Tuckaway Cottage is a quaint and quiet cottage settled among pine and maple trees where one spots deer and turkeys sharing paths in the beautiful outskirts of Ephraim. This one-of-a-kind eclectic cottage has many handmade features to welcome you; most notable are a machine-pieced-and-quilted star quilt by the owner and a unique 3-D village of yesteryear which surrounds the living room/bedroom. The artistic interpretation of an old-fashioned village was handcrafted by a young man from St. Paul, assisted by the owner's family members. As night falls, settle under the mini lights of this unique village.
The accommodations include a comfortable air-conditioned living room/bedroom combination, a fully equipped kitchen/dining area, and a full bath. An adjacent side deck with table and chairs awaits your plans for dining outdoors. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishes, silverware, utensils, pots and pans, an apartment-size refrigerator, coffeemaker, electric stove, and microwave. The cottage is furnished with a queen bed, pillows, blankets, bed linens, and even an alarm clock. A fold-out cot is available for a young child upon request. A color TV with satellite and DVD player awaits your enjoyment. Bring along your favorite DVD or check out the few available at the cottage.
The cottage is located on the north side of Ephraim at the corner of Hwy 42 and South Coral Hill Road. This quiet location is within walking and biking distance from the restaurants, shops and waterfront in Ephraim (however, children are advised to be accompanied on busy Hwy 42 by an adult). The cottage is also just minutes from Sister Bay.
You must visit this unbelievable cottage, perfect for honeymooners and couples preferring a quiet setting for the 3 Rs: relaxation, reading, reconnecting. Perhaps you will allow time to experience the state parks, especially nearby Peninsula State Park and Golf Course, the nature trails, bike and boat rentals, the notable outdoor movie theater just south of Ephraim, and Door County outdoor fish boils, especially the one in Ephraim at the Old Post Office restaurant. There are excellent theater presentations, a plethora of concerts, and an array of gift, art and antique shops throughout the county.
A grill is available to make a juicy steak or burger, giving you a choice between dining in or eating out, but don't miss Wilson's Ice Cream Shop in Ephraim for that tasty treat while cooling off on a hot summer day.
A double-sized hammock calls you come outside under the big tree for a relaxing time in the backyard.
Please note that check in is after 4:00 p.m. and check out is by 10:00 a.m. Contact owner Fran Richter if you need special consideration on these posted times.
I have lived in Wisconsin all of my life. Growing up on a farm in the Rib Mountain area, I left country life after high school to attend St. Norbert College, met my 1st husband there, and settled in the Green Bay area for over 20 years. We moved to Ephraim in 1994 and I fell in love with Door County, its people, and the beauty of its landscape. After he died, I remained in the area, remarried, and now live in Jacksonport with my 2nd husband, who has helped me ready my Ephraim cottage to be a wonderful vacation rental. Without him, I would never have been able to offer my cottage to vacationers.
Fran Richter purchased this cottage in 1994
This little cottage is what sold us on the Door County property. My first husband and I fell in love with the uniqueness of the building and wanted to share it with visitors to the area. The cottage has been through two major decorating changes since 1994, the latest one by the handiwork of my second and present husband. We feel the cottage has become even more welcoming and comfortable. Come enjoy this cozy place and experience Door County from our very central point.
Quiet site, conveniently located just off Highway 42, close to both Ephraim and Sister Bay, with shopping, restaurants, water views, and local attractions within minutes of the cottage.
nice comfortable, clean and everything we needed. Friendly people
The cabin is just as promised. Very clean and nicely decorated. Great location, quiet but close to all of the activity in Ephraim and Sister Bay. Lots of great places to eat we tried The Wild Tomato, Grasse's Grill and Great Eggs and all were great! Be sure to check out The Singing Donut hidden in downtown Ephraim they will custom make you a cake donut however you like it. We rode bikes in Peninsula State park and spent one evening watching the sunset on the beach. Thank you for sharing your cabin with us.
We found Tuckaway Cottage to be exactly what we wanted for our three day visit to Door County! The online pictures and description were accurate for this charming one room lodging, and Fran, the owner, was very prompt in all replies and in accommodating our special requests. The central location on Highway 42 made it easy to reach all parts of Door County. We highly recommend Tuckaway Cottage!
Cottage was very clean and comfortable. Convenient to everything in Door County!
This was our first visit to Door Co. The location is wonderful, close to two of the busier bays, Sister and Ephraim.
Bed is comfy but water pressure is weak and if two showers are back to back water heater is small.
It was annoying that the host requires the dishes to be washed, trash removed and bed linens bundled while still charging a cleaning fee.
If paying a premium prefer to get up and leave.
All being said, I would return to the cottage and the Host is very responsive.
We enjoyed our stay at Fran's cottage and it met our expectations in every way. Small, cozy, yet had everything we would need for a 5 day stay. It was in a perfect location in the middle of Door County; easy access to all the other charming towns. Fran met us and was very gracious. It was very clean and had a wonderful cottage feeling. It was perfect for our stay!
Tuckaway Cottage is just minutes from Wisconsin's well-known Peninsula State Park where one can bike, picnic, swim, camp, enjoy outdoor activities and attend a theater in the park.
Ephraim is a favorite subject for artists painting landscapes, waterscapes, boats, and fantastic sunsets seen from Anderson Dock. The fall color is spectacular as one views the State Park across the water. Wilson's Ice Cream Shop is a must for your taste buds.
