The Lakehouse is convenient to everything and is located on Laurel Lake & Rte. 20. It is 2 miles from the MA Turnpike and is easily accessible to Berkshire attractions, outdoor activities, and shopping.
The house is casual and comfortable and beautifully decorated for lakeside living. The 'backyard' is maintenance free, as you are less than 20 ft. From the lake. There is a beautiful awning and maple-shaded, stone patio with recessed lights, a large barbecue grill and lawn furniture. In addition, there is a changing shed, hot tub, outdoor shower, kayaks, canoe and row boat that come with the property. For added fun, there is a water slide (built into the dock wall).
When you enter the house from the water level, there are 2 sets of French doors that open into the Great Room and kitchen. The kitchen has stainless steel appliances with a large separate refrigerator and freezer (commercial) and an electric, commercial double oven. There is also a 5 burner gas range, dishwasher, disposal (yes, public water & sewer - no septic) and trash compactor. The kitchen also has granite counter tops, a bar area with 4 barstools, microwave and toaster oven, and full kitchen supplies. The Great Room has 2 sitting areas, a gas fireplace, 50" flatscreen roku tv, a large dining table and a built in beverage area with wine cooler. Off of the Great Room there is a full bath and laundry room.
The second level, which is the main entrance from the parking area and street, has a large impressive entryway, and tucked away in the vestibule is an indoor sauna. Off the main hallway, there is a bedroom with French doors that open onto a Juliette balcony where you can enjoy your morning coffee and paper (or your evening martini) and just take in the gorgeous lake views. This bedroom has a queen bed, full closet, TV, night tables and its own bath with a 6 ft. bathtub. The den can be used for occasional guests as a bedroom because it has a twin sofa bed. It has a flatscreen TV and 3 bay windows under which is a charming window seat across the length of the room, facing the lake. It also has a closet and its own bath with a shower.
On the next level, there are 2 more bedrooms. The green room, sunny and delightful, has a great lake view with 3 windows facing the water, a queen bed, night table, flatscreen TV and a closet. It also has its own bathroom with a shower. Next is the spacious Master Bedroom with its beautiful cathedral ceiling, lovely lake breeze, two large glass slider windows that face the water and two additional windows. The room is furnished with a queen bed, end tables, flatscreen TV, divan and lots of closet space. The Master Bath has a 2- person shower with separate shower sprays. A hidden cedar closet is a surprise bonus. Enjoy!
One more level to go, and the stairway to heaven is here: the piece de resistance, of The Lakehouse. Here is a nanny suite or teen haven equipped with a mini-refrigerator, mini-dishwasher, wine-rack, bar sink, granite counter top, and many cabinets. Also, there are amenities, such as a coffee pot, toaster oven, dishes, etc. so you can just chill and be away from it all without having to go downstairs to the Great Room. This room can be used as a bedroom, artist studio, reading room, or just a great place to escape! There is a full size futon couch/bed, flatscreen TV, 2 closets, and a bathroom with a shower. The sliding glass and screen door open onto the outdoor rooftop deck with a multi-million dollar view from 4 stories up, so enjoy sipping your wine, light the gas fire pit and leave the world behind. Nirvana awaits.
The Lakehouse is built to be a unique and fun place. There are no formalities, so just relax, enjoy, be yourself (or be someone else if you choose) and have a great time. We are happy if you are happy enjoying our house.
We are fun people who believe in enjoying life and having a good time. We designed The Lakehouse to fit in with the landscape of the property, which is multi levels. The first half of the house was completed in 2006 and the second half was completed in 2013.. It has been a work in progress for many years on and off, as this was our second home until it became our first home, but now we are sharing it with you during part of the year. I am a Berkshire native, so I pretty much know my way around, and my husband has lived in The Berkshires for 35 years. He is a 5th degree black belt in karate, but I'm the boss (obviously, as I wrote this). Truthfully, we love life, travel, and people, and if you choose, we would love to meet you and show you around the house upon your arrival, so you will feel comfortable and at home.
Margie Shulman purchased this house in 2013
Why not this property? Lake property is soooo valuable and hard to come by, so to speak. Laurel Lake is not a really large lake, but is a lake that attracts fishermen, sailboaters and kayakers. There are a few motor boats, but mostly pontoons, canoes, kayaks, etc. Because of the fantastic location on Rt. 20, it is so easy and convenient to drive anywhere. Just drive out of your parking spot, and you are on your way. It is not a great property for animals (sorry, but NO PETS, although we love them, but allergies are terrible) or toddlers, as it is on a main road and also has little room for playing outside. The Lakehouse may not be a good choice for someone who is challenged with stairs, as there are multi levels (unless he or she chooses a lower bedroom). The house has a western view with the most beautiful sunsets imaginable and also the most glowing full moons that glimmer at night and reflect off the water. Heavenly and really indescribable! There is always a lake breeze and all the rooms have ceiling fans and if needed, air conditioners are available. If there is a cool night, turn on the electric heater in your bedroom and snuggle up.The Lakehouse has incredible Icylene insulation and outside noises are hardly noticeable.
If you love views, water, hot tubs, saunas, eating, drinking, sunning, culture, mountains, reading, relaxation, and more, then you will love The Lakehouse and the Berkshires. If you want to 'dress down' for dinner at home, walk barefoot, and do whatever the heck you want, when you want, then spend some time at The Lakehouse. It's waiting for you!
