About Sharon Lassila
Sharon grew up in the Winton area and has pictures of fish she caught from the dock back when she was 5!
Sharon Lassila purchased this Cabin in 1990
Why Sharon Lassila chose Winton
This cabin has all the comforts of home and located on the Western half of Fall Lake where canoeing, kayaking and motor boats are allowed. The Eastern half of Fall Lake is inside the BWCAW which only allows canoeing! United States Forest Service permits are REQUIRED to enter the other half of the lake. www.USFS.gov or contact the local office in Ely.
What makes this Cabin unique
The semi private yard is lush with green trees! Ducks and loons swim in the bay! And it's fun to catch fish near shore! BBQ and campfire!! The Fourth and Blueberry Festivals in July. BluesFest and Watercross Snowmobile Event in August! Harvest Moon Festival weekend after Labor Day. Fall Colors in September and October!!
Awesome Time in Winton/Ely
We had a great time in the Winton/Ely area. Even though the temperature was a bit chilly the sun was out so it was actually very nice. The people were extremely friendly We loved the cabin. It had everything we needed. The heat worked great and beds were very comfortable. Would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice getaway. We went to the Winton roadhouse which was nice. We really loved Samz, especially the people. If you are not familiar with the area I would go to Samz and chat up some of the locals. Many of the work for the MNDNR and have great tips on things to do/not to do.
So glad that you made yourselves at home!
Do come back to see us in the spring when the walleyes practically jump into your boat!
Thanks again !
older home on lake
Fairly small but very clean and looks to be recently remodeled. Sheet in cabin says bunkbed is rated for children under 100 lbs. But yet 4 adults were booked there. We slept on bottom bunk and cot verses the top bunk just to be safe. The cot in the extra room was a bit saggy so I got a sore back. Wish there had been two big beds in main bedroom and the bunkbed in the spare room instead. Was a bit musty smelling when we got there so we burned incense to freshen it up. Bathroom very clean. Kitchen had all we needed. There is a small row boat on site.
We had a wonderful time!
The cabin was amazing and the location was perfect! We would absolutely stay again!
I am so glad you had a great time! It is convenient to many activities, but being on the lake, it is open to watercraft and fishing experiences.
Please do come back! It was nice to have you!
Nice little cabin on the lake
We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay for us and our kids. This is a very neat, clean cabin which is good for a family of 4. We highly recommend it!
Lovely updated cabin in a great location.
Photos don't do this cabin justice! The Fall Lake cabin is well kept, and updated with nice flooring and knotty pine walls. We loved the close location to Ely to pop over and visit relatives and shop. Our favorite part of the lake was watching all the eagles (two spent a couple days in the tree right next to the cabin!) and the loons. We brought our kayaks and the nice little beach at the cabin made for easy in and out onto the lake and for storing them right on shore. We also took a trip to Kiwishiwi Falls trail nearby which is a great little hike with a big payoff of beautiful falls. Reading all the other reviews I would agree with most of them, so I will try to add a couple things that might be helpful that I didn't read. There was a neighbor right next door home on the bedroom side of the cabin, but we never saw, or heard them; just a light on in the place. It was a very quiet location. There was no mirror in the bathroom other than a tiny decorative one above the toilet. I wear contacts, and like to look in a mirror when I get ready in the morning, so this was a bit of a challenge. There also wasn't a screen on the nice large bathroom window and it would have been nice to open it at times! Mosquitos were abound, so I didn't dare try and open it without a screen. There were plenty of outlets everywhere, and a fan to use in the bedroom which we did! (It was 80+ degrees on our days there.) Also it was nice to have a little AC in the main living room/kitchen area. The bedroom was much larger and spacious than I gathered from the photos on the VRBO site. It was a good size for the 4 of us (two adults, two kids 12 & 14) with a large closet. Our 14 year old didn't want to bunk with us all so he chose the "daybed" which he said was not very comfortable at all for sleeping. But he did have the option of the bunk bed which he declined! I would have loved if there was a map of Fall Lake with specific info on it to refer to at the cabin, if there was, I missed it. I would recommend this cabin to anyone and really appreciated the fact that I didn't have to book an entire week, because that never works for our situation. I appreciate Sharon being so responsive when booking!
