About Helmi& Ron McHenry

Pat's Perch was build by Pat McHenry- Owners' dad. He choose this spot because of its views. He use local materials to build the stone fire place and the cedar ceilings. The house features art which highlight the Okanagan.

This location has been ideal for easy access to Okanagan Lake for swimming or boating, biking and running but also for hiking, golf, sailing and other water recreation. In the winter this spot is short distance away from the APEX ski resort near Penticton and other down hill and Cross Country ski resorts such as Big White and SilverSTAR.

We have a private suite below the rental property which we sometimes use when we visit. We live in St.Albert, Alberta.

Helmi& Ron McHenry purchased this chateau / country house in 2007

Why Helmi& Ron McHenry chose Summerland

A beautiful and private home allowing you to immerse yourself into the Okanagan life style! Great Location, Spectacular Views! The rates are low to make this a competitive choice. The location is special because it is beautifully situated overlooking the best of what the Okanagan region has to offer: Endless recreation opportunities, fruit orchards, vineyards, wineries etc yet peaceful with amazing views of the local mountains, incredible sunsets/sunrises, a quaint country experience but walking distance to town amenities. A very short 5 minute drive to the Okanagan lake front, local golf and only a 15 min drive to Penticton with additional beaches, sailing, golf, hiking and many other recreation opportunities.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Summerland and Penticton offer farmers markets, music festivals, sport facilities, golf courses, boating and sailing etc. During the summer, there are triathlon and other sport events to choose from. Additional updated information on events and amenities available in the suite.

Comfortable house to stay in with privacy all around.

  • 4 of 5

House fit 5 adults comfortably and had everything we needed. We were comfortable and enjoyed the extra deck space. Only strange experience was being asked to dump the trash at a gas station which seems concerning and not appropriate. Trash removal should be covered by the cleaning fee. Other than that we enjoyed the house, especially the steaming hot showers.

Quiet mountain side view, surrounded by nature

  • 5 of 5

You are in the city, but you see the city from afar... the mountain side makes the house - more like a cabin - feel like a small oasis surrounded by trees, bushes, flowers and the Sonora desert... Several families of quails make their nests somewhere around the property and there are lots of other kinds of birds. My wife claims she saw three raccoons the first night, but I could not agree to that... Raccoons in the desert? Really?

We could have brought our daughters with us as there is an extra bedroom with two beds, but they have now their own vacations...

Very spacious and clean and quiet house (top floor) - 3 km or so away from highway 97 - with a large veranda on the side. For lazy breakfasts or afternoon tea or coffee. It was hard to leave, it felt like home... so different from a commercial hotel or motel room. We miss it already!

Great location for Summerland

  • 5 of 5

Set off in a very peaceful location within Summerland, this house/cabin is a great place to base oneself for activities in the area. It is very tidy and more than met our needs. Very nice owners of the property as well...great to deal with.

Great location/ available host

  • 4 of 5

The location was very handy for us. The place is a bit run down and yard was cluttered and not well maintained but it suited our purpose for a jumping off point for exploring the surrounding areas.

Cozy Rental

  • 5 of 5

VRBO dropped the ball on this rental. I booked in May for a stay in December. They took my service fee but never submitted my request for this rental. I only discovered it when I went to submit my final fee in December. Luckily it was still available and Helmi bent over backwards to make sure it worked. She is a wonderful host and I am thankful for all her help. The house was located perfectly for what I was looking for and I will definitely be back. The master bed was a bit tight as others have mentioned, but everything else was exactly as pictured.
