About the Property
Waterfront Cape for family of 10
The wood-paneled interior is simple, warm and welcoming. The open downstairs plan is great for family get-togethers. The kitchen, dining and living rooms open onto one another with expansive views over the harbor. A round dining-room table with a wide lazy susan seats ten easily. The kitchen has modern stainless appliances and is a wonderful group cooking area.
Once the sun has set over the horizon, mosquitoes sometimes venture out over the salt marsh, so settle down in the living room to play cribbage; retreat to the study to read, play the piano, listen to music or watch TV. Work is frowned upon while at Drakes, but there is wireless access if it will help relax you the next day on the beach.
Tuck yourself into one of 5 bedrooms, one master downstairs, or one of the four bedrooms upstairs, 2 with views over the harbor, and 2 with bunk beds that the kids will love.
If you haven’t read between the lines yet, this is a wonderful home that we are opening up for just a few weeks a year to a handful of special families who are looking for a memorable vacation. This is not an elegant resort, but a real home with family photos, shells we've collected over the years, and a rich layering of three generations. This special waterfront location has been host to several family weddings and is available to a few select others each summer.
Please let us know if you have any questions about this wonderful and cherished location. Good luck with your vacation search!

Drakes Island is a beautiful beach and harbor community with convenient access to many scenic southern Maine towns and attractions such as Ogunquit, Kennebunkport, York, and the outlets in Kittery. One could dock a fishing boat at the marina across the harbor and boat to the house and in the ocean at mid to high tide. A wonderful family vacation spot!
Year Purchased: 1960
About the owner: The family built this fitting Royal Barry Wills house on 6 acres of secluded waterfront real estate. It has been a family retreat for over 50 years. We have opened it up for a few weeks of summer rental to a few special families, and will consider it for weddings.
Why the Owner Chose Wells, ME, USA:
This beautiful waterfront land was owned for generations by a local family, who finally agreed to sell it to our charming parents in the late 1950s.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
This is a uniquely quiet and charming spot on Wells Harbor. It features a wonderfully changing view of tides, seals, birds, and harbor activity. The sunsets will remembered forever.
