About Beth

True New Englanders. We have lived in the area all of our adult lives and are well versed in what to do, where to go, where to eat, best sightseeing, etc.

We really enjoy sharing tips on great places to dine, beaches, nature walks, tours and more.

Beth purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Beth chose Rhode Island

Our location is amazing. A pastoral setting yet only a few minutes to Newport and Bristol and the beaches. Nearby there is a fantastic farm market, Sweet Berry Farm Market, an orchard, 2 vineyards, polo fields, bridal/walking trail, 2 beaches, wildlife refuge, bird sanctuary, farmers markets, and much more.

Come for a weekend, a month, the holidays or a summer.

A very pleasant retreat from the hustle and bustle of Newport and workdays. Sit on one of the two decks, and enjoy the view, or walk across to take a walk through farmland and next to the golf course.

A true getaway.

What makes this cottage unique

This is a place of peace and quiet, surrounded by nature.

Enjoy the views of farmland with cattle and chicken in the pastures to the east. Newport National Golf Course, a beautiful and challenging course is across the street to the west and is open to the public, as is the Sakonnet Greenway walking and bridal trail. Spend the day site seeing, swimming, riding, or boating. Come for a quick change and go to the polo match at the no of the street.

Enjoy our vegetables and flowers when in season, or the many types of birds that visit our feeders, or just listen to the newborn birds living in our arbor in the flowering hydrangea vines.

Cross the street to enter miles of walking and bridal trails of the Sakonnet Greenway.

Hibernate inside with a good book, or basic cable tv and Internet.

Enjoy cooking in the kitchen while your guests sit at the bar.

RI Monthly Magazine has named our street one of the best streets to live in RI. Visit and see why.

Outstanding

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at Valentine Farm. My wife and I stayed at Beth's property for six weeks. The place had everything we were looking for: close to Newport and the Beaches; wonderful views from the deck; a private entrance and peace and quiet. We were well-met by Beth on arrival and the property had everything you would need for a six week stay: WI-FI, optional professional cleaners; small but efficient washer/dryer, air conditioning for the summer heat and private parking. Our favorite feature of the property was the private rooftop deck with stunning bucolic views and sunrises. A great place to relax.

One recommendation for long term future renters: bring your laptop with HBO and Cable applications along with a HDMI cable. Beth's TV set up is basic but her TV will accommodate HDMI input.

We had a great time and plan to return.

Fantastic location! Great Stay :)))))

  • 5 of 5

My recent stay at Beth's cozy little paradise was amazing! Beth herself is very warm and a great host! Beth's home was very easy to get to and close to everything in Newport. The place was stocked and set up perfectly, as advertised. One of the best parts was the welcoming from Beth with a nice bottle of the local wine an cheese :))) We loved the views from her home and all the local places around it. I most definitely will be back to stay again and would highly recommend to anyone. Thank you Beth!!!

Peaceful Location perfect for R&R

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had spent some time in Boston & then Providence and were in need of some R&R after that experience. We were fortunate to come across this stunning cottage with availability so we were eager to book it for 2+ weeks. It's tastefully decorated and clean. The LR couch is super comfortable with plenty of other seating and a stunning view from the door wall looking out to a farm. The small dining set and bar with seating between the kitchen and LR was perfect for working on your laptop. My only suggestions for the first floor would be a larger TV (maybe I just need glasses :)) and a little decluttering of knick knacks to make room for the travelers stuff (maybe I have too much stuff :)). The bathroom is the nicest bathroom we've had the pleasure of using in all the VRBO/HomeAway rentals we've rented. Loved Loved Loved the heat feature (we're from Florida). Only suggestion in that regards is some extra hand towels and washcloths. Lots of storage space in the bedroom if you over pack like we always do. The bed was super comfortable. One thing I'd add to the bedroom is a TV for those who enjoy that. The kitchen was really nice too. Nice quality and clean appliances with the added bonus of a European W/D so you don't have to go to the laundry mat. Although it takes a LONG time to complete a load, I'd recommend a back up set of sheets. (Maybe I missed them somewhere. If I asked Beth for an extra set she would have brought them to me but I just never did) The kitchen is well stocked and Beth is excellent at providing items that you may be missing from your own kitchen. Beth was a pleasure to deal with and we enjoyed spending an evening getting to know her and having some wine and cheese and crackers. She's super cool and well informed and I think anyone who is lucky enough to get a vacancy at this special cottage will enjoy their experience with her. She had fresh cut flowers (one of my favorite things) throughout the cottage upon our arrival. I would definitely highly recommend this special place and will be returning again for sure! For those not familiar with the area, we found it a refreshing escape with just a short drive to the beach and town when you're up for that scene but we were very appreciative we had a quiet peaceful place to hang out when we wanted to. Thanks so much for making your cottage available to us! Enjoy your summer and we hope to see you again!