We had a wonderful time at the lakehouse! 8 of us (two families of 4) were incredibly comfortable at this beautiful spot. House is spotless, well-maintained, well-stocked - everything from towels to fishing gear to anything we needed for food prep - including a well-stocked pantry. The owners even had goodies waiting for us upon our arrival, and any question we had was either covered in their info booklet, or was immediately answered. We alternated between sauna, lake and hot tub - how perfect!! Only minutes to Tanglewood, Shake & Co, and any other Berkshire retreat. Perfect! We'll be back!!
My family, which consisted of my husband, myself, my parents and our 2 children ages 8 and 5 had a wonderful week in the Berkshires thanks to this amazing property. The owners could not have been any more gracious. The house is immaculate, extremely well stocked with everything you need from the kitchen to bathroom. It is perfect for a large group. The amenities are all at arms length in the backyard! The kids loved lake life. The slide and the boat were the highlights. The only complaint was the house is on a very busy main road with no sidewalk. We were very hesitant to take any walks. The location is perfect to every main attraction in the Berkshires.
The Lake House is sheer perfection. The setting is magnificent. Close to everything and oh those sunsets. Margie and Frank made sure our every need was met. The kitchen is fully stocked, as well as the bathrooms and laundry room.
We spent a spectacular 2 weeks with 4 adults and 5 kids ranging in age from 11 to 18. Everyone had a blast. The kids explored every inch of beautiful Laurel Lake. We enjoyed so many activities that the Berkshires has to offer. Everything was just a short car ride away.
Quite honestly. The best vrbo experience we ever had. Don't hesitate. Book the Lake House you will be thrilled.
The best equipped rental my group of friends have ever rented.
The owners were helpful and attentive to our suggestions and needs.
The home was lovely and bright...with many different bedrooms & bathrooms.[all look over the lake.] Which, in Aug was the most perfect swimming temperature. The kayaks were right at the deck and easy to use.
The area had so many attractions, good restaurants, museums and gardens to visit...even when the weather was cool we had many things to to choose from.
Every summer we have a family reunion and rent a large house - this one suited us perfectly. Really nicely decorated and outfitted. Nice bedrooms, each with private baths, big kitchen and great room, and great outdoor space for relaxing and meals on the lake. Lake is fantastic for swimming, kayaking and boating. We spent literally hours in the water. The only dowside is the house is on a busy road, but we soon forgot that as all views are of the lake. Proximity to charming towns of Lenox and Lee, good restaurants and activities (theater, music, Tanglewood). Owners are gracious and helpful. This house gets rave reviews from our family.
Our families rent a house every year together and after 30 min at the house the two eight year old cousins after being on the kayaks, down the water slide and swimming popped their heads up just long enough to say "best house ever"
The parents enjoyed the house as well - from a stocked kitchen - a wonderful large BBQ and large refrigerator and freezer we ending up eating out only once. With ample activities around it was always nice to be able to come back and hang out with a drink on the porch overlooking the lake and to be able to say to the kids - just jump in the lake if they were looking for something to do.
Every room has a tv as well as a bathroom.. but with so much to do NONE of the tvs were ever turned on in a week.
This is a multi-level house - so those who have issues with stairs take note. It is nice that they have a washer and dryer both on level 1 and level 3.
This property is the best location for everything in the Berkshires; two miles off the MA Turnpike, conveniently located on Rt. 20. The following are all a 5-15 minute drive: Cranwell Golf Resort & Spa (also home to a great pub), Canyon Ranch Spa (rated one of the best in the world), Tanglewood Music Festival (summer home of the Boston Symphony and a must visit), Shakespeare & Co. (excellent performances), the Prime Outlets in Lee (everyone loves a bargain, and only 2 miles away), Berkshire Theater Festival, the Barrington Stage Co., the Colonial Theater (all professional and wonderful theaters), Kripalu Yoga Center (beautiful and so calming there)., Edith Wharton's the Mount, Naumkeag, Chesterfield, (historical old cottages of the once rich and famous), Stockbridge, with the Norman Rockwell Museum and the Red Lion Inn & Country Curtains (a must visit), Gt. Barrington, sometimes referred to as mini NY with its shops and restaurants, the Berkshire Museum, Pittsfield (great hands-on for kids and wonderful foreign movies shown at their Little Cinema), Berkshire Medical Center (terrific emergency room that, hopefully, you will never visit), the Berkshire Athenaeum, which has branches in all the surrounding towns, including Lenox and Lee. Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival (a must see with wonderful performances and often offers free workshops), the Appalachian Trail, and so much more hiking and biking, including many state forests that are easily accessible. Within a half hour drive is the Berkshire Mall and Mt. Greylock, filled with hiking trails. Another 15 minutes beyond that is Williamstown with Williams College, the Clark Art Museum, the Williams College Museum (this is a definite must visit because the campus is so gorgeous and the museums are the best). Don't forget the Williamstown Theater Festival with great perfomances throughout the summer. North Adams and MASS MoCA Museum of Modern Art are a 10 minute drive from Williamstown. There are so many wonderful fun and cultural activities in the Berkshires that it is hard to include everything. We will be happy to give more explicit suggestions and also recommend restaurants. The dining is amazing in the Berkshires with so many diverse choices. Just driving around the Berkshires and enjoying the mountains, lakes, rivers, and foliage is a great way to spend the day. You never know what you may find hidden in some of the hill towns. Most likely, you will discover an unbelievable place to eat and an antique barn filled with treasures!
