About Helmi& Ron McHenry

Pat's Perch was build by Pat McHenry- Owners' dad. He choose this spot because of its views. He use local materials to build the stone fire place and the cedar ceilings. The house features art which highlight the Okanagan.

This location has been ideal for easy access to Okanagan Lake for swimming or boating, biking and running but also for hiking, golf, sailing and other water recreation. In the winter this spot is short distance away from the APEX ski resort near Penticton and other down hill and Cross Country ski resorts such as Big White and SilverSTAR.

We have a private suite below the rental property which we sometimes use when we visit. We live in St.Albert, Alberta.

Helmi& Ron McHenry purchased this chateau / country house in 2007

Why Helmi& Ron McHenry chose Thompson Okanagan

A beautiful and private home allowing you to immerse yourself into the Okanagan life style! Great Location, Spectacular Views! The rates are low to make this a competitive choice. The location is special because it is beautifully situated overlooking the best of what the Okanagan region has to offer: Endless recreation opportunities, fruit orchards, vineyards, wineries etc yet peaceful with amazing views of the local mountains, incredible sunsets/sunrises, a quaint country experience but walking distance to town amenities. A very short 5 minute drive to the Okanagan lake front, local golf and only a 15 min drive to Penticton with additional beaches, sailing, golf, hiking and many other recreation opportunities.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Summerland and Penticton offer farmers markets, music festivals, sport facilities, golf courses, boating and sailing etc. During the summer, there are triathlon and other sport events to choose from. Additional updated information on events and amenities available in the suite.

Great location/ available host

  • 4 of 5

The location was very handy for us. The place is a bit run down and yard was cluttered and not well maintained but it suited our purpose for a jumping off point for exploring the surrounding areas.

Our stay in Summerland was very relaxing and enjoyable.

  • 3 of 5

We found the property to be " tired". Although the suite was comfortable it could definitely use some care. The kitchen in particular ends attention. There was a drawer missing, left over opened food stuff in the fridge, a cup of grease on the counter to name a few things. Although there was a washer in the suite it is not usable- no water hook up. Thanks to Ron who let us use the washer and dryer in the main floor suite, we did not have to go to the laundromat. The property on which the house sits is not particularly inviting. It could use a clean up. Location is very good. We found the Summerland Golf and Country Club located nearby to be our second home. We enjoyed our stay in the Okanagan but truthfully were disappointed in our lodging.

Owner's Response: Hi Sheila I am sorry you were not completely happy during your stay. We leave some condiments in the fridge thinking guests would appreciate using these. Not having laundry facilities has not been an issue in the past but we plan to have it available for next year; plumbing complications have prevented us from having that washer connected. Ron tried to accommodate you and would have taken care of any of these kind of concerns if you had mentioned it. Hope you will consider staying with us again in the future! Greetings, Helmi

Cozy Rental

  • 5 of 5

VRBO dropped the ball on this rental. I booked in May for a stay in December. They took my service fee but never submitted my request for this rental. I only discovered it when I went to submit my final fee in December. Luckily it was still available and Helmi bent over backwards to make sure it worked. She is a wonderful host and I am thankful for all her help. The house was located perfectly for what I was looking for and I will definitely be back. The master bed was a bit tight as others have mentioned, but everything else was exactly as pictured.

Nice stay again

  • 4 of 5

This was our second stay at the Pat’s perch. The place is quiet and spacious and location is great: close to the beaches, downtown area, wineries, parks. We enjoyed our morning coffee on the deck with beautiful views. Owner is easy to deal with.

The owner mentioned that they were considering a new bed for the master bedroom which would make the stay here perfect.
