Lake Cushman is a beautiful reservoir lake at the base of the Olympic National Park. During the summer months the lake is kept at full capacity. This is when we enjoy the water with swimming and boating. In the fall to help with flood control, Tacoma Power lowers the lake level. During this time, it is difficult to launch a power boat and it is the time to enjoy the trails and views.

About Elisa Corcoran

On a lark we took a drive to Lake Cushman. It was only our second time there but we fell in love with this property and decided to buy it that day. In a way, it reminded us of our years living in Ireland. The weather changes yet we remain snug in the ease and contentment of our special place. Over the last ten years we have steadily improved our get away.

We would like to share this with you.

Elisa Corcoran purchased this house in 2003

Why Elisa Corcoran chose Hoodsport

Ten years ago we stumbled upon Lake Cushman and this beautiful house perched upon high ground with amazing views. We knew we had found our family get away spot. We loved the idea of owning just outside the National Park with all the activities in and around the lake.

What makes this house unique

In the summer when the lake is full, the water is warm and great for swimming. We can fish, hike, pick berries and hunt for mushrooms. When we did not own a boat we could rent one. The air is clean and the water is pure. It is usually very quiet and we can watch the deer, elk and birds. In Fall the vine maples provide wonderful color. Winter months can bring snow and the scenery takes on a whole different view.

The house was beautiful with great views, all in the perfect NW setting. Being able to have the dogs with us made our stay that even more awesome! Couldn't recommend staying here more, we will definitely be back!!

We had a hard time finding the dish washing sope but we did find it. The sun room smelled liked smoke right when we got there but we kept all doors open with screen doors shut and the fan going for 3 days to fight it. We don't smoke so that was hard. Everything else was very nice thank you

Owner's Response: Timothy, I'm so sorry that you had to experience that. We are non-smokers as well and as you must have noticed we have several "No Smoking" signs posted around the house. I will make sure that our "Welcome Letter" stresses that fact. I wish that all of our guests are courteous and responsible tenants. There is that small percentage of folks that are not and we have to accept that as fact.

A beautiful confy and private house with great view of the lake and forest

  • 5 of 5

We celebrated my dad's 80th b'day at this beautiful location. It was perfect and well worth it. The house was spacious and clean and the kitchen well stocked. Not a far drive to the waterfront and boat launch area, but with a great partial view of the lake from the house deck. It was great to have internet access as there is no cell reception at Cushman in most places and the TV had all the popular movie channels included. We had a great time. Thankyou!

Comfortable, immaculate house with woodsy solitude

  • 5 of 5

This comfortable, extremely clean house sits on a hillside above tranquil Lake Cushman with some views of the mountainsides at the edge of Olympic National Park. There are other houses nearby, but the layout is such that we only saw them from the road, not the lake side. Every detail in the house has been carefully done and the furnishings are home quality (not cheap rental quality). From the balcony we immediately noticed the sound of true quiet -- we could hear the lapping of waves below. The location is about 14 miles inland from highway 101 in Hoodsport; a few miles further is the entrance to the National Park, and there are various hiking trails nearby. Note that it takes 20 minutes to drive back to 101 and there are no fancy restaurants in Hoodsport, so going out to dinner would be a journey. Instead, on the way in we bought groceries in Hoodsport at the IGA (which is a fine mid-sized grocery store) and enjoyed cooking meals at the house. We would definitely return. One could spend all day on the balcony or on the adjoining screen porch if it is raining, reading or writing. Also, the owners were promptly in touch by email and were very helpful and courteous.

Car: necessary

Most of the housing at Lake Cushman is governed by the 'Lake Cushman Maintenance Company'. Among other activities LCMC maintains the streets, water system, local community parks and boat docks and provides security patrols. Owners and Non-owners are required to display car passes on their cars when using they park at the several community parks. The owner is required to obtain guest passes good for 3 days at a time from LCMC during business hours in advance. They charge $10.00. Use of the boat launches also require a different pass. LCMC does not allow ANY boats to be tied up to a community dock overnight. This requires boat haul out each day. The launch fee does not apply to water craft that may be carried in and launched from shore. If you anticipate parking at the park or launching there please let us know in advance so we can procure the needed passes for you.

Parking at the lake shore along the Forest Service Road is free.

Olympic National Park charges an entry fee as well to enter at the 'Staircase Rapids' entry. They charge a minimum of $15.00 for a 3 day day use pass. Other types of passes are available also. We recommend a visit to the park.
