to see the fabulous Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens). The apartment had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Carol Eliason is a gracious and interesting host. She has thought of any need one could want and has provided it for you. We ate our evening meals at home and slept like lambs in very comfortable beds.

We will be returning to visit again. Wicked Good!

Ideal vacation spot!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay in Carol’s home. Yes, there are multiple reasons we returned! The accommodations are very clean, spacious and comfortable. The kitchen is not only supplied with many basics and a few special extras for cooking, there are shelves stocked with plenty of books and games. Rockland has much to offer: museums, galleries, shops and excellent restaurants, plus a scenic walking path along the harbor. And you don’t need to wander far from town to find lovely parks, beaches, lighthouses and lobster shacks. Carol personally provides such a welcoming environment…. an ideal setting for a relaxing and enjoyable stay!

Perfect in every way

  • 5 of 5

We can not say enough to come close to how amazing our stay was with Carol. Everything was perfect and Carol had every single detail in place. We have never stayed anywhere else where we had absolutely everything we needed or could have wanted. Her home is beautiful, location is so convenient and we loved our spacious 2nd floor suite. We will definitely be back to stay with Carol again!!!

Charming & Spacious

  • 5 of 5

I really enjoyed staying at Carol's place. It had a private entrance and a lovely outdoor space with a grill, table and an area to lounge. It was a great location, only 10 minutes to the art workshop I attended in Thomaston. The flat itself was charming in its decor and had a wonderful feeling of being at home. Carol thought of everything a guest would need for a comfortable stay. She was a gracious host and made sure I had everything I needed including shortcuts to my class and an umbrella and raincoat on the one day that it rained. I highly recommend this lovely home and I am looking forward to visiting again next year!

Car: recommended

Located in the Historic South End of Rockland, the house is a convenient 15-20 minute walk to town (3-4 minutes by car) and our small town beach at Sandy Beach Park. It's also a 3-4 minute walk to the Snow Marina and park, home of the Sail, Steam and Power Marine Museum and the Coastal Children's Museum, and a real working ship repair yard. The Marina is a Public Boat Launch with the cove on one side and a big green park on the other side for walking the dog or kids, watching the boats, or enjoying a beautiful Maine morning or evening sunset. For the hardy, locals swim off the docks on hot days. It provides us with fresh ocean breezes all day. ..............................

The South End offers easy car access to Maine sites worth visiting several times. Owlshead Lighthouse (10 minutes or so) for great views and, of course, the lighthouse. Lucia Beach at Birch Point State Park (15 minutes) has a beautiful beach for the best ocean swimming in the area, with woods on either side for walks, sunning on the surrounding rock ledges (nice and flat). Port Clyde (20 minutes or so) for fishing and rental of kayaks or seeing it's lighthouse, and Thomaston (10 minutes), a sweet quaint little Maine town. .......................

On the other side of town you are heading north to Rockport and Camden, 20 minutes away by car, for some of the best shopping and antiquing or keep going north as far as you want for a truly lovely scenic drive. .....................

Rockland itself is a fun and activity filled destination. The town has free parking, with easy walking to numerous art galleries, the Farnsworth Museum, Wyeth Center Museum, Lighthouse Museum, and lots of fun small shops. It has cafes with internet, a great bakery, the vintage Strand Theatre with live entertainment and off-beat movies, great pubs and some good of the best restaurants on the coast. It has an active in-town harbor area, and slightly outside of downtown is the walkable mile-long Rockland Lighthouse Breakwater. It also provides access to ferries to the Islands and booking sailing or ocean fishing day trips.......

Walk from your apartment to any of the following festivals held in Rockland's Harbor Park: North Atlantic Blues Festival in July, the annual Lobster Festival the first week of August and the Maine Boats and Harbor Show in mid-August. The nearby town of Thomaston has an old fashion 4th of July celebration with a parade, barbaque and booths (10 minute drive), or visit the Maine Wild Blueberry Festival in August at the Union Common Ground Fair (45 minute drive). For more events check on-line...............................................

It's easy to while away a morning or afternoon in Rockland downtown in between these more adventurous activities, and it always has an ocean breeze even on those surprisingly hot Maine summer days.
