Overview

About the property

3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, Sleeps 6

Traveling north past Hanalei, you enter the dense jungle and intense blue waters of Kauai's far north shore. There are no words that can describe nature's beauty in this region. Many beaches, including tunnels and ke'e, are in the area. Trail heads for some of the most memorable hikes on earth are nearby.

The Wainiha beach house brings you old style Hawaii in a jungle setting with a stream flowing in your back yard. Built in 1963 of Polynesian design, the house was the dream of Peggy Slater, known as the Amelia Earhart of sailing. Waterfalls, rainbows, crashing surf, fragrant flowers and exotic colorful birds will surround you. Home has high speed wireless internet, phone, cable tv, and full kitchen.

Bedroom 1 has a King bed. Bedroom 2 has a King bed and Bedroom 3 has a Queen bed. There is A/C in the master bedroom.

Guestbook comments from the manager

The house was beautiful and the scenery around us was amazing! The house is an older home, but has so much character. The three bedrooms are "railroad" style where one is right after another, so you have to go through each room to get to the living area if you are at the very last room. (So keep in mind that there isn't much privacy) But, there are doors for each room that lead to the front lawn, so you can avoid going through each room if you don't mind going outside, then through the front door. Everyone was happy at the house and would go back again when visiting Kauai.

The beach is directly across the street and is a beautiful view to wake up to every morning. The only thing is that it isn't very easy to get to, but there are other beaches less than 5 minutes away that you can drive to.

Our family and friends adored the beautiful house on Kauai. Its proximity to the best beaches on the island is extraordinary, and there is an ocean view from each room. Thank you!!

The property was pretty much exactly as represented. Very pleasant indeed, though a little noisier than expected. Almost impossible to avoid the vacation of a lifetime in this place. :-)

Reviewer Comments:

we loved this house, it had everything we needed, i loved the huge windows i could open up and leave them open all night to listen to the wonderful sounds of the river and the waves crashing on the shore.they even had alot of beach supplies in the back sheds like boogie boards, snorkle equip. and surfbaords ect which i found out on the last day ( stupid me) after i rented everything they had LOL. i would definitely stay here again for sure, my wife even said she loved it too and that we should make this our GO TO place when we come back and i agree, i stayed at princeville condos in the past and i think this is a way better, i want my own place/house when i go on vacation and not look at a bunch of parking lots and carports and PEOPLE. i played frisbee in the front yard with my 3 year old son and bbq in the back at night time i even layed out some towels on the picnic table in the front yard and looked up at the beautiful abundant stars and watched for shooting stars. Oh and the beds were nice and super cozy too, most places have older or cheap or uncomfortable mattresses but these owners like to have their guests cozy, i can tell ) nice job guys, P.S. future guests, treat this place like it was your own such as use thin toilet paper, dont waste water and electricity and mayebe thoughtful and caring vacation prop. owners like these guys will keep the cost and a really respectable rate like they do now. enjoy your stay.

Reviewer Comments:

You couldn't ask for a more convenient location to explore the North Shore--just ten minutes from the beginning of the NaPali coast, 5 from Tunnels Beach, 1 from Lumahai Beach, 8 from the town of Hanalei. Rustic comfort--'old Hawaii' in a good way--that's how we'd describe this house. If you want glitzy spotless, get a condo in Princeville. If you want to go to sleep with ocean waves and frogs as a soundtrack, this is the place. Some people have complained about the road noise--it is true that the house is adjacent to a one-lane bridge, and the road is the only way around this part of the island, but at night the traffic drops to nothing, so it's quiet enough. The floor plan of the house is a bit weird--it's a 'shotgun' plan, meaning that you walk through one bedroom to get to the other...but it's not a dealbreaker, just takes getting used to. Only the master bedroom has a/c, but you won't even need it, since all the windows open and the breezes are abundant. However, the ceiling fan and the tv in the master bedroom never did work. I checked the batteries, etc., nothing worked. Fortunately, we weren't there to watch TV, but with the price you're paying for the house, everything needs to be in working order. (Also, although the house was clean enough, it was not 'spotless' on arrival.)

Reviewer Comments:

I am story to say I cannot give this place a good review. From the very beginning communication with Liz from Country Brokers was unsatisfactory. Two days before our arrival I e-mailed her and called her to leave messages that we needed to know how to get the key or to gain access to the house. We heard nothing. We arrrived there at 6 PM hoping to find it unlocked but it was not. Our efforts to call her, contact her, were fruitless. We finally contacted Home Away folks and after nearly an hour on hold with them, either they were finally able to get through to her, or she finally got our messages, and her response was "Are you in yet?" How in the world would we have gotten in, short of taking off a screen and crawling through an open window? Poor, poor, poor. The picture leads you to believe you might have acccess to that ocean in front of you, but you do not. The house is right on the road and right in front of a bridge with loose planks that rattled EVERY time a car drove across so it was impossible to sleep with windows open. And too stuffy to sleep with them closed. The 3 bedrooms are laid out in a row and you have to walk through the first to get to the second and then thru the second to get to the third. The bathroom walls between the 2nd and 3rd bedroom do not go all the way to the ceiling, at least in the back bedroom, so you hear all bathroom noise. The house had a musty smell. The bed in the 3rd bedroom was very nice, the one in the 1st bedroom sagged to the middle. The washer/dryer were very nice to have and worked just fine. The Wi-Fi was very good. It was nice to have beach chairs, boogie boards, towels and coolers available for our use. There was no hand soap provided in the bathrooms which would have been nice.

Owner's Response: We are sorry you didnt fully enjoy your stay. We want all of our guests to have an exceptional experience. The description of the bedroom layout is clearly stated in our verbage as well as beach access. THe lead picture is the actual view. As you will see in the other reviews most guests fully enjoy the charm, quaint feel and old hawaii style that this home offers. Hopefully you can come back and stay in another more suitable property in the future! Mahalo
