If you are looking for a perfect vacation away from the crowds and cold climates, come to Casa Catalina at the Alamar Resort in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, located 15 kilometers north of the Puerto Vallarta airport on the north shore of Banderas Bay. Alamar’s extensive amenities include the finest private beach complex on the Bay, a private jungle complex with playground and palapa, multiple common area heated pools, two jacuzzis, gym and 24 hour security service. This resort is so new and undiscovered, you are guaranteed of getting your own umbrella beach chair.

Casa Catalina’s open airy design allows spectacular views of Banderas Bay, Puerto Vallarta and the Sierra Madre mountains in the background from each bedroom, kitchen, and living area. Unlike the condos in the main tower, Casa Catalina shares no common walls with other units, allowing windows on all sides and quiet surroundings. Two large bedrooms with king-sized beds, a den/TV room with double-sized futon and two large bathrooms provide accommodations for five to seven guests. The beds include top of the line pillow top Serta mattresses and high quality linens. Queen and twin aerobeds are also available. The contemporary kitchen is fully equipped and includes refrigerator, stove, coffee maker, microwave and toaster oven. Inside laundry includes full-size front loading washing and dryer. All windows have custom designed shades. Each bedroom and den has its own air conditioner (mini-split) with remote control and the living area has central air. Two spacious terraces with patio furniture are located off the living area and master bedroom. Casa Catalina’s accommodations are perfect for families or two couples.

Casa Catalina’s location not only provides a spectacular view (yes, you can see whales plying the waters of the Bay), but is also walking distance to many restaurants, clubs and the new Nayarit Marina in La Cruz. La Cruz is a quaint fishing village, located about 15 kilometers north of the Puerto Vallarta airport, which has become a favorite destination of boaters from all over the world. You will find a friendly Huichol Indian art gallery that supports indigenous weaving, a gourmet German restaurant that serves European cuisine and features live flamenco guitar music, an American bar/restaurant with live American music and local charity events, plus a wide variety of local restaurants and streets stands that provide an excellent selection of seafood, salads, tacos, and quesadillas and live entertainment. La Cruz is surrounded by beautiful beaches like Destiladeras, Punta de Mita, Careyeros and La Cruz’s own beach, La Manzanilla. La Manzanilla is located close to Casa Catalina and is widely known by the locals for its calm waters and delicious food at its palapa beach restaurants. The fish market in the La Cruz Marina offers fresh mahi mahi, shrimp, yellowtail, ahi tuna and other seafood delicacies on a daily basis at about half the price found elsewhere. Side trip activities around the Bay are numerous. You can golf, you can surf, you can sail, you can go deep sea fishing, you can snorkel or dive and you can visit Sayulita, Punta de Mita or the many shops in Puerto Vallarta’s malecon.

Very inexpensive transportation is available on buses or vans with a bus stop located at the Alamar development. Included in the rental is use of our Mazda CX-9 SUV which seats 7 passengers and has a private underground parking space steps away from the front door. Shopping for those who do their own cooking can be found at the numerous local tiendas and at large grocery stores (Mega, Chedraui, and Walmart) located 10 kilometers away. There is a Costco store nearby in Puerto Vallarta as well. Concierge and gourmet services are available.

About Lee Pryor and Cathy Sweet

We love sailing and spending time under the sun. Both of us have professional careers in finance. We are always seeking sound financial investments and believe we found one here at Alamar.

Lee Pryor and Cathy Sweet purchased this villa in 2013

Why Lee Pryor and Cathy Sweet chose La Cruz de Huanacaxtle

We discovered the town of La Cruz during our extended cruise to Mexico aboard our sailboat. The charm of La Cruz and the natural beauty of Banderas Bay captured our hearts. With all the boating activities associated with the La Cruz Marina and surrounding area, we knew we wanted to spend more time here. Our family also fell under La Cruz's spell. We purchased Amura #4 at the Alamar Resort in April 2013 and look forward to eventually making it our retirement villa.

What makes this villa unique

Alamar's extraordinary architecture, exquisite landscaping, heated pools, kids' playgrounds and other top tier amenities make this rental the perfect vacation retreat for both families and multiple couples. La Cruz offers great entertainment venues as well as a diverse selection of restaurants. Puerto Vallarta is only a 30 minute drive from La Cruz.

Our reasonable rates include the moderate use of a newer Mazda CX-9 7-passenger SUV. 400 km per week is the allowed amount, which is sufficient to do shopping and exploring of various points of interest in the State of Nayarit

Kids Review Casa Catalina!

  • 5 of 5

Review by Margaux, age 10

I really like the jungle pool and the beach club. Mexico is my favorite place to go on vacation. I love Tacos on the Street they have the best tacos ever. We went to Vallarta adventure. We went to Las Caletas. It was awesome.