Kind regards, Jen & Brian

Owner's Response: Thank you! It was a pleasure having you as guests, even better to spend some time with you. I enjoyed your comments! I try to provide a stylish, comfortable environment for guests. Most are traveling light when they stay so I put out some decorative items to make things seem homier. As you found, there are plenty of places to tuck those away to personalize the space to your needs. I do stock a fully equipped kitchen but am always happy to provide other items as needed. Most people never use all the towels I provide! I guess everyone is different! And yes, the washer dryer which is a one piece unit takes more time. I always suggest doing laundry overnite or while you are out for the day. It's a pretty efficient machine, doing both washing and drying. It is a major space saver too. I am so happy you enjoyed your visit and would love to see you when you are back in town. Thank you for taking the time to write the review. Wishing you all he best. Xxx beth

wonderfull !!!!

We stayed at this lovely getaway for our daughter's wedding in Newport. Beth was so helpful in so many ways and explained a route we were able to take to Newport that took no more than 12 minutes avoiding most of the summer Newport traffic.. The place itself had everything we could possibly want as well as a few extra surprises Beth stocked for us. We grilled dinner and ate outside with a view that was beautiful. We will be sure to keep this place in mind next time we want to stay in the Newport area.

Valentine Farm

  • 5 of 5

I arrived very late at night and was greeted warmly by Beth who stayed up to make sure I arrived safely. She had snacks for me that were greatly appreciated. I was in the area to help my daughter, who is in the Coast Guard, move into her new apartment. This Valentine Farm cottage was the perfect location for my week long adventure. Beth gave me suggestions for finding what I needed--I loved the Berry Farm Market. My daughter and I had great meals out, fun Newport Mansion sightseeing, and time to catchup talking into the night. I even was able to find my way to the local movie theater. I have very fond memories of my recent stay and will miss the cows mooing in the morning, all kinds of beautiful birds enjoying the bird feeder, and noises of wild turkeys in the early evening.

Serenity!

  • 5 of 5

After a very stressful few months, I was desperately seeking a quick get-a-way to rejuvenate.

I stumbled upon this wonderful cottage and quickly booked it.

Together with my husband, teenager daughter and our pooch we eagerly set out.

It was perfect! Beautifully decorated, clean, comfortable, quiet, and peaceful.

Beth was a wonderful host. She gave us insights on places to go and things to do.

There is so much to do. The beauty is that you are so close to Newport yet away from the

crowds. Great restaurants all near by.

We will most definitely return!

Third Beach/Sandy Point Beach
Car: necessary

Valentine Farm is conveniently located on the Portsmouth/Middletown Line. Wapping Road was voted one of the best streets to live on by RI monthly Magazine in 2013.

At each end there is a road that leads to a beach (Third Beach in Middletown and Sandy Point Beach , Portsmouth). These are close and an easy bike ride especially to Third Beach which is small and sits on the South end of the Sakonnet River. Just beyond is Sachuest Wildlife Center which is known for its walking paths, wildlife and bird sightings and Atlantic Ocean views. It has an interesting Education Center for visitors. The last 2 years great viewing of the white arctic owl.

Other points of interest are many. On Wapping Rd you will have access to the Sakonnet Greenway which offers miles of walking trails and bridal paths through Land Trust property, farms and Newport National Golf Course.

Just South on Wapping is a pick your own orchard and just North on Wapping is Greenvale Vineyard both are an easy walk and are open to the public.

Just North of Wapping Rd is Newport Polo Fields where international play occurs several months per year on weekends. Tailgaiting is encouraged. Enjoy watching the powerful riders and horses compete. Get out on the field at halftime and join other guests to help to patch the divots. Bring a picnic, a blanket and some chairs and enjoy an exciting evening.

At the south end of Wapping Rd is Sweet Berry Farm. It is frequented and run by locals from April thru December. It has many Pick-Your-Own fields, from apples and berries to pumpkins and Christmas trees. Have lunch, shop for fresh breads, local honey, veggies, fruits, pastries, gifts, or just get a cup of coffee and people watch.

Be careful as you drive south to Sweet Berry Farm as there is a large flock of wild tureys that seem to own the roads!

On Third Beach Road, you will find horse stables, as well as the Norman Bird Sanctuary ---a true gem. Walk the trails, bird watch, visit the shop. It is a great place for nature lovers, and families. They are famous for their annual Harvest Fair in October and their wonderful May Breakfast, both wonderful community events.

Beyond Third Beach is Second (Sachuest Beach), where surfers can often be seen. Just up the hill on Purgatory Rd you will pass the beautiful and exclusive St Georges Boarding School and at the end of Purgatory Rd you will arrive in a neighborhood of restaurants, shops, and Eastons Beach (First Beach) in Newport. It has many activities for families and children in its rotunda.

From First Beach on you are heading to Newport's famed harbor front, the spectacular mansions, history, culture and fine architecture abound. As well as a large selection of fine eating establishments and shops.

Most of the above and much more are located within 10 minutes of our location.

We are an easy drive to Salve Regina, Roger Williams University, and the US Naval Base.

Valentine Farm overlooks Aquidneck Farm, where their breeding herd delivers many calves in spring. The surrounding pasturelands and open space make for a romantic quiet get away while being just minutes from Newport and Bristol, RI.

The Cottage has two stories . The second level has a large open deck from wich to enjoy the panoramic pastoral view, entertain, or just relax and sit in the sun.

This is a great spot for honeymooners!
