About Serena and Al Mirabella

My wife and I came back to the panhandle of Florida after I retired from the Marine Corps. We wanted our children to grow up in this pristine part of Old Florida. We live in historic Apalachicola, just a short commute from Indian Pass. We call it our 'happy place'. We are active in the community and feel like our life is all we hoped it would be.

Al & Serena Mirabella

Serena and Al Mirabella purchased this cottage in 1986

Why Serena and Al Mirabella chose Port St. Joe

The house 'Alfie's Place' was my parent's beach cottage. It was my father's pride and joy. He has left it to our safe keeping. It is close to the beach(just a block and a half) for fishing, swimming, boating and sunning. An advantage to having owners less than a half hour away is that we are close at hand and take active participation in it's upkeep.

What makes this cottage unique

Visitors can feel like they are in a tree house. Mornings on the screened porch with a cup of coffee, listening to the birds and hearing the waves from the gulf calm the spirit. Take a stroll on the beach at sunset after having a meal of your catch of the day finishes off a perfect day.

Alfies is a wonderful old beach house

  • 4 of 5

We've been to Indian Pass 6 times. You should assume we love it. No matter where you stay there you can't get far from the beach. We have done 3 different VRBOs, all three were older homes that had served as residences. None are fancy in a commercial sense -- all a bit lived in. But all were very comfortable -- they are like being at home. We especially liked the kitchen at Alfies. It had all the equipment we needed; we like to buy fresh seafood and prepare it at home. We only ate out once during our week, but there are many good restaurants in Port St Joe, Cape San Blas and Apalachicola, not to mention the famous and historical Raw (Oyster) Bar at the entrance to Indian Pass. My wife, Wilson (our standard Poodle) and I would certainly rent this property again.

great location and fun for the whole family

  • 5 of 5

we had the best week! everything was here and ready for use. there was ample seating and sleeping room throughout the house and the screened in porch was a huge plus for our 3 little ones. we were a short walk to the beautiful secluded beach where we fished and played. the owners were so very easy to work with and i cant thank them enough for their home and their generosity.

Great House, Great Location- INCREDIBLE GETAWAY!

  • 4 of 5

My family of 5 plus 2 fur kids had a fabulous stay at Alfie's Place. When we first arrived, I'm not going to lie, the mosquitoes gave us quiet the "not-so-welcoming" welcoming party! It was bad...however the area had been in a drought and had just received 5 inches of rain. We stocked up on bug repellent and actually fogged the carport area and front that helped to control the blood suckers the rest of the week. We had ZERO cellular service at the house., but once we informed our family we had arrived safely, it was nice to be unplugged! Once we unpacked the car and settled in, we LOVED the house. The kitchen was well stocked and the house was nice and clean. The bathrooms could use some dating...but I'm not at the beach for luxury no complaints here! It was a nice walk out to the beach, but bring a wagon or rent a golf cart, if you are like us and take everything except the kitchen sink to the beach for the day! We spend 3 full days on the uncrowned beach and had a blast. We brought our kayaks with us and there is a nice launch across the street into the bay. My husband and I actually spend some time kayaking with several dolphins which was INCREDIBLE! Or family also kayaked over to St Vincent Wildlife Refuge one morning and witnessed hundreds, if not thousands, of Pelicans hanging out on the beach...once again INCREDIBLE! Another fun activity was renting a Pontoon boat for the day in Port St Joe to shark fishing and snorkel at our own leisure...Sea Urchins, clams, sharks, fish, and sand dollars as large as an adult's hand...and yet again INCREDIBLE! We caught alot of fish out at the boat ramp just a short drive out Indian Pass Rd. We aren't into keeping and cooking the fish, but if we were, the house has a fish cleaning station in the back. This was such a fun trip for us and our kids!!

Glenn, the property manager, was very responsive and the few full time residents we met on the street were very nice. We will consider staying at Alfie's Place in the future.