For me the condo is very calming. I love sitting on the deck because it is very warm. I sleep so well there I love it. I like to going to the Beach Club. There are cabanas and a huge pool. One day we stayed at the pool all day. You can go down to the beach from the pool.

I love Mexico cause you can go to the market. I like shopping and eating. On Sundays you can go to the farmers market. They have super cool things. I got a ring and a really nice blanket.

Review by Jade, age 9

My Grandpa and Oma own this condo. It's awesome! You can go to the Jungle Pool. Here are the directions: go to the elevator, go to level 1 (the condo is on -2), go left when your on level 1 and you'll see a path, follow the path to the pool. You'll have a awesome view of the ocean from the pool.

You'll have lots of adventures in Mexico. I went to a remote beach and went zip-lining. I road a donkey and monkeys jumped on my head. The beach is called Las Caletas.

Other adventures are shopping, finding shells, going to beaches. I love seeing iguanas, snakes, and, dolphins.

The condo has a warm and happy feel about it. The view from the deck is amazing. The Bay is beautiful. I sleep great here. The couches are comfy.

Thanks for reading this note.

Skylar - 5 years old (3rd trip to Amura 4)

We stayed in Amura 4. I like the soft beds. The view of the Bay is wonderful. The view is even better when I sit and enjoy a smoothie with fresh fruit from the produce market across the street. The couches are also nice for watching videos after a long day at the pool. I liked seeing the sailboats cruising across the bay and the harbor. The big showers are like a whole room at my house.

I like the pretty fans that we buy at the Mercado in Buscerias. My dad also bought me a pretty silver bracelet with purple flowers.

At the Farmers Market on Sundays in La Cruz there's delicious sweet fresh squeezed orange juice. It's my favorite juice. I love seeing the crabs walk on the rocks.

I like the beach - all of the beaches. I love hunting for shells. We play in the sand and make sand castles. My mom and I made flowers in the sand.

Amazing Stay at Casa Catalina

  • 5 of 5

This was my first time here in La Cruz and staying at Casa Catalina was a cherry on top! It completely made my trip being able to be so close to both the beach and the pools. Awesome views and super clean. Also having access to the Jeep is perfect. We were able to get to all the incredible food and sights this way. I highly recommend staying here and will definitely be coming back!

Great place

  • 5 of 5

a very comfortable place to stay away from home. Lee is truly remarkable people. extremely accommodating with your needs and directing you to where and what you need to find. a great place for vacation if you are looking to unwind and kick your feet up instead of living out of a suitcase. the only thing gripe I have is that it isn't close enough to the city. however, the Jeep is very useful.

This is one of our favorite trips! The casa Catalina is really nice, FANTASTIC views, Clean, well equipped and comfortable. There are lots of fun things to do in la Cruz. Great food! We recommend the fresh vegetable market across the street from the condos. The pools are really nice, both the beach club and the jungle club. Highly recommend this place to stay!

Amazing view of ocean!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great property in a quiet area with 2 beautiful pools to access and a great view of the ocean. There was 2 couples on this trip and the property was very suitable for 4 people. It was our first time renting VRBO and it exceeded our expectations. Andres was wonderful and very helpful. We were picked up at the airport, he waited while we got our groceries and then delivered us to the property. He also found us wandering around trying to find the right bus, loaded us up and helped us to catch the correct bus to Sayulita. It is a short walk to the beach and the climb back up is a bit of a hill but it was a great trip and would recommend this property.

Owner's Response: Debbie, Thank you for writing this review. I am glad that your adventure exceeded your expectations. Andres is spreading a rumor that you caught a nice sailfish. Nice going! They are exciting to catch. Oh yes, the hill back up to Casa Catalina. For myself I depend on the Jeep to get me back up from the beach. Cathy and I at 73 found it a necessity to offer transportation. Anyway, the climb is why we have such a panaramic view of the ocean waters of Banderas Bay. Thanks again.

5 Stars Says It All!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Cathy and Lee for being the host/ess with the mostess. We traveled from Carlsbad, CA through the Cross Border Xpress which was so easy and convenient. My first visit to your Casa Catalina property was too much fun! Your unobstructed views overlooking Banderas Bay and harbor were incredible - just 30 minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Puerto Vallarta. And those sunrises and sunsets with our favorite (alcoholic :) beverages on the balcony = wow! The condo has all the modern conveniences including washer, dryer, grill, kitchen essentials and absolutely charming Mexican decor. The bedrooms are spacious with huge breezy windows and air conditioning too. There are many sightseeing adventures to choose from and/or there's plenty of time to relax on the property's infinity pool or the pool/bar at the Alamar Beach Club located on beach front property. An extremely helpful extra added benefit is a car that's included with the condo. Just minutes away among the charming cobblestone city streets we enjoyed the farmers market, fish market, local nightclubs and restaurants. I highly recommend a getaway to Casa Catalina!
