About the property

2 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, Sleeps 6

Town - Private setting just 3 blocks walk to Taos plaza, 18 miles to Taos Ski Valley

Adobe Arboleda - "House of the Grove" so named because of the lush ambiance of tall shade trees surrounding this magnificent home in the heart of town. Years ago, shortly after taking possession, former owners learned that an enormous 150 year-old willow in the back yard was dying. They stopped at no length or expense to save the precious tree and it stands today to thrill all who visit this oasis. To commemorate the significance, the owners commissioned a graceful image of "Safe Willow" to be carved on the door of the wine glass cabinet in the great room. The cabinet remains for guests enjoy.

Offering a lush private setting, expansive tree-shaded yard / lawn and in the heart of town off historical Kit Carson Road. As an added bonus the completely enclosed yard is surrounded with Aspen latilla fencing and gate. Such enclosing, so popular in Santa Fe and Taos, is fondly called "Coyote fence". Spring, summer and autumn are special months for enjoying the upscale patio with giant "portale" (Spanish for "covered patio and/or walkway) for extended outdoor living. Furnished with large upgraded stainless gas grill, large patio table and Hot tub, guests have all the makings for 8 months of outdoor dining and entertainment and 12 months of relaxing and soaking in the hot tub.

The century old completely renovated adobe has a wood burning Kiva fireplace, hand-hewn vigas, and radiant-heated floors. The hand-trowelled plaster nichos and alcove ceilings enhance the entire home.

Included in the great room is the custom designed gourmet kitchen boasting pull out drawers that house stainless cook ware and appliances. Granite counters, hand crafted cabinets and well stocked condiments will delight foodies.

Two well separated master suites (with private entrances), afford total privacy - one up and one down - no shared walls, ceilings or floors. Both suites offer upscale luxury bathrooms. The second floor master suite offers a commanding view of Taos Pueblo Peak. It includes a luxurious soaking tub for two, comfortably sloped at either end. The first floor master, with sliding glass door, opens out to the inviting yard and patio and is completely sound proofed from the rest of the house. (The powder room at the entry hall allows living-room sleepers their own privacy too!)

Many upscale luxury touches throughout this gracious home enhance this rare, private, secluded in town oasis. Situated directly across the road from award-winning El Monte Sagrado resort, restaurant and lounge, this luxury Taos vacation rental is a five minute tree lined walk from Taos Plaza.

One Taos vacation lodging experience at "Adobe Arboleda" is guaranteed to please and have you dreaming to return to the magic of Taos.

The house was beautiful and had all the essentials. I loved the yard and how quiet the area was. I also enjoyed walking downtown while others slept-in.

We went to Taos to see the Dwight Yoakam concert, raft and hike. My kids who are now in their 20's had not been to Taos before. The location was good, easy walking distance to the plaza and concert with no parking to worry about. The Adobe Arboleda is a fun and pretty house. You have to expect monsoon rains in late July and it did rain. It felt good for us coming from desert. We did most activities in the mornings.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed staying at Adobe Arboleda for the first time and plan on returning next year!! Beautiful home with all amenities. Quiet, spacious and delightful! A great stay in the summer with all old shade trees and beautiful yard, but would also be a great skiing retreat in the winter!! Looking forward to next year already....

This property was a fabulous place to stay during our visit to Taos. The location made walking to the plaza and restaurants/bars a fun thing to do. The house was beautiful and fully met and exceeded our expectations.

Only good thing was location, terrible experience

  • 2 of 5

We arrived on Thanksgiving day at 2:30 p.m. and it was cold in the house with the thermostat set at 60. The welcome book said the day of your arrival the caretaker will set the heat to 70. Long story short, the caretaker didn't do it, and ultimately the heater (and thermostat) was broke. We called the caretaker and the repairmen did a temporary fix on Friday until a part could arrive, but unfortunately the temp fix made it unbearably hot for the day and night, then we woke up the next day to freezing temps indoors again.

Unfortunately, that wasn't the only bad thing. The house was really dirty. You could write "clean me" in the dust on the shelves including the shelves with the doors closed, like the wine glass cabinet that you had to open to turn on the kitchen lights. I had to wipe the dust off a magazine to look at it. So needless to say, not trusting the cleanliness, we were washing dishes to use them.

We renting this because of the pet friendliness and location. Location is great, across the street from El Dorado hotel (great place for drinks.) But, again, leading to the uncleanliness, there was dog hair on the sheets.

After our visit, I contacted the rental company Premiere Properties about our experience and spoke with Gary. He requested I write a letter so they could take it to the owner. I did that and sent it back to Gary. I have heard nothing from the owner or Premiere Properties. We definitely won't be staying here again and until they change some things, can't recommend it.

Reviewer Comments:

This house and yard are just lovely, with a great location within walking distance of the Taos Plaza district. Property management company was easy to work with. Do not rent this house, however, if you intend to bring a pet. Owner (not property manager) imposed a “damage” charge for dog hair on some blankets—even though a more reasonable extra cleaning charge could and should have been applied per the pet agreement. The pet agreement also stated that the owner acknowledged that dog hair would be left behind but, in emailing me afterwards, owner objected that I had not left the house as I found it. This, despite the fact that a full and thorough cleaning had not been stipulated as a requirement upon departure. Owner also did not take into account that we rented the house for a full month—which would naturally require more extensive cleaning—and that the housecleaning arranged by owner for middle of our stay did not occur. I expect the owner will refute my review, but this property is wrongly promoted as pet-friendly.
