Home away from home
Clean, comfortable, and well equipped on beautiful Pentwater Lake! Spacious garage was a bonus, especially when packing up to leave on a rainy day.
Renter was great and left our cottage very clean and tidy.
Great location, lovely home
We rented the cottage ( more like a Lake House) for 3 weeks. It was a great location, only minutes from downtown Pentwater and about 7 minutes from Lake Michigan. It was about 30 minutes from other attractions such as the Silver Lake Sand Dunes.
You can actually kayak from Pentwater Lake to Lake Michigan. The view of the water from the house is lovely and was so nice to wake up and see the water first thing! There's a large deck and easily accommodated 8 people.
The bedrooms were good sized and all were furnished with dressers, except for the second bedroom downstairs. The kitchen was well equipped with the exception of needing at least one more large skillet to accommodate cooking for 8 people. There were plentiful plates, cups, glasses, cookware, silverware, etc. Bathrooms were small but sufficient.
There is a seawall around the lake so getting in and out of kayaks from the dock was a bit challenging.
There were several things which needed to be repaired during our 3 week stay and the property manager was very prompt in addressing the situations.
Though there's a washer and dryer, the concentration of rust in the water is high and we ruined 3 shirts the first time we did laundry. So some sort of rust remover needs to be installed.
There is an open stairway to the basement which could be a problem if you are not careful. We had to purchase a baby gate to ensure that toddlers were safe. (We were provided with a gate promptly upon request but it required screwing into the wall and wasn't effective.)
There's a discrepancy between what's on the VRBO website and contract related to linens and size of beds. The VRBO website says linens are provided but the contract said we needed to bring our own. We flew from the West coast so when we asked the owner if they would provide linens, they did so. The on-line description says there are 2 Queens beds, but there is only 1 Queen size bed, 2 double beds, and though there are 2 twin beds, one only has a mattress without the box spring so it sat very low to the floor. It was perfect for small children, however. The mattresses were a bit hard for our comfort but others may find them quite suitable.
All in all, the cottage was very nice and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
