Bargain for a big group But needs some TLC

  • 4 of 5

Nice large home with room to spread out. Well kept safe looking neighborhood. Big kitchen. Says it is sleeps 14 and we had 9. There were only 2 teaspoons and not enough plates. Dishwasher worked but is missing the soap dispenser cover. Fry pans to make eggs were pretty sad. Overall it looked clean. Carpet is new. Now the not so good..... Shower curtain was so moldy the mold was eating through it. Master bath shower grout is black with mold. Small bathroom sink ran super slow. Tub shower wouldn't drain until I dug the hairball out of it. Silk plants are really dirty. Would NOT recommend for older people. The stairs to the bedrooms are steep, wood and take a sharp turn. Probably the worst part was NO Air conditioning and the trade winds were not blowing. We shut the house up every day as requested when we left and came back to a sauna that didn't cool off until late. Bedrooms all have ceiling fans. Gecko lizards (they say are good luck) visit inside the house daily. Pretty cute.

Beautiful, Spacious Home

  • 5 of 5

Very beautiful home! It fit my family and my sister's family with room to spare. There were kids toys, beach toys, and snorkeling gear stored in the closet! The beds were comfortable and the house was very clean. It was perfect for us! The location was nice-near a market, close to the village which has many restaurants and stores. My husband accidentally locked himself out and someone was there within 10 minutes to let him back in. My only recommendation for the owner is to get another trash can outside. There was 8 of us staying 6 nights and the trash can outside was filled very quickly so we started putting garbage on the side of it. Everything else was perfect!

Huge, comfortable hale, a home away from home

  • 5 of 5

Sarah's rental was amazing! The photos are accurate, but you don't realize scale until you actually walk in. The kitchen was huge! The dining table looks small in the photos but could've seated 6 comfortably (although there were only 4 chairs).

Typically when we travel it's just my boyfriend and I. This time we took 3 friends with us. There were 5 bedrooms in various configurations: 1 with a king bed, 1 with a queen, 1 with a queen and a double, 2 with 2 twins each, and the game room with the sofa that opens into a double. This was great since of the five of us, we had only 1 couple. It was nice for everyone to have their own space without having to share a bed. The house can sleep 14 if you used all the bed space, but I'd say with 3 toilets and 2 showers, plus the living spaces, it would be perfect for somewhere closer to 10.

Everything was provided: lots of towels, dishes, even beach chairs and coolers. I would've appreciated better cooking equipment (the pots and pans have clearly seen a lot of use and are warped/no longer nonstick) but that's pretty minor. Sarah or previous guests have left spices, cooking oil, rice, sugar, and all kinds of other pantry items, so most of what you'll need to cook is already there.

It was also nice to have a washer and dryer. We used them on our last night so we didn't have to carry wet swimsuits in our luggage.

The only other thing I would mention is that it takes about a half hour to get out of Waikoloa. So if you're looking to go to Volcanoes or the black sand beach at Punalu'u, this area may not be the best as you'll do a lot of driving. But there are lots of great sights nearby-- A Bay, Makalawena, the Waikoloa petroglyph fields... even downtown Kailua isn't that far.

Sarah left very clear instructions and I didn't have to reach out during my stay except to tell her we were checking out. Her place is definitely a perfect choice for traveling with a larger group. We were sad to leave!
